I love both carrots and broccoli and so I am SHOCKED by this blasphemy 🤣 Aww thank you for mentioning my review <3 I am anticipating the release of model home still even though I have read it, because then I will get to discuss it with you! I would also be team Christmas jumpers! Although Christmas day we actually do fancy dress. The doctor who christmas specials are special indeed ^.^ Ooh, maybe I need to read violent night myself!
Never heard of Jingle Jangle! We watched Violent Night and I really enjoyed it. I love the Brambly Hedge illustrations and I’ve always meant to read The Edge Chronicles. Puddle Lane! I remember that on tv. The Faraway Tree and The Wishing Chair books are the reason I love fantasy. Yes, we need a Whisperwicks movie!
I watched this when it was out and realised today that didn’t leave a comment as I was listening while cooking! I need to read Code Dependent but have been putting it off because I’m scared of how it might make me feel, despite being someone who sees the positives in AI. CCL 🤍🤍🤍 I have Raising Hare and will definitely get to it. I knew you would love Far From the Madding Crowd. It is apparently one of the lightest Hardy books!
I love this!! 🩵🩵
Thank you Abi 😘❤️
24:24 yassssss!!!!!!! Charra was such hilarious, talanted joy! Her Cheryl is a drag race legend snatch game moment. I love concepts humour and shade! 💜🏳️🌈🪭👠
Charra was a sweetie we loved her. ❤️
19:00 😂😂😂😂 lol no don't drop the Queens!
17:17 🥹🥰
12:45 - love the outfits plans from Q! How has Emily not demanded you read Percy already? When you have I can pester you to listen to the musical soundtrack, I am now obsesed with! 😂💜📚
6:09 - i love it! Clearly drag queens love hobbits, hobbiton would be where campy drag queens do brunch and shows, your edgy queens probably live in Mordor or the mines with the Balrong...oh wait is rings, do Queens just love rings 😉🏳️🌈🪭👠💜📚 Agree Oscar Kate butch is a legend! I love her too, and Ginger! So cool you met Pixie before! After this season finished (incredible!) I re-watched 5, then 4. My fave is Tia Kofi giving the best interviews in season 2 and showing off her talant as a singing lab rat with an ear on her back "Is it fashion - No! Is it Stylish - No! Is it attached to my body - Just about" 😂💜📚
0:29 I LOVE this concept!!!! 🏳️🌈🪭👠 so glad you had a lovly day
Thank you lovely ❤️
Loved this Charlie, I love DragRace too
Thank you Elaine ❤️
How lovely was that? 💖👸🏼 Fun Home is a great Graphic Novel and she invented the Bechdel test as well.
Oh really that’s so interesting!! Looking forward to reading the book.
Oh my god the nostalgia of seeing that Jane Asher fancy dress book!! 😍 We definitely had that! I’ve added a bunch of these to my wish list. This was the most fun!
Haha it’s so cool that you had the same book!! Yeah we had the best day ❤️
I love all the Women's Prize books featured here! How to say babylon and Code Dependent were so good! And Thunderclap I struggled to get into but I should get the audiobook soon! Matrescence and Intervals I never managed to get my hands on sadly! Now I want to read them even more! Yay for Soldier Sailor! And I got Raising Hare coming up from a library hold next month, so excited for that!
This NEEDS to be a yearly video!
Haha yess I hope so 😂😂
I got so confused! I meant James Barclay hahahaha not even one of the names was right! 😂😂😂🧜♀️
FYI cry of the newborn deals with some super heavy topics so if you have trauma that might not be the one
😂 I did put you on the spot when you were having a very busy day! Thank you for your recommendations and for watching …you have made my day😘❤️❤️❤️
Davina De Campo watched your video! 😃😃😃Of course Charlie it's fantastic and she is a classy queen of the people ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 Davina De Campo said the wrong author - "I don't think!" 😂 will look up heavy sci-fi by James Barclay. Thank you for providing trigger warning checks 📚💜
I am late to this video because I am a bit behind with all the vlogmas content, but I hope you still managed to have a good christmas and new years. I know how hard it is when a year is ending where a lot has changed and it's going into a new year without Alice, but I love what you said about holding on to those good and happy memories too, and remembering her <3 Sending you lots of love as always, Charlie xx
Thank you Olivia 😘❤️❤️
This is amazing! 👏👏👏
Thank you lovely ❤️
Some great books on your list
Thank you Elaine ❤️
I’ve loved Grace Dents books
I can’t wait to get to her other one ❤️
I hope you enjoy it
What fun, Charlie.
Thank you Janet ❤️❤️
I love this so much!! The Queens are so fabulous. This was such a fun video, and it’s really nice to get recs from outside our BookTube bubble 🤩
Thank you!! Yeah I agree about getting recommendations outside of our Booktube bubble it was quite refreshing ❤️
Ooh look forward to the announcement/s in the next one! Great to have Hardy at number 1! I think Tess is above madding crowd for me, they're the only two I've read so far. The women's prize did so well for us both this year! I just get to Intervals as I bought it when the longlist came out but haven't read it yet xx
Yeah the announcements will be in my goals/wishes which I will hopefully film this week. ❤️Yeah for Hardy!! ❤️ Intervals isn’t an easy read but it’s soooo good ❤️📚❤️
I love everything about this 🥰
Thank you lovely ❤️🥰❤️
Yay so many amazing recommendations🎉🎉 One of them liked Philippa Gregory yay.. So glad you both had fun 💜💜
It was the best day ❤️❤️
Yes - read The Lord of the Rings!! Love this. So many great recommendations! Brilliant that you met Ash from Traitors.😂 What a great day and wonderful memories for you both!
