Really fun hearing your thoughts, not my reading tastes bit enjoy living through you and your fellow plodder as well as other tubers like Nicole. Love hearing something on of you loves another DNF's. Still need to catch up on Gem's videos but so far across the board Solidier Sailer and In defence of the act are your collective Faves 💜📚
I am so glad you had a good time with Hangman. That one wasn't my favorite and I was happy to hear a positive review of it. If it gets shortlisted, I think I will give it a reread to see what happens.
I stopped this video to stop and read the sample of Hangman because you really intrigued me and it really is interesting! I really love In Defence of The Act and Ordinary Human Failings, they were my two favourites.
It was so fun to see your shortlist predictions and what you thought might make it or not and why! I now know the shortlist of course and it seems like there were a lot of surprise ones on there. But you did a great job with this video x
Great job!! I've only read 5 (we've mainly read opposites!) I gave brotherless night 5* although it broke me, I cried a fair bit! Nightbloom was so close behind at 4.75* so. I'm desperate for both of them to make it!! I haven't read anything else shortlist worthy. I predict that the two above, plus soldier sailor, then she fell, enter ghost and ordinary human failings will be the shortlist. See you on weds to discuss!! X
So funny because we normally read the same but that’s the thing about being at the mercy of the libraries ☺️So pleased you loved Brotherless Night too, it broke my heart as well 🥹 Looking forward to getting to Nightbloom. Not long til we find out!!
I have only read In Defence of the Act, which I really loved. Interestingly I've also read What I'd Rather Not Think About from the International Booker list, which is dealing with the same topic. It was okay, but nothing really special. I'm still waiting for Soldier Sailor, Enter Ghost and Ordinary Human Feelings to come in from the library. The Poetryreadathon goes really well. I created a public StoryGraph challenge for it, because I was so excited! Of course I gave you and Charlie the credits for it. 🤗
Thank you fur creating the StoryGraph challenge you are the best.🥰 Sorry What I’d rather not think about was so disappointing. Pleased your reading for the Poetryreadathon is going so well!! ❤️
I liked your list! This is my first year paying attention to the Women’s Prizes. Nonfiction is my favorite, so I’ve been focused on that prize. I do plan to read the fiction shortlist. I did read Hangman (loved) and I plan to read In Defence of the Act, Ordinary Human Failings, and A Trace of Sun next whether they make the shortlist or not.
@@CharlieBrookReads I have read Thunderclap, How to Say Babylon, and Code-Dependent from the NF list. I'm waiting for Doppelgänger to be delivered. I also read Vulture Capitalism from the long list. I've enjoyed them all so far.
Yay! I am so shocked you think WL might get listed. I don’t think it stands a chance (although I love it). We are pretty much on a similar page with these though. I wonder if I will like Brotherless Night. Loved hearing you trying to talk about the madness that is Hangman. 😊📚
"I really miss Pod" - Charlie!! haha I actually really enjoyed the beginning of Hangman but then it dragged - which I know it was the point but....just not for me. But I could see it being shortlisted!
11 of 16! You've read more than your 2 buddies!! I enjoy following you guys and your pleasure at reading all these. I've read 8 Lives and hope to read The Maiden if my library will ever get a copy - sigh. None of the others appealed to me based on the blurbs and the reviews. I do think the contest is wonderful PR, especially for the debut authors! Hope your favorites make it through!!
Haha thank you. Yeah I am looking forward to reading The Maiden too, my sister loved it. Yeah it is lots of fun and we just love it. Thank you for your support ☺️
I would like to see Hangman and In Defense of the Act because both of those books are doing something different. I'm not sure if that is what the Women's Prize is looking for though or if they look for more mainstream books for the shortlist. I think your predicted list is a strong one.
Watching everyone’s review of Hangman makes me think that this is the Pod of this year’s list. People seem to have very strong reactions to it and either hate it or love it. It’s made me very curious…
I hope that brotherless night, Nightbloom and soldier sailor get shortlisted. I do think enter ghost will go on it with the wren the wren. I dont want dolly on itv
I recently bought your number one so I’m so glad you rated it so highly!!! ❤❤❤
That’s brilliant, I hope you enjoy it!!
I love hearing you compare a book to cornflour - 😆 perfectly explains how unplaceable a book is though - love plating with cornflour at work! 😂💜📚
😂❤️❤️❤️

Really that’s cool. Thank you for your support Chattie you are the best 😘❤️
You have made me want to read Hangman. I am struggling a bit to get into Brotherless Night.
Just be gentle on yourself. Definitely try Hangman!! Not long til we find out!!
Hey Brian! I told you Hangman was brilliant a couple of weeks ago! Ya big nut! Hahahaha 🤣😂🤣
@@TKTalksBooks I might try it.
@@BookishTexan I was just being silly 🥰

I think it’s because I was dreading it and then when I got hooked, it just didn’t let me go and it surprised me ☺️

I really love In Defence of The Act and Ordinary Human Failings, they were my two favourites.
Haha I love that!!
I would be happy if OHF and In Defence of The Act get shortlisted 🤞🤞🤞🤞

I enjoyed In Defence of the Act as well. The writing was gorgeous in some instances.
Yes it was so surprising ☺️
Exciting day tomorrow! 🥁
Definitely ☺️❤️

@@CharlieBrookReads It’s very good! It wasn't one that was high on my list, but I was pleasantly surprised by it and Vulture Capitalism.
Excellent job on this video, btw 🎉😊

😂😂🐬I can see how that happened for you. Not long til we find out!! Xx
Hangman is quite brilliant, I think. And so so funny. And also sad. I think Maya Binyam 💯 % achieved what she set out to do. It could win.
Completely agree ❤️
Yay, thanks for sharing your predictions! I don't think you'll be too far off, although I think I'd prefer your wishlist over your predictions list 😅
Haha me too obviously 😂😂Not long!!
Your predictions look quite realistic, I would not be surprised if you got 5 or even all 6 correct.
Haha I hope so Scott. Not too long til we know ☺️
My predictions were the same except for 8 Lives instead of Western Lane. I think I've read or dnf'd 7 and sampled the other 6.
Clearly we think alike 😉Not long til we find out ❤️
My shortlist is sort of a mashup of your wishlist and prediction. I have four in common with both those lists. Yes, it still adds up to six. ish 😂
Oooooh that’s exciting!! Which ones? Not long til we find out!!
@@CharlieBrookReads I was trying to be mysterious to boost my own prediction video 😂
@@TheLeniverse haha I see …I will go and watch a bit later 😉

I throughly enjoyed Hangman. I would love to see it on the list. My copy of In Defence of the Act just arrived, so I hope to finish by Wednesday.
Completely agree I think they would make fabulous additions to a shortlist❤️🤞🤞🤞Not long to wait!!
