Just chanced on your videos. Thanks so much for making them. True pearls of wisdom from nine years ago. Amazing playing and a beautifully clear way of looking at technique and how to develop it. Thank you. 🙏
Wow nice what cool music riddle. As 2rd chord see this diminished shape as well as it sound like one. However let's analyse this from the bottom up. All the time ya have the c-note ringing on the top of the 4 magic intro chords. So it ends (4th chord) on a *DbMaj7*( ab-db-f-c). Note that is 7th in that is a C. Even though DbMaj7 might sound kinda exotic to most of ya it is not. Imagine the tones of a C-Chord shifted up by 1 semitone. So C-E-G gets c# e# g# now just label this a little more appropriate to Db f Ab. Well tones stay the same. That DbMaj7 blends really well together with C chord. Try it out. Btw I use piano here as chord-hacking-tool. To hear, see and understand what going on there harmonically. Okay one more up to the beginning. 3rd magic chord is an *F* -Chord( a-c-f-c ) with C on top 2rd magic chord is a *Dim*-Chord( a-eb-gb-c ). Just select one of the tree diminished chords that has a c-note in there and fiddle out what bass note fits best in current music context to give it proper name. I just temporarily pick Cdim7 with the tones c-eb-gb-a and see what of these tone will work best as root. Though its natural of just consisting of stacked minor 3rds diminished chords are also often called the camelon. 1rd magic chord is *surprise* an A-Minor. *am7* ( a-e-g-c ). These are the same tones the uku is tune to. Remember g-c-a-e? What we got so far: 1 a_-e_-g_-c A m7 2 a_-eb-gb-c C dim7 3 a_- c_-f_-c F 4 ab-db-f_-c Db Maj7 (5 g_-c_e_-c C ) Sounds line a descending Line clichés thejazzpianosite.com/jazz-piano-lessons/jazz-chord-progressions/line-cliches/ However I can't solve that for now. Maybe I edit this comment later when I got new idea on this. Btw found this though a tips & help link on bytownukulele.ca
Thank you very much for these very instructive videos, are there any substitute chords for the other chords of the C scale? (Dm, Em, Am, Ddim) Thanks again
Thank you for your response. Absolutely, any chord has several substitutes useable in creating sounds we enjoy!!!!
Beautiful uke and sound. I’ve never heard Amazing Grace played like that. It’s lovely. Thank you 😊
Thank you.!! So funny and easy, to start with index up , on one .!
What is the strum technique? I love it!
To much chat😂
Good day, Kimo. Last night, my neighbor and I were discussing ukuleles when your name came up. It’s so happens that she was a classmate of yours at Occidental College. It’s a small world isn’t it?
Love this!! ❤ Inspiring kindness and humanitarianism with your incredible talent. So heartwarming. Thank you for this!!
Thanks 🍺

Lovely thank you 🙏❤
Thank you, Regina!!!!!
Fantastic sir. thank you
Thank you, Mosaic Rose! What a pretty name!!!!!
@@KimoHusseyUkulele thank you so much :) You inspire me! I bought a baritone ukulele and hope to be nearly as good as you. So far I am learning the pattern of G chord, Em chord, C chord, and D7 chord. Basic, and sounds lovely.
@@XFz2nLDWo73x95 Thank you for your note, Mosaic Rose. You have already learned what I consider to be the most outstanding aspect of a baritone ukulele and that is the sound is very basic yet quite lovely. Please do let me know how I can help you enjoy your ukulele.
Words of wisdom.🤙🏾
Uncle Kimo do you teach private lessons?

@@KimoHusseyUkulele Ok thanks uncle Kimo.
We’re are you Kimo ?? 😭😭😭♥️
I'm living on Kauai now and happily continuing to share ukulele as best I can.
Sorry uncle Kimo but I like the high g with the wounded c string, but it's to your preference.
Excellent series, cannot get enough of these videos on technique from your perspective. Always love anything with Tobias as well.
Thank you, Jd Music. It's fun to share information like this and the supply of it is infinite.
You have a great Irish Name “Hussey”
Hi there. I have just started playin ukelele properly. I love the sound of your ukelelele. What sort of is it please?
I ALWAYS play ukuleles made by builders who specialize in high quality instruments. The sound I always pursue is much more low and mellow rather than high and bright. I also use low G tuning exclusively. My favorite tuning is, low to high, F-Bb-D-G. These together form the sound I like and it is amply featured the the video you saw.
Kemo I keep watching your ukulele instructional videos over and over again. It NEVER gets old; always learning from it. As an aspiring ukulele player, I am very fortunate to have found you. Thank you, thank you , Richard Ventrone
Thank You for sharing !!!
Love it!
I'm in love.

Kimo, i have been playing ukulele for the past 4 years. I plateau’d. Learning songs from TH-cam lost the charm they once had. I want to delve into the traditional Hawaiian sound that you manage to amplify. I use a 20tm ce Córdoba ukulele. I’ve practiced many finger picking songs and tunes. But I feel as though I have no idea where I could grow my skill in this instrument and just play freely. Can you help?
Hello, Seth! Thanks for your inquiry ----- I understand. I do think there are several ideas for you to consider so you can continue to move forward with your enjoyment of ukulele. Contact me at kimohussey@gmail.com. Are you FaceTime capable?
Kimo Hussey yes i am FaceTime available
Excellent teaching, and so very achievable too. Thanks very much.❤️🎶🎸🇬🇧
Thanks back, David! How can I help further?
Hi Kimo! Thanks for letting me play bass with you at Ukulele Club Of Santa Cruz those many years ago. We didn't know each other but we played as though we did! You inspire me to carry on! I hold my 'ukulele steady with my right hand pinky finger and go for pitches with thumb and forefinger, just as you demonstrate here. That's the only thing I know how to do on 'ukulele and I've been trying to explain it to students since the nineties. You have made it clear and unmissable. I'm just going to show them this video.
Thank you so much for these Mr Hussey. Still very much a beginner and am enjoying and learning so much from your videos from 6-7 years ago. Very grateful! Aloha, from Cebu Philippines.
Thank you, Halubalu! I'm glad you enjoy the videos.
Another fun song to practice this Triplet technique is Send in The Clowns.
Aloha, Kimo. Just a quick note to tell you how much I enjoy your “Low G” CD. Just purchased it the other day. At the same time, I also purchased Corey Fujimoto’s Fables CD. Terrific. Best wishes.
Thank you, Tim! I would love to know what you have, perhaps, learned from this CD. My objective in doing this CD was to portray a certain style of play to see if I could generate discussion in continuing to search for ways to share ukulele.
Kimo Hussey Hi Kimo. Having just got your CD yesterday, it’s too early to tell. My initial interest in purchasing yours and Corey’s CDs was to expose myself to various kinds of ukulele music. Since I enjoy your playing style, I wanted to hear it on CD. What became immediately apparent (with just one listen) was your right hand strumming technique with the thumb in the finger - something I have to work on... 🙏
Tim, your perception about right hand technique is right on target. The left hand has but one function ----- hold chords. The right hand controls five issues -------- melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo and dynamics. So if we spend a majority of our practice time dealing with chords while ignoring right hand technique, our music will become very unbalanced.
Kimo Hussey Thank you, Kimo. I’ve picked up those salient points from your videos. Great advice. Mahalo.
