Fontaine scoring 13 goals in one world cup is absolutely insane.

The only way I see that record ever being broken is if the number of games in a tournament really increases.

Crazy how France won the World Cup golden boot again in 2022. Both times they lost to the South American World Cup champion of that tournament

@@TheSportsFiles-mm1kgI think it could be broken in the next World Cup model, but a select group of teams will have to be selected to break this record.

Pelé scored 6 goals in 4 world cup games in the 1958 world cup.... All 4 games being in the knockout stage of the tournament, which is arguably the hardest series of games to play in, with it being on the world cup stage aswell..... Legendary!! And a 17 year old Pelé was already one of the key players in the Brazil squad!... 👏🇧🇷🔟💯🤙🙌✌️😱😊

3 of the 4 games were in the knock-out round.

How Wales qualified for the World Cup is a story in itself, as it is one the oddest stories of how a country could represent three continents. Also if you look when they played their games, and who their manager was at the time, then it is a quirk of fate considering what happened the same week Wales qualified for the World Cup Finals.

You would like to elaborate? Because I don't know the crazy stories about Wales' qualification.

@@SamWinchester000 Have a look at the Wikipedia page on why it ended up being Wales v Israel for a place in the 1958 Finals - 1958 FIFA World Cup qualification (AFC/CAF-UEFA play-off).
Both games took place on the same days that Manchester United v Red Star Belgrade matches in the Quarter-Finals of the European Cup, and Jimmy Murphy was not only Assistant Manager of Manchester United, but the Manager of Wales at that time. Therefore because Jimmy Murphy was in Cardiff on Wednesday 5th February 1958, he didn't end up travelling to Belgrade that week with United, and due to Wales being chosen to play Israel, it ended up not being part of the Munich Air Crash, and ended up being Caretaker Manager for the rest of that season.
As an aside, two people who were killed in the crash were Donny Davies (An Old International) of the then Manchester Guardian and Henry Rose of The Daily Express, who as the Senior Football Correspondents bumped two people who were originally supposed to go. For The Manchester Guardian it was John Arlott (Silchester) who was better known as a Cricket Journalist and Broadcaster, and for The Daily Express Tony Stratton-Smith who later founded Charisma Records. in 1982 John Arlott released an album called John Arlott Talks Cricket on Charisma Records.
If both had been killed in the disaster, then John Arlott might have not played a part in South Africa's Sporting Isolation because of Apartheid, as in 1960 he helped Basil D'Oliveria come to England to play initially in Club Cricket, then County and eventually International Cricket. With Tony Stratton-Smith then where would have artists/bands like Genesis, Van Der Graaf Generator, Monty Python and Lindisfarne would have gone.

It’s honestly so interesting to think about the fact that for a 5 minute time period in history Sweden surly thought they were gonna win the World Cup. It’s interesting to think of a nation outside the 8 World Cup champions having being among them had they won it back then. Although Looks like Sweden became the 3rd ever nation after Czechoslovakia and Hungary to reach the World Cup final and to this day still never win it. Congrats to Sweden for the amazing World Cup run back then they had.

Yeah it was a really good run by Sweden. Knocking out Germany along the way too.

Wow I never knew/thought about the fact that Brazil 1958 World Cup win was the only time South America won it in Europe.

Yeah it is surprising considering Brazil and Argentina have won 8 World Cups between them.

Also some other fun facts about Pelé and those Brazilian teams in 58' 62' 70' is that; -Brazil is one of only two nations in wc history who won back to back world cups , in 1934 and 1938 for Italy and 1958 and 1962 for Brazil.
    - Brazil in 1970 is the only world Cup winning team to win all their games in qualification and in-tournament games/ games in the tournament itself.
-i also believe 1958 Brazil was one of if not the first world cup teams to have a multicultural group which was pretty big at the time. Also 1958 wc was when Brazil won their first world cup in history and they had the biggest winning margin in a world cup final, winning 5-2 against Sweden in the 1958 world cup final
-pelé scored or assisted a goal in every world cup game he played a full game , except the games he got injured in.
    - Pele also had 8 assist in his world cup career, tied with Maradona, Messi etc all time. Including, i believe, 5 assists in the 1970 world cup edition.
    - pelés goal record in the world cup was 12 goals and 8 assists in 14 games. I also saw a youtube channel named after peles full name, Edson arantes do nascimento , which showed a video where Pele in terms of chances created per games was among the highest since 1966 and also in terms of how many minutes it took before each chance Pele created.
    🇧🇷🤙👏🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

      Wasn't it 6 assists in 70?
Which is also one of his records for most assists in a World Cup edition according to FIFA.
If I'm not mistaken, he has 10 assists in World Cups, 3 in 58, 1 in 62 and 6 in 70, depending on the criteria the minimum is 9.

Unfortunately, in an interview before his death in 2000, he said this mistake gave him a 50-year sentence. Despite having a very good career, he was always known for this. It's a real shame he was made a scapegoat for 1950.
