Hah I feel ya on that. Every time I surf after a warm water trip I’m cursing paddling out. I tried not to be as negative when I got back from El Salvador recently. Where’s your home break again?

Fort Bragg, CA. On the Mendocino coast. Conditions here mimic your conditions in OR most of the time.

Had to look on a map lol. Makes sense that conditions are similar!

Oh we just cris crossed regular straps from front seat hand pulls to the back seats. We did use bungees for the trunk. Super convenient for a shorter board.

Hell yeah come down to Oregon. I gotta say though, you have some pretty sweet waves near you. If I didn’t have to drive so far to surf I’d explore more breaks on the Washington coast. - Mel

Going to be hard to deny Washington, some of those set ups up north seem to be working pretty consistently. Plus there is that drive time in the winter when the days are getting shorter, surf windows are already tight.

Yes it’s a beautiful beach and very protected on both ends. You would love it!

Thanks so much! Yes all the baby steps have made this a fun journey. And I credit the surf camp for speeding it up a bit for me. Surfing daily really makes a huge difference. I feel you on the attempts to surf on the Oregon coast. I simply do not surf as well here. I blame it on the cold and the wetsuit haha. Hope you’re able to make it out to Costa Rica. Jimmy and I are heading to El Salvador this coming week.

My friend and I did experience the localism one time when we surfed by ourselves before the camp. We just let them take wave after wave and then they finally let us take some. I think the surf instructors at WRSC act as both guides and to prevent the locals from causing the surf groups problems. Im going to El Salvador next so I’m curious how it will be there.

I usually go 4-5 months not surfing in fall/winter bc the waves get too big here in the PNW. But I get right back to it after.

Hey Steve, It was so awesome to meet you as well! I hope you caught some good waves today. Sadly I was struggling a bit. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m a better surfer in warm water haha. Happy to hear you’re heading back to Witch’s Rock this year. Not sure when we will be back there, hopefully next year. And yes we’re excited for El Salvador. Yeah it’s funny I have no problems rolling into ramps without the coping. It’s the going from stationary to suddenly falling that’s scary haha. Thanks for the encouragement!

Yeah I primarily use a surfskate but have been considering using a regular skateboard to learn how to drop in first. Seems like it would be much easier to learn on.
