    Great video and very interesting! I absolutely love dark grain wood so this ebonizing thing is very intriguing! I do wonder why not ebonize the inside of the bowl too? Personally the purpose I would ebonize is to give the impression the wood is indeed ebony and the light rim and interior shatter that illusion quickly. Beautiful work overall, I am a newbie and cant wait to begin doing 'extra' coloring/embellishments etc especially when all of the wood I really have access to is just plane ole raw pine :p

    So all of the Danish oil instructions I have seen insist on the apply / let soak 10-15 min / wipe off / let harden method. You don’t wipe off the finish at all, so it looks like to me you are putting most of your attention toward controlling the curing process, so the shiny look we see BEFORE we wipe off the finish will remain. This is all new thinking but i like it.

    • @WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP
      @WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is correct if you wipe you cant get the shine.. thanks for watching. have a nice day.

    Not lazy or cheap here. But I have found stacking rounds before ripping with chainsaw slows checking. I will alternate rounds once in while. It is like putting tree back together and one gets exercise when restacking rounds.

    I like that you refer to the grind as an Irish grind.. 45 years ago I was reading Peter Child who was English and got me thinking about bowl gouge grinding.. Your presentation is very good too ..Your English is wonderful too. I have always used a cactus juice like product.. I guess it’s time to try this.. Years ago I found a vacuum pump at a yard sale and was cheap. I change the oil in in the vacuum pump from time to time and still can go to -27.5 bars.. on these old punky bowls I like urathane as a finish and holds up better over time.. Your hollow form bowl is very pretty too .. Thank you.. ☺️👍

    I have made green bowls for 55 years…. When I find a crack I like to grind them a little bit and grind below the surface.. I use like a fordom or dremel with small bit.. This allows the resin I use to patch them to fill in the crack and is less likely to be surface only.. The effort to just patch surface causes many to fall out while turning or sanding.. The bowl is very pretty and using a crotch of the tree is great.. When my bowls are finished while green I use paste was to slow down drying and shrink wrap.. i weigh the bowl and put results on the base.. I fill the grain with paste wax and shrink wrap.. I keep weighing them over time and eventually like you I turn the round and if crack I treat as I said above.. great project..

    Just some feedback. I'm doing this on some drums I'm building and I've found that I can get a really decent gloss after only 3 coats. It would probably be a bit better after four coats but I'm happy with the way it is now. Second, make sure the Danish oil is really dry before sanding between coats otherwise it'll gum up your sandpaper in about 2 seconds.
