Unpopular opinion but I liked the tuning of the 2000’s more. It’s probably cause that was the whistle I grew up hearing, or the fact the 765 sounds like it’s squealing each time they blow it

When I was child, I was so thrilled and awestruck when these locomotives passed by the Nickle Plate railroad crossing, next to NYC, with their diesel locomotive with the crossing signals and bells. No gates. Ya better stop. That's a stoplight. I miss those days. NYC & the NKP ran side by side through NE Ohio through Western New York!

One of my Christmas traditions is to listen to O. Winston Link's famous recording, "Christmas Eve in Rural Retreat". Nine years ago in 2014, the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society made their own Link inspired recording of the 765 at Christmastime. This video is heavily inspired by these two recordings.
