Hi Kimo. Outstanding job and beautifully done on this CD. After (repeatedly) listening to all of it, I wanted to ask you to keep it coming on instruction, tips, and/or exercises to improve the skill of blending harmony with melody. I am always drawn to the sound you create when you do this and I want to improve my ability to do that. Looking forward to follow on instruction and thank you.
Hello Kimo - or should I say "G'day from WA"! I had the great pleasure of hearing you play and learning from you at the Albany retreat in 2013. I've since watched quite a few of your videos on youtube and am practising from them. I think this cd is a great idea as a learning tool and I would like to do it all! That is, learn the arrangements along with the techniques. Slowly and with patience of course - heeding your advice! Hard to pick a favourite to begin with from these lovely songs but if it's helpful for me to be specific straight up I'll go for La Vie en Rose. I'm learning the melody as we speak - so to speak... Thank you so much for all you do to spread the joy and the beauty of ukulele!
poriruagirrl G'day from Hawaii, Poriruagirrl. Now there's a name I don't remember!!!! Okay, La Vie En Rose it is. Let's begin by you continuing to learn just the melody and play that melody only with a thumb down stroke. When you get sick and tired of playing this, keep going for another 20 times and then let's figure out how to add harmony. Learn the melody in the key of C. I think this will be FUN.
Kimo Hussey Ah yes, my actual name is Pam. Porirua is a city north of Wellington in New Zealand where I grew up. Now this may sound strange (and not very patient of me - whoops) but I don't as yet have a low G string uke. I'm planning to buy one very soon indeed but in the meantime can you tell me whether any of the notes just in the melody of this song are played on the low G string? I'm having a wee bit of trouble identifying one note so far.
poriruagirrl Hello, Pam! I feel sensitive to the fact I've never been to New Zealand despite the fact Hawaiians feel very close to Maoris and there have been lots of exchanges between us. So I'm looking forward to that day when I can visit and help you with whatever techniques you'd like to learn. Indeed, if you play La Vie En Rose in the key of C which I recommend, you would need a low G. But if you should prefer the sound of a high G instrument, that's fine as well. Just let me know as we can change the key if we need.
Kimo Hussey Hello again Kimo. I have lived in Western Australia for most of the time since 1989 but I visit home and spend my time in beautiful Nelson. I will keep my eye out for any news that you may be going to either of these places! I now have my own low G string tenor uke which was not expensive. I bought it for $99.00 Australian from the lovely Donald - a uke enthusiast - at Crescendo Music in Myaree, Perth. It's a Mahalo and sounds fine to me. Donald didn't ask me to say anything at all, by the way. It would come as a nice surprise to him but I reckon he deserves a shout out. I was having a bit of trouble with one small part of the melody until I had the bright idea of finding an English singing version and finding the notes by the lyrics and if anyone out there wants to know, Louis Armstrong has a version on youtube which is in the key of C. So Kimo, I'm ready for the next stage and look forward to hearing from you when your schedule permits :-)
Hi Kimo! I downloaded all the songs on iTunes and kept listening to them. I'm so glad you have brought up this idea:) I'd like to learn every song, but I always wanted to learn how to play "Today". I'd like to know more about the arrangement and techniques used in your "Today-Tammy", but where should I start?
Thanks I heard some songs and it's wonderful .What I like best is the soothing swing and the tone of the instrument , Kimo is my favorite uke player and would love to watch him play live here in Italy .
Thank You, Valerio!!!! Going to Italy is still very fresh in my mind and I so look forward to that day when I'll be there. I'm going to learn some Italian songs before I come.
Hi Kimo, Just bought it. Cannot wait to listen to your beautiful music. I do hope it will help me in my ukulele playing. Thank you for all your hard work:)
+drbekken Thank you, Drbekken! I do hope to share techniques as people desire. I'd love to do more of these. If I do do this, what would you like to hear????
+Kimo Hussey I love the jazz standards, but all the songs are so beautifully arranged and played. Even if they are very different, the fact that it's all solo ukulele makes it so complete in a way. I try to watch all your tutorial stuff, but if you ever see any of my videos, you'll see that I am a much cruder ukulele player than you... I'm a professional pianist, who played the uke as a child, and then rediscovered it about five years ago. I play mostly trad jazz, blues and folk stuff, on both ukulele and piano. I'm still learning (and I always will be), so all your videos are worthwhile to me. Hope you make an album of Hawaiian stuff though. That would be a treat! And of course, come play in Norway!! All the best!
+drbekken It sure sounds to me like we've got a common interest in styles of music we enjoy on ukulele. I'd LOVE to come to Norway (I've not been there before) so we could perhaps share a concert stage and get ourselves into some real fun stuff. It would also be fun for me to do some workshops there as I would love to get an idea of ukulele in Norway. Could you put me in touch with a planner to help me with details????? My email: kimohussey@gmail.com. What a fun concert it would be!!!!!!
TheSeanboard Hi, Seanboard! I'll do another video on this tune as that was the purpose of the CD. I really like how this experiment is turning out though it is a bit early to tell for sure. Regarding La Vie En Rose, start by learning just the melody. I recommend you do this in the key of C. Initially, be very patient and concentrate only on the melody.
Thank you, Sairac! I do look forward to sharing anything and everything of interest to people who listen to it. Perhaps when I come to Germany we can share some of it personally.

Karott, thank you. Indeed, I'll continue to offer periodic ideas and suggestions I feel will help us all nourish our interest in ukulele.

Kimo Hussey Have borrowed a low G string uke until I select my own and will return when I feel thoroughly familiar with the melody.
