It's been awesome to see your progression! Nice job, Mel! We always look forward to your videos. Great tips! We know the "calm down" tip too well and need to practice that more haha. Looks like a nice day to be out on the Oregon coast Awesome that you are trying different boards to see what works for you as you progress in surf.
Thank you! Yes the calm down part is still really difficult in practice. I feel better knowing I’m not the only one stressing in the water! Can’t wait to reunite 😊
Love this video. I’m in Japan snowboarding for a season. Heading to UK to surf for the season after years away. I’m so excited and your tips definitely helped ❤
Thank you so much for watching! I’m glad you found the tips helpful. Would love to visit Japan someday and surf there! Have you tried surfing in Japan? - Melanie
Had a surf instructor here on the Mendocino coast tell me the same piece of advice. Calm down when paddling for your wave. I had no idea what he meant until I actually tried it. Oscar is right! A slower paddle creates more forward motion than scratching frantically at the water. Also, being that you've surfed in Costa Rica so many times now I can't help but wonder if the lack of the wetsuit there influences your pop-up and surfing? I've never surfed without a wetsuit and can't help but think that surfing in warm water without one will feel totally different lol!
Sometimes I still get frantic and then have to remind myself and rein my emotions in 😅. I definitely feel as though I surf better in warm water. And the convenience of not having to put one on or take off is so nice! Can’t wait for you to experience the warm waters of Costa Rica!
Great tip for going down the line!
Thanks! It's still a work in progress. Hope you're getting some good skate and surf sessions in!

Sweet vid! Your turns are solid, you look where you want to go and you swing your whole body.
Thanks! This was from fall before I started really practicing on the surf skate. So I’m hopeful my turns will be even better now!
