    Another great journey through a WC! It was an incredible one, I still remember the whole hype : Panini albums filled out days before the tournament, news of an Asian nation talking about taking a collective break during the cup, Brazilians making an improvised statue of Ronaldinho (only to burn it down after the quarterfinal loss)...those were the days... Btw, Grosso's tears, cheeky Ronaldo's wink, and unfortunately brutal Zidan's headbut all marked this tournament

    I am probably biased as an Italian, but I always found it unfair how, when other World Cup wins are discussed, the topic is "that time (team) won the World Cup", but it seems like 2006 is "that time Zidane lost the World Cup". There's always this vibe that, when Italy wins something, either there's a scandal behind it, or it is treated as if it was the opponent's bad luck. PS: it's surprisingly refreshing to hear "Calciopoli" pronounced the way it should, every once in a while

    • @TheSportsFiles-mm1kg
      @TheSportsFiles-mm1kg 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I certainly don't mean for it to come across as Italy didn't deserve to win. Italy was better than France through the tournament. France was really poor in the group stages. I do highlight the Zidane headbutt, but that's pretty much because it is the moment that most fans think of when talking about 2006 final. I actually prefer the Grosso goal and celebration personally. Also, in terms of Italy's world cup wins, being opponents bad luck. This isn't me trying to discredit your wins but actually emphasising how good you guys are when your back is against the walls. The 82 and 06 wins show to me how strong you guys are when you develop that we will show them mentality when little is expected of you. Same with the Euros win in England recently.

    • @prometheustv6558
      @prometheustv6558 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think it’s because Italy in recent history never had a dominant team, at least not since the 30s. Italy won the World Cup in 82 and then didn’t win anything until winning it in 06. And then in the last 4 world cups they haven’t gotten past the group stage. Despite winning the euros in 2021.

I think we deserved it, considering we could have won a lot more in the previous years? :) In order for us to finally win a WC ..... we had to conceed 0 goals throughout all tournament from active play. Only conceeding from a PK and from an own goal ..... If you look at Euro 2020 .... we still had Belgium, Spain and England (not exactly an easy run). I'd say we underachieved if anything :)

    Zidane had been a very rough player all along, with 14 reds as an offensive midfielder. In case you didn't know, he's also a record holder for the most cards in World Cup finals, 2 reds and 4 yellows. He has skills, but there are many more players much greater than him. Henry is another who deserves a mention. He may not have been the lead in the glorious days of that era of France, but for me, he is at least far better than a certain M'bappe who just has speed and strength as his main skills. At least Henry is more of a good all rounder compared to him. The 2006 Brazil by the way, had been described as the greatest since 1982, but that is something I totally disagreed with, especially when the left and right backs are 34 and 36 years old respectively and the coach tried to play two strikers and two offensive midfielders, leaving the flanks for the aged Carlos and Cafu. They would have been different had Belletti been picked as first choice and had they strengthen the midfield with a peak Gilberto Silva (alongside Emerson) while pushing Ze Roberto or Juninho to the right wing. But anyway that's just a moot. This Italy was just impressive that they won it with penalty (which they had been so afraid of doing since 1990). The only blemish is Maldini retiring just one WC ago, when he still has the gas to win another Champions League just a year later with pretty much a combination of the 2002 and 2006 World Cup winning teams.

      Yeah, Zidane had an angry side to him. It really contradicted his style of football, which was so beautiful. Henry is a fantastic player. One of my favourites. I agree on this Brazil side. On paper the 2006 team was full of stars. But multiple were past their prime. Cafu and Carlos for sure. Ronaldo as well. Even Adriano wasn't at his best. I feel for Maldini. He arrived too late for 1982 and left too early for 2006.

    Thank you for sharing, it was my second World Cup overall, the first where I could watch my national team (Poland). Brazil was insane back in those times, most of their players deserved without a question winning this title, the 3 R's especially. Great video!

      Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, this Brazil team was excellent. They remain the only team to win 7 games in a world cup campaign.

    A Team so good they were lead by 3 ballon d’Or level players and even had a 4th in a young Ricardo Kaka warming the bench.

    You mentioned in the video that Brazil won all the qualifiers and in fact in doing so, they became and remains the only team that won all its qualifying and finals games within 90 mins. The closest that any team has come to doing so again was Netherlands in 2010 when they fell at the final hurdle.

    Great video! That Korea Italy referee was ridiculous! Didn't pay attention to the fact many refs were awful in this tournament! Thank you!
