- "Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen."

I been able to see the 765 at least once every month during this years excursion season, and each month, her whistle, originally worn by NKP 700, has sounded different. I wondered if maybe FWRHS was trying to get the 80s-90s tuning back, but the last thing I expected was hearing that sound today. Here's me fanboying over 765's getting her 80-90s tuned whistle back. Being born after the 765's first excursion career ended, I never though I'd ever hear it for myself! This was a wonderful surprise!

765's whistle has her 90s tuning back, 611 is back on the mainline, 2926 hit the mainline for the first time. Man, railfans have been eating good these last few months.
You got that right!
And who could forget the return of Reading 2102 last year?
FWRHS said it’s had the same whistle since the 90s it’s just common wear and tear of it that caused the change
1225 is basically finished too. Tis a good year for steam
2102 is back, and remember we have Reading 2100 (its sister) coming back in the near future, along with UP 3985 and 5511!
0:23 Yes way, they have done it. 765s True voice has come back at long last. That much loved high shrill lives again!
With taking the time to get the sound right on the mark after a hour of fine tuning we finally are able to hear her real voice. Thanks to the guys for taking the time to get it right. "Whatever It Takes" Please enjoy....
I can only imagine the look on those lucky railfans' faces when they heard 765's whistle like that. I'd be screaming and unable to stop smiling if I heard that in person!
I can tell you, I had a big stupid grin on my face for the rest of the day😂.
@@railsandracing I don't blame you!
The real smile was the engine crew guys who got it tuned in correctly. We were beside ourselves. Glad to hear her voice is back and it's definitely showing by all the comments. Enjoy
@@jeffrayner6210 You bet! Did a great job!
Don't squeal you'll ruin the recordings! Wait till after the train has stopped and gone quiet for the cheers.
There's me in the brown jacket! I can't believe it either, that they got her 90s whistle back. It was an awesome day!
Finally, now 765's whistle just sounds like the 80s and 90s, originally wore by 700.
Паровозы- это живые памятники ушедшей эпохи, их надо беречь и сохранять😊❤
Wow great to have that tune whistle back after after almost 3 decades of absence
It’s interesting knowing that the whistle has been retuned a lot over the years. While it took me a while to understand why the do it I appreciate what they’re doing for their engine and many people who’ve come to see and ride behind her. Kudos to FWRHS and all their hard work over the years as they made of these things possible.
That's awesome! It sounds like that 765 has got it's voice back!
THOSE ABSOLUTE MAD LADS! THEY ACTUALLY DID IT!
It’s the same whistle it’s always had. The whistle had some work done to it during the 90’s rebuild. The steam has worn it and the whistle was turned a bit and now you get this somewhat more harsh sound.
True! It's still 700's whistle. I just didn't think it would ever sound this way again. It's crazy how many ways that this whistle can be tuned. One day, I might do a video on how many different tunings this one whistle has had over the years.
Edit:
I changed the title so that it doesn't imply that it's a different whistle.
@@railsandracing Take a look at some of Rizzoli Locomotive Works's videos about whistle tuning and whistle rebuilds. He rebuilt the whistle of Sierra #3, restoring the voice we all know from Back to the Future and many others.
@@renegadeoflife87 Yes! I've watched many of his videos over the years.
You hear that? That's the roar of the good ol' memories.
Man it is good to see zach hall the engineer and fireman in her . He was seen at the open house in July 29th 2023 in the cab ride there is a video
I love the sound of the whistle. But what I like, even more, is the sight of a working "Mars" light!
I’m a grown man and when I hear a train whistle I get excited like a little kid. Is something wrong with me 😂.
Hell yeah now that is the whistle sound we been looking for
Now thats a whistle!
HOLY SHIT LETS GOOOOOOOO!
HIGHBALL!!!

I bet those long-wheelbase steamers smoked switches-a-plenty, WW II era.
Well I’ll be. That is nostalgic, to hear that true high pitch ring in her voice again and in the modern day, man that takes me back to her excursions with the new river train. All she needs now is that Hancock 3 chime and it’ll be like the days when 765 and 1225 were together in 1991.
I think the 1225 wore that 3 chime during the 2019 North Pole Express trips. It was originally worn by a C&O Hudson. I'm not sure if it was the same whistle or not.
Absolutely beautiful
It sure is! I'm still geeking out!
The 2009 whistle is back!!!
I wonder if the reason why it sounded wack the past couple months was because they were trying to tweak it. Who knows maybe they'll tweak it even more to get that cracked sound to it. To me it really sounds like 2765 in 1993. Still 700s but more worn.
That was my assumption, too. Her whistle sound has changed every month this summer. It was in tune back in August (it had the 2009-2011 tuning), but last weekend it was out of tune again. I was hoping that maybe they were trying to get this sound back, but I sure didn't expect to hear this yesterday.
On another note, it seems like FWRHS is throwing it back to 1987 this year. Besides the whistle sound, she also got her polished-cylinder covers and black-wall tires back.
The mighty Berk speaks again
I didn't have time to count the rivets on the tender!
Unpopular opinion but I liked the tuning of the 2000’s more. It’s probably cause that was the whistle I grew up hearing, or the fact the 765 sounds like it’s squealing each time they blow it
Why did they put a second light on 765
That's her MARS light. The Nickel Plate installed them on all of their Berkshires and many of their other steam locomotives back in the early 1950s. The 765 had hers reinstalled in August 2016. She also wore it occasionally in the 1980s, most notably in 1987.
@@railsandracing oh ok. Thanks for the info
@@AlleghenyRailProductions Sure, you're welcome!
Am I the only one that noticed that her whitewalls are gone…
She ran without them this season. She also wore her polished cylinder covers this year.
@@railsandracing I realized that too.
@@NKP_Railfanning_ProductionsThe whitewalls are back for 2024.
Didn’t it wear this whistle in 2009 as well?
Yes! The 765 has carried this same whistle for the majority of her excursion career. It has sounded different over the years due to a variety of factors, chiefly wear-and-tear, adjustments to the bowl of the whistle, and positioning of the whistle inside the steam deflector shield. Fyi, it sounded exactly like 2009-2011 back in August (South Milford Memorial Trips).
It sounds like sp 4449's 6 chime whistle from the 90s
Road 765 in 1988 new river gorge
They did the same thing with 611
was she rebuilt?
Her previous overhaul was completed in 2005. During that overhaul, her whistle (originally wore by #700) was remachined and that changed it from the way it had sounded back in the 80s-90s. Now that the whistle has almost two decades of wear, the FWRHS crew were able to adjust the bowl of the whistle and reposition it back to were it was in the 90s and recreate that iconic sound.
Is the whistle still tuned that way I sincerely hope they didn’t re-tune it to something else
This was her last weekend of trips for 2023 (October 14-15). As of her return to New Haven at the end of the month, she still sounded this way.

@@railsandracing nice sounds amazing I’m glad it’s finally her original tune for her six chime whistle
Old fart with the cap: If you have your back turned and not watching, get the heck out of the way!!!
IKR I was wondering what the hell was he doing there/ looking at? Acted like there was something more interesting (??!) back there.
@@bozoleclown7671 Posing for a picture instead of living in the moment.
The whistle tuning she had going over horshoe curve sounds better.
I have good memories of that tuning. It did sound great as well. There haven't been many times during the 765's career when her whistle hasn't sounded good.
@@railsandracing I agree wholeheartedly, I wish we could clone her whistle and use it on other big steamers like 2926, 3751 and maybe even newly rebuilt engines. Thing can be heard for miles, right?
NERDS!
I see the steam locomotive have a Mars light.
