Ultimate Vulcan Display - Barrel Rolls, Loops & extreme low level
Two Vulcans behave like fighters, a B1 and B2 perform three rolls and two half-loops, as well as a fast and low pass right over the top of a landing Victor bomber at Farnborough 1958. You will never again see a display like this; no other aircraft this size is capable of performing these manoevers and modern aviation rules wouldn't allow. Due to a Vulcan crash at Syerston a week later, when an ...
First British Vertical Take-off Jet - Short SC.1
The Short SC.1 at Farnborough in 1960 - this experimental aircraft helped to develop the later Harrier, except this had 4 lift engines and one for forward flight rather than the nozzles of the Harrier. Interestingly it flew until 1971, still testing VTOL concepts.

The size of a 747 and powered by ten turboprop engines. Flying only 47 times, the Saunders-Roe Princess was an aircraft out of its time in the jet age. Still, this footage that's not been seen in 71 years shows the lumbering giant well, the sound the Princess makes really is excellent.
Victor Prototype flys display on 3 engines!
Farnborough 1953, and the Victor prototype that had first flown less than a year before was due to display, but unable to get one of the Sapphire engines started - they took off and flew a display anyway! Got to admire their spirit back then. Apologies for the quality of the footage - please remember it is 71 years old!
Earliest footage of thrust reverse - Hawker Hunter test aircraft
Testing the principle of reverse thrust via a RR Avon in 1956, these images of this Hawker Hunter are probably the earliest footage available of reverse thrust available. I believe it may have been demostrated earlier by a vampire, but no images or footage exists that I can find. The pilot uses smoke (you can see this deployed on final approach) to illustrate the effect of the thrust reversal. ...

Amazingly sleek, futuristic-looking aircraft. Especially when you consider that 10 years earlier the best aircraft we had were the likes of the De Havilland Vampire & Gloster Meteor. Am I right in thinking the Delta had a Concorde-style drop nose (about 10 years before the Concorde)? Would love to see a cleaned-up / remastered version of this footage.

Wow - I had no idea the Victor was capable of doing manouevres like that! Quite mind-boggling. Incredible skill by the pilot to pull that off. Its one thing to throw a small, nimble fighter around, but to do it in huge bomber...just amazing!

Its absolutely insane to watch a giant strategic nuclear bomber doing fighter-style aerobatics...and howling like a vengeful god. Nothing like the Vulcan before or since. Truly one of a kind. Massive respect to the crews who flew them. And that low-level pass over the Victor on the runway...the Red Arrows would've been proud of that.

Great footage thanks for sharing . The last of the victor pilots also flew the Vulcan in display. So tanker with the victor mon to fri then Vulcan displays at the weekend. As a tanker it struggled to go slow enough for the refuelling aircraft to keep up ! I had the privilege to fly the Sim at Marham whilst working there although I did land with various fires and a collapsed undercarriage.

(microwaved) In the 70s watching from the road that passes 30ft from end of the runway at a local UK airport, the Vulcan did a 200 ft low level pass down the runway then went vertical above us you could feel the heat from the after burners the only way to describe the sensation was like being in a microwaved when I look down all the gravel on the road was vibrating😅 miss those days. I have a picture of onlookers being blown left right and centre by a Harrier doing its turn right over the same place nobody was hurt and everybody had a great laugh

I remember seeing a Vulcan at Chivenor Air Show back in the 80's, these birds were so big, they seemed to hang in the sky defying gravity. They didn't pull acrobatic maneuvers like these though. Nonetheless, a fantastic machine and what an incredible sound - that howl!
