  • This is the story of the 1990 FIFA World Cup. It is one of the most dramatic World Cups ever. Germany and England would compete in an incredible Semi-Final. England had their best World Cup since 1966 but ended in Gazza's tears. It would also become known for Rijkaard's spitting incident.
This is the next video of a series focusing on telling the story of each FIFA World Cup. TheSportsFiles channel is all about telling great sporting narratives. What better way to start than to tell the story of the history of the FIFA World Cup. If you want to learn more, please hit that like, subscribe, and notification bell.

No problem for Dutch back then. They considered themselves as being very tolerant and despised discrimination and conservatism.
Therefore they considered it okay to single out every German as nazi and just spit on them.
In a very cool and calm way of course.
      Ironic, isn’t it?

Back in 1990 when i was following the WC games, i thought the Germany/Netherlands game was the most exciting match of the tournament. But it was only this past year when i decided to re-watch the England/Germany match....as it turned out, i fell in love with this particular match & realized that it was even better than the Germany/Netherlands match!
Both teams played a fabulous game & it could've been one or the other advancing thru to the final. Interestingly i lost interest in German football in 1990 mainly because KH Rummenigge was no longer a part of it.....but it would resurface again later on during the 2010 WC when i again fell in love with German football.

Let's be honest: the deciding penalty was not really a foul. That being said, there was a clear foul in the box shortly before that. The going theory is, the ref made a consolation decision.
Overall Argentina had no chance in the final, they only fouled and tried to make match ugly, could have had half a dozen red cards by today's standard. The ENG-GER match would have been a much more deserving final, with much more closely matched opponents.

The squad that reached the semi-finals in 1986 was now much more mature and balanced and reaching the semi-finals was certainly possible again. Germany was really too good in 1990, they defeated Holland, England and Argentina. Also Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia, some of the best teams of the 2nd tier, had no chance against Germany. Maybe the fact they played their first 5 games in Milano, on SanSiro (which is just 500km from Munich), the sixth was played in Turin, again in North, while England played most of their games south. The final against Argentina was played with 70,000 Italians shouting against Maradona. Everything was well aligned. The best thing Germany did, was defeating Yugoslavia 4-1 in the first game, as a comparison, other important teams scored 3 or 4 goals in all their games of the group stage. Brazil scored just 4 times in all tournament, Argentina scored 5 goals despite they reached final. And that was West Germany, adding the East later gave them no little progress in the following years.

first and foremost I would like to thank the creator for this content, but I think your miles off it. in my opinion, which I know don’t mean much the 1990 World Cup is about the rematch the two teams meeting in the finals. I like how you break down Germany’s run in the World Cup. But in my opinion, you missed the mark when you don’t talk about Argentina‘s trip to the World Cup final and how that win against Italy cost the greatest player ever Diego Armando Maradona everything. And not going into detail about the two Argentinian players that were carded and would miss the final. in my opinion, the yellow card controversy and subsequently rule change by FIFA was because of Claudio Caniggia missing the finals and part of the reason why the finals was so poor. in my opinion, the headline should read something. the rematch one star rising the other one fading. Germany went out to win the World Cup Jurgen Klansman two years later would lift the euros and the greatest player Diego Armando Maradona would soon serve multiple bands for his substance abuse problems, and never be Maradona again at the world stage

    • @TheSportsFiles-mm1kg

      Your opinion does matter.
However, I respectively disagree. Argentina was awful all through the tournament. They struggled past teams and only progressed through penalties. When most think of the 1990 world cup its about that England vs. Germany semi-final. England's route was far more interesting than Argentina's route. They scored a last second winner in extra time vs. Belgium, Cameroon gave them an all - mighty scare in the quarter finals, too. The final itself was awful and widely regarded the worst ever. Germany was just much better than Argentina that tournament.
The semi-final between Italy and Argentina was def an important occasion. If I spoke about any Argentina match apart from the final, it would have been that one. But I can't include everything from the World Cup in each video. I try and keep it around the 15ish minutes mark. I'm making this content outside of a full-time job.

you're crazy Argentina was awful though Maradona was injured by this time he was not in his prime anymore, why wasn't Batistuta considered a national player by this point I've no idea however Cannigia was out of the game for receiving a yellow card but even in the games before it Argentina barely scarped by and in the Final against Germany all they did was foul, and defend trying to get the game to penalties. It was an aweful match, very slow and boring. I remember watching the game at home with a lot of people from the neighborhood in my house, I was of course rooting for Argentina but they played horrible and without a doubt Germany deserved that WC since it was the strongest team of that WC by far. I remember watching that game and being bore out of my mind because of how Argentina decided to play it, very rough, and I remember being enthralled by Germany the whole tournament this was probably Germany's strongest show in all the WC's. Lucky that Argentina even made it to the finals