Yeah I can’t wait to read TLOTR ❤️❤️Haha yeah I got so over excited by Ash 😂😂
I'm thrilled you loved Boulder. We have a fair few overlaps in our favourites this year so I should probably read all the others. Intervals jumped out for one. And hurrah for picking the wonderful FFTMC.
Yeah it’s funny but obviously shows we have good taste 😉❤️❤️
I loved James. Far From the Madding Crowd was a great read years ago. Code Dependant is on the tbr.
Yeah thank you lovely ❤️❤️
🐄🐄🌵🌵🌵🌵
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have to admit I agree with Charlie and I hate jingle jangle and I didn't even make it to the end of the film when I watched it. I really love klaus and it is my favourite contemporary christmas film. I rewatch it every year ^.^ Your savage review of this is how you lose a time war made me cackle 🤣 especially the message to charlie. I do love it though as you know 😅 I ended up dnfing still life last year, but then again I don't read too many historical things. I have been hearing such good things about the whisperwicks, I might have to add it to my to be read wishlist! I also really love sunrises and sunsets as you know, and I've been watching the sunrise every morning in winter while I am getting ready for the day.
Haha. Definitely read the Whisperwicks!! I love that that you also love the sky as much as me 🥰❤️
💛💛💛
❤️❤️❤️
I've heard *everyone* talk about James lately, I think I need to pick it up!!
Yeah you do 😘❤️❤️
Can't wait to read Bodies of Light! Thanks for this video and happy New Year xx
It’s such a great book! Let me know what you think of it when you get to it ❤️Happy New Year too 🥳❤️❤️
Boulder, Mammoth, and permafrost are now all on my shelf to read this year. Great seeing Baltasar on your list - it feels even more promising Brotherless Night is also hugh up on my TBR. Brilliant list ❤
Can’t wait to hear what you think of them Katja 😊❤️❤️
Ah I hated Hardy at school but appreciate him so much more now! Looking forward to your next video. 👀
Thank you Keri 😊❤️
What a lovely video, Charlie. I love that your favorite novel of the year was a Thomas Hardy novel. James was near the very top of my list too. Hope you are doing well and off to a great 2025.
Thank you Pat 😘❤️❤️
Great list, Charlie! I had James, Thunderclap, Code Dependent and Brotherless Night on my best-of 2024 list too. Jack had already convinced me to try Cloud Cuckoo Land in 2025 despite my reservations based on my experience with All the Light We Cannot See, and I am happy to see your endorsement here too. My best book of 2024 is Age of Insecurity by Astra Taylor.
Lots in common then Lindy 😊❤️❤️ Can’t wait to hear what you think of CCL ❤️
God I have had cloud cuckoo land on my kindle for yonks. I have read hardly any non fiction over the last year so I enjoyed hearing you talk about all those books ❤
Read Cloud Cuckoo Land for sure you won’t regret it and then let me know what you think of it after!! ❤️❤️
I would give Cloud Cuckoo Land another go at some point, I think that when I picked it up I didn't have the brain energy for it. I'm looking forward to reading more Hardy. Great to hear your thoughts as always ❤
You definitely need to give CCL another shot ❤️❤️
Hurray for Boulder! And James! And Thunderclap! And Soldier Sailor!
We always have quite similar bookish taste 😊❤️
Great list Charlie! The amount of non-fiction and WP nominees really shines through. Just about to start Cloud Cuckoo Land! And you’ve sold me on Body of Light, so it’s gone on the wishlist 😅
Thank you Ben 😊❤️
I just finished Far from the Madding Crowd, 1.25☆ unpopular opinion (spoilers) (I ended up going super hard while expressing myself, I'm attacking the book pretty mercilessly. But glad you had a good time!😊) This was a horror novel for me. Poor Bathsheeba had to constantly fend off weirdos that only wanted her body and as a status symbol. I feel like in a different time she would have not been with any man, pbly nobody but maybe another woman or an ace partnership of some kind. Troy was a very poor choice but the other options were only marginally better. I found Oak to be the best option, but still to be a very persistent creep. There's also confusing symbolism in the bible Bathsheeba is king David's 8th wife (all at the same time), she was forced to marry him after he had her first husband k*lled and was his "consort" till he got her pregnant. So I don't know what the intent of the framing of the novel and clashing symbolism was meant to imply. (I don't think Bathsheeba was used as a name for no reason) For me it was about a woman forced to conform by societal pressure and getting used and utterly disrespected by predatory men.
That’s completely fine Zach. Troy WAS a poor choice 😉❤️
Starts with Jennifer Down, finishes with Thomas Hardy - amazing! 🤩🤩
Haha thank you Scott 😊
This list really shows how following the Women’s Prize lists is a good idea! Looking forward to seeing your goals video Charlie! 💚
Thank you Jo. I just love the Women’s Prize and particularly the NF Women’s Prize was just such a treat.
Great list Charlie you are amazing 🎉🎉 We both have brotherless night on our list. I do need to borrow that hare book 😊
Love you Emy. Yep let me know when you want to borrow the book ❤️
My favourite was 'Glorious Exploits' by Ferdia Lennon.
Oooh I really want to read that one Clare 😊
@@CharlieBrookReads I listened to the audio and went out and bought the book, it's smart but accessible.
@ might treat myself to the audiobook then 😊
Nice Books
😊
Such a varied list - great to hear more about the books you've been enthusing about.
Thank you Charlie 😊
