hair goals ♥️ I’d love to see a memoir-heavy shortlist, gives me an excuse to go book shopping because my library is still mega lacking unfortunately. looking forward the reaction later!
So difficult to choose! I just don’t know what they will pick. Glad to see Wifedom on your wishlist. Such a good read. Excited for tomorrows announcement and plod! 😊
I love seeing how much you adored how to say babylon because it always reminds me that I need to pick it up soon. I hadn't heard many reviews of intervals so it was good to hear that you liked it so much ^.^ I am surprised by code dependent being such a good one as well, I might have to look into it if you like it. And wifedom does sound promising. Eve is actually really high on my wishlist -- and I think that's the only one for the longlist I don't own and would like to get. Your predictions were fun!
Exciting times!! I've only read how to say babylon and Matrescence, but both were 5* for me. I'm waiting for tomorrow to pick my next one! I own Intervals, so will read that one regardless. I'd love to try young queens and Wifedom, but also interested in doppelganger, code dependent, vulture capitalism, thunderclap... So many good choices!! PS your hair looks lovely x
Love the red Charlie! This seems like such a strong list that anything could be on it! I’ve only read Some People Need Killing which I thought was really good and am about 250 pages into Shadows at Noon which I am loving but I generally love Indian literature and history so that was kind of inevitable. Reading it slowly is a great idea and you don’t really have an option because it’s not a read anywhere book in hardback 😉 I think Doppelgänger might be on the list but I know whatever gets on there there are still seven or eight I’d be keen to read some day.
Thank you Jo 😘 Pleased you are also reading Shadows at Noon. I really liked her writing style in the introduction. The history of South Asia isn’t something that I have ever really learned about so can’t wait to get stuck into it! ❤️
Hi Charlie! I am not much of a literary or a NF reader (I read about 120 books a year and 8-10 of them are literary or NF), but I just got Young Queens from the library. The only other one from the longlist that is of interest to me is Wifedom, but it is not yet available in our library system here in Alabama in the US. I, too, have enjoyed Louise's thoughts on all 16! Looking forward to the reveal tomorrow!
Looking forward to hearing what you think of Young Queens. It’s frustrating when books aren’t available internationally hopefully Wifedom gets released soon for you. 🤞
Intervals is a tough read yes but it’s beautifully written and talks about the difficult topic with love and care. Definitely beware if it’s a trigger for you though ❤️
I have Shadows at Noon but have not started it. I dnf'd A Flat Place. I loved the writing but memoirs are one of my biggest hit or miss genres. I think it was a case of a "me problem" and not a problem with the book. I did love How to Say Babylon. I would like to get to a few others but I probably will wait to get to them later in the year.
Yeah for Shadows at Noon. Not every book is for every reader. There are definitely a few on this list I am wary of. No rush on the others I agree. I am trying to think of this list as a project rather than to rush through them! ❤️
I've read four and a half from the list and of those I hope to see How to Say Babylon and Wifedom on the shortlist. I feel like How to Say Babylon worked better for me than A Flat Place. I haven't read Thunderclap yet but it sounds like it belongs on the shortlist. I am half way through Eve and I might soft DNF it if it doesn't make the shortlist, finding it a bit dry. I hope to pick up a couple from the longlist that sound interesting later in the year even if they don't make the shortlist. Interested in Code Dependent in particular but it doesn't come out here until June.
That’s a shame about Eve being dry. That was my concern hearing the premise of it. Always a good idea to DNF if you feel that way. Annoying that Code Dependant is taking so long to come out your way. Hopefully it’s worth the wait. ☺️
Having some of the books not available yet is at least allowing me to read more of the fiction longlist and a few from the Stella prize. So many books, so little time. Also I think your hair is looking fabulous@@CharlieBrookReads
I'd love to see A Flat Place on the shortlist, but I don't know if they'll include too many memoirs and How to Say Babylon seems like a lock. Other than that, I think Wifedom has been universally loved. It's a fresh topic, and I hope that gets rewarded. It seems like the ultimate pro-woman book, in my opinion.
Intervals sounds tooo triggering for me 🫣 did you finish Shadows At Noon? I am looking to read it, it’s one of the few books available to me. I will read How To Say Babylon once I get my hands on it.
Intervals might be very triggering. It is definitely not an easy read. Stay clear if you need to lovely. I am still reading Shadows at Noon. I am dipping in and out of it but loving it so far. I hope you can get your hands on How To Stay Babylon.
Bless your heart. Quite a project to highlight us ladies😊
Thank you ☺️
So good to hear your thoughts on these. The lists have been great this year. 🤞🏻for the shortlist. 😊💙
Thank you Jolene. 🤞🤞❤️
I love how enthusiastic you are for all these 😃💜📚
Thank you 🥰
hair goals ♥️

Thank you Amelia 😘❤️
Yes memoir heavy would be idea of book heaven with the shortlist but I doubt it will be 😂🤞Looking forward to chatting later.
💛💛💛
❤️❤️❤️
So difficult to know what the judges would pick (even more for a first year prize!). You did so well, Charlie!
Thank you Camila ❤️
Love your hair Charlie!!
Thank you Jen ☺️❤️

Yes after your glowing review Wifedom would never have missed out on a spot. Eeeeek not long now!!!

Thank you lovely. I hope you enjoy whichever ones you pick up as you get to them ❤️
You know I know diddly about non fiction but I am intrigued what will go through and how right you are 😊💜
Cheers Emy ☺️

I’m going to try and read the short list I’ve read 13 of the fiction books
13 of the fiction books is AMAZING Katrina 👏❤️ That’s a good idea about reading the shortlist esp as Non fiction can need a bit more time.
Great predictions! A Flat Place made it 😄 Intervals sounds very tough going - was it?

I would love to see both those on there. I completely agree about Wifedom based on what I have heard. Can’t wait to get to it. ❤️Not long now!!
