    Hey man sorry to hear about your potential stress fracture. I've recently returned from a 2nd metatarsal stress fracture. Biggest change I've had to make is to take recovery more seriously. Particularly with calory intake before and after running. Best piece of advice I could give is give your body the time to recover from the fracture and don't run until you're 100% certain that all feels normal. We often kid ourselves and say there's no pain when there is still a niggle. All this does is delay the recovery even further. Rest up, eat well and you'll be back in no time!

Sorry to hear about your injuries - I guess sometimes we have to go through these things to start new habits which will help avoid repeat injuries in the future! And yeah completely agree on coming back only when you’re definitely 100%… can be short term ‘pain’, but for long term gain!

    Did the Boston marathon with you on that day. Was horrendous. In the following 4 weeks I had a recovery week, peak week and a 2 week taper before taking on my first 50k ultra marathon. At the end of my ultra (4 weeks after Boston) I felt much better despite the longer distance, mud and variable terrain. I’m definitely an ultra runner at heart and can’t wait to do my next race. Good luck with your future marathon adventures

      Well done again Barry on the marathon… and congrats on your first ultra! That’s some going to do that so soon after such a brutal race, and interesting that you found the marathon harder 😮 I haven’t done an ultra yet, closest I’ve got is a hilly trail marathon - but it does appeal and may be something I turn to in the future. Weather aside, do you think it was the different approach (presumably finishing rather than a major goal pace target) that meant you found the ultra easier? And thanks - same to you too!

    Great watch Nick - overall obviously a fab w/end. A few comments - the one and only time I have cramped in a race was a half marathon in Malta in what can only be described as a biblical storm - cold, wet surface water is not good for calves! You shouldn't apologise for lack of in-race footage - in fact what on earth are you doing wasting vital energy & focus when you should be all-in concentrating on your rhythm and race strategy. Maybe save the filming for pre and post race at Abingdon. We want to celebrate your success, not worry about a lack of in-race footage. Finally, you need to try and work out what caused the dramatic fall-off in pace - was it the cramping & conditions or did you feel you just lacked the strength endurance? This will determine how you best prepare for Abingdon. Very well done though, 3:14 and a PB in those conditions is a BIG positive take-away!

    • @nrg_runs
      @nrg_runs 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks David, interesting insight. I’ve cramped up in various conditions now - I do wonder if it’s both a nutrition and a strength issue. I didn’t find the filming too obstructive, but I take your point. I didn’t record at all in the second half for that reason, until after I’d cramped/stiffened up and was effectively running east pace. Yes lots to unpick - going to get into it for my next video so would interested to hear your take on my take 😊

    Blimey Nick, that was tough! You are certainly in better shape and I ran 3:02 at Manchester. Whilst Boston is more flat you are at the mercy of the weather and I know if you ran at Manchester you would have gone sub 3. But a PB is a PB 🏆
