@@TheSportsFiles-mm1kg yeah he couldn’t dribble like he used to but being a striker that was very prolific he still had the poachers instinct and he had two players beside him who had lots of flair.
Good video yet again. However I think Germany got way less credit than they deserve. Until the Final, Germany scored 14 goals while Oliver Kahn conceded only once. Their opening game was one of the biggest wins ever in a World Cup when they beat Saudi Arabia 8:0. Oliver Kahn literally carried the team almost alone to the finals. Then there's also the story of Turkey. They managed to finally qualify again after 46 years and reached the 3rd place while also scoring the fastest World Cup goal ever. What's also worth mentioning is that most major teams didn't make it far: The Dutch didn't qualify, Argentina exited after the group stage, reigning World and Euro Champs France completely embarrassed themselves.
@jandrixcubal8095 Right, the Dutch had an amazing team, but Roy Keane denied them the chance to embarrass themselves yet again in the big stage. Germany scored 14 but 8 against Saudi Arabia, so just 6 in the 5 next games, they had a good team but pretty lackluster performances. Ballack was their engine so without him they had no chance in the final.
But I do remember waking up that first morning (12 hour difference games from where I was) and hearing my friend say "Klose already scored 3!!" And my reaction being, who??
@@Chadner The German team really wasn't good. They qualified only through the playoffs and 4 major players were out due to injuries. Nowotny and Wörns were the best defenders, but fell out. Scholl and Deisler were good up front but couldn't participate either. Sure, Klose was a saviour up front and Ballack was a great leader in the field, but they couldn't carry everything.
Yeah, I honestly considered talking about Germany as well. But it was difficult to fit Germany in whilst talking about Brazil and Ronaldo's journey plus all of the officiating mistakes. I did mention that it was Kahn only mistake of the tournament plus he won the golden ball.
Thank you for sharing, it was my second World Cup overall, the first where I could watch my national team (Poland). Brazil was insane back in those times, most of their players deserved without a question winning this title, the 3 R's especially. Great video!
Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, this Brazil team was excellent. They remain the only team to win 7 games in a world cup campaign.
4:01, fyi, that's a different Luizão, this the CB that played for Cruzeiro and Benfica, the one from 2002 who got us the penalty was the striker who played for Corinthians, Palmeiras and Hertha Berlin,
@@TheSportsFiles-mm1kg Sure, and it's even more understandable if you realize that those two players played at roughly the same era and in the same league. It always baffled me how Brazilian players would choose such common names in a sport where individual recognition means everything.
2002 Brazil 🇧🇷 squad was great even though R9 was a shell of himself. Rivaldo is underrated, Roberto Carlos and Cafu were the best defensive unit since Djalma and Nilton Santos.
The first WC in Asia and the last one won by a non-European side (until 2022 that is). Thanks again for a great memory refresher! It's a pity how obviously bad refereeing stole the show... it was so biased towards S.Korea, who ended up 4th - Turkey destroyed their dreams of a medal in the end. A bravura of a legend (O.Kahn) and his practical farewell to the 1st team (he played only one match as a starter in 2006), and a great intro to the Germany's omnipresence in the top 3, peaking in 2014. But that's still far away ;) Keep up the good work!
Curious facts: Every time Brazil faced England in a World Cup they became champions. Every time Turkey classified to a World Cup they faced the eventual champions twice. Germany in 1954 (a group stage match and a replay to determined which country will go through to quarter finals) and Brazil in 2002 (group stage and semi finals).
@@TheSportsFiles-mm1kg Yup. England brings Brazil luck. Similarly, Croatia brings France luck since every time they faced France won the World Cup. It the refereing was fair in Qatar I'm sure Croatia would have went through to the final on penalty shootout.
Also important to mention that Kleberson wasn't the first team choice. It was only after his performance against Belgium that he won his spot. Juninho was the original starter (not the Pernambucano though hehee - another example of two classic players, that even played together in the same team, with the same stupid nickname haha - Juninho is even dumber because it means the little junior, so it is the most random name possible hahaha...
@TheSportsFiles-mm1kg The same. Also known as Juninho Paulista. He started the first games but lost ground to Kleberson who was more of a defensive mid, making it possible for Cafu and R.Carlos to play more freely.
in my opinion its TOO Brasil focused. That World cup stand out because KAHN brought Germany into the final which wasnt that good team but its not even mentioned here
its okay to be brasil focused but I dont like that other teams are completely out here. For example the referee decissions are mentioned but not what the people mostly remember here is that South Korea was the "bad guy" for lot of people. I can remember that whole ITALY AND SPAIN used to be for GERMANY against Korea because of their treatment bakc then.
While I agree that there was a lot more to tell, you have to realize that the title of the video is "how BRAZIL won the WC" he does a video like this for every wc and focuses most on the campaign of the winning team. Check out his other videos if you haven't.
What? Only 1.5k subs? You deserve waaay more! Keep it up, my dude, great videos!
Thanks much appreciated!
Ronaldo is truly an inspiration for someone who is failed in life and think he can't recover.
Absolutely. He missed 2 years of his career due to those knee injuries and to return with 8 goals, and a World Cup win is incredible.
@@TheSportsFiles-mm1kg couldn't agree more.
And his wicked haircut deserved the title by itself
R9 wasn’t the same player he was a few years earlier, but he managed to adapt to more of a poaching role and he still scored 8 goals.
Yes, absolutely. He was still a world-class finisher, but he was no longer as athletic after 2 years of serious knee injuries.

This is possibly the worst offiaciated world cup ever. I really feel sorry for Italy and Spain.
And USA.
And USA
Even Argentina too, who was marked as one of the favorites. If there were a round of 32 knockout stage, Argentina might have won the 2002 world cup.
@@jimmyyue238 Argentina was in a group of death. Totally different problem. It had nothing to do with bad officials.

Yes, the officiating was awful this tournament.
A Team so good they were lead by 3 ballon d’Or level players and even had a 4th in a young Ricardo Kaka warming the bench.
The World Cup has several moments of revenge. Italy and Spain were unfairly treated but they went on to win the next two World cups
The horrible officiating is why this World Cup cannot be considered an all-time classic
Yeah, it's really unfortunate because there were quite a few good moments and underdogs did really well.
