Speaking of Travis, how great was the lunchbox hero, Travis Snider? Made one of the best catches in Pirates history in 2012 and hit the team’s lone grand slam in 2013. Then after being traded for Stephen Brault in 2014, he made his grand return to the Bucs in 2015. Legend.

Mets haven't won a WS since '86. Dodgers last legit WS win (non-shortened season covid year) was '88. Yankees last win was '09...15 years ago. Big market money doesn't necessarily mean winning a WS. Also, a salary cap isn't going to fix anything. The NBA and NFL has a hard cap, and the teams that stink have stunk for a decade, or more.

DK I don't know why you don't think the Pirates can't be moved. The Dodgers moved and nobody thought that would ever happen. The Giants moved and nobody thought that would happen. As you said baseball did nothing about the Oakland situation and they moved, what makes you think Baseball would step in to stop Nutting from moving the Pirates because they are a legacy team? If he wanted to move the team who would stop him?

The dirty secret of revenue sharing is how little of it makes it to the small market teams. Most of it goes to the league for "promoting baseball" or to the baseball veterans. Pirates get about the amount to pay for IKF for one year.

Unless there is a salary cap, the only way the Pirates will have a level playing field is if a uber rich guy with ties to Pittsburgh buys the team and is willing to spend more than they take in. Mark Cuban has the money to do that.

Isn't it ironic? Plan B was implemented by city and county politicians to thwart the will of the people some twenty five years ago, and now city and county politicians are lobbying the citizens for help in getting Plan B right. You can't this stuff up!

Not asking Nutting for much. Spend 100 million and hire competent people that know how to evaluate talent like Milwaukee and Cleveland.

Let's be clear, once the lease is up the Pirates CAN move. It just takes one city that offers them more.

Worked great when the city of Oakland played hardball with the A's. You think the Pirates can't be moved? Why? Because of the history? Like that makes any difference to Rob Manfred or the Players association. Because the ballpark is a gem? Won't make any difference if the city threatens to push the Pirates out of it. Public pressure is necessary, but working thru the city is not the way to go.

The next SEA meeting is on November14th at 10:30 am. The public can attend and I believe can speak.

I'm so glad to hear you talk about the Pirates. I'm turning 65 next week. I remember the 60's and' 70's Pirates well. My very first game that I went to was in Forbes Field. My dad took me all the time. I saw Roberto Clemente, and Willie Stargell. I saw Manny Sanguillen, and all the greats. I was at the first games in Three Rivers. I saw a double header with the new team the Padres in the early 70's. I remember the 71 and 79 world series and' all the rivalries between the Reds and the Pirates. I remember Juan Marichal, and' Nolan Ryan when he was with the Angels lol. Tanana and Ryan an'd they go home cryin'. HA HA...they never played the Pirates, but I followed baseball and loved it. My heart is breaking when I see the last 30 years. Truly. I live in the Palm Springs, Calif area now, but still go back. I know there's not much I can do living in California. But I"m so happy to see you care, and' are trying to encourage people to do something. This is my home city. I would dearly love to see the Pirates be competitive once again. Thank you DK. :)

DK, on the bumper of my 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid is a sticker that reads: "Stop bitching - Start a Revolution." For those who feel the Pirates belong to the public trust more than it does an "owner" it's time to revolt. Just remember, as Gil Scott-Heron advises, the revolution will not be televised!

There is a stark difference between the desire to succeed and the desire to win. From a business perspective, the Pirates are succeeding; they found a formula that keeps the team solvent and they're sticking to it. Winning requires more. Winning requires being unconventional, taking chances, experiencing some disappointment and pain because the desire to win obviates all of that. Pirates ownership is content to succeed.

as horrible as bob (good for) nutting is , be careful what you wish for there are many cities out there who would welcome the pirates ,or any MLB team for that matter ! I don't know about you but I cant imagine the pirates leaving town ( I have an interest in fans filling Pittsburgh's hotels )

It should be obvious by now that Nutting has faith in Cherington for at least one more season, and that these two won't be dissuaded from their plans for bringing winning baseball back to Pittsburgh. Selling for 1.5 billion should be motivation enough, but it isn't, at least for the time being.

Bob brought the pirates for free money from mlb. See if he wins he gets more money, but if he becomes mediocre, he gets even more money because he doesn’t have to invest in the team. Major league baseball should make an amendment when you get the money from the big market teams you have to invest it in players to make your team better that’s the only way, any team specially, the pirates get better! For years, I think he’s been hiding his financial records and I think that he invested money into seven Springs from the Pirates and he should be investigated for embezzlement! How can you say that you’re losing money a few years ago when the team is worth if he sold it today $1.6 billion versus when he got it it was 566 million. He’s not a baseball guy his two daughters don’t want the team he keeps saying it’s a legacy franchise stays gonna give it to his kids. They don’t want it. Have you seen them actually on the field actually in the stands interacting with the crowd no he’s in his box, and just hiding up there. Can we make them sell the team like they did for the Dodgers maybe but I think it’s going to take a lot of high-powered people like Michael Keaton, Dan Marino, and a lot of politicians to basically say where are our tax dollars going that we helped build this beautiful ballpark back in 2001 and you’ve only had a winning product for three years that you caught lightning in a bottle.

J1Q: Even the 28th payroll Guardians are $20+ millionaire in spending. To meet, it's about hard work and faith in management. Cleveland is playing as a close-knit team and aggressive. That's taught in a system built to win, is it not?

We love the Pirates, but the Pirates don't love us.

It's crazy, being completely honest with you two I did not watch a single Pirate game from start to finish this season. Followed along in DK live feed and comments, read and watched highlights from Alex, Jose and MLB. Been a fan since before Manny Mota and Matty Alou left town and living out of market in FL sucks. I can't watch any other teams or games knowing how they have manipulated the rules and we still think our management is smarter than everyone else. My real point, I love listening to your takes each show because it's local and honest, and KINDA in my age bracket. Keep up the fight gentlemen - from here in the cheap seats near Tigertown.

Can’t wait for the 2025 season. We need more perogie races, bring your dog nights, guess which cap, Hawaiian shirt night, Booney cap night, bobble head night, $1 hot dog night…..and other carnival type antics that distracts you from the product placed on the field! Sad because there is talent on this team but it’s not being supported. Davis and Grandal not support. Williams and Bae not support. Everyone in the bullpen other than Chapman….not support!

I was in college at Michigan in 1984, and now live in southwest Michigan, and can tell you this: Detroit loves its sports teams. Also, if the Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, and Pistons were all good, the Tigers would be the most popular franchise. People cared more when they were terrible; people go nuts when they're good. The Bucs could generate that good will (though probably not to the same extent) with just decent management--but alas...

I was bummed. I root against Cleveland no matter what sport

I'm from Michigan, and I was at the penguins game last night, and DK is SPOT ON with everything he is articulating. The atmosphere at LCA was wild!

When I've watched how the Detroit and Cleveland games have been managed during the playoffs, they've been games of chess, NOT checkers. I shudder at the thought of Derek Shelton ever managing a playoff series-- he can't even properly manage a regular season game. The Pirate players won games in 2024 in spite of Shelton, NOT because of him. Why are Shelton and Cherington STILL here? Even if the Pirates happened to stumble into the playoffs, Shelton would have them tripping over themselves on their way out of the first round. He rarely puts players in the best positions to succeed, and when they don't succeed due to his boneheaded decisions to place them in the wrong spot at the wrong time (when he had other options available), Shelton blames the players publicly in postgame interviews after a loss for "not executing." Shelton (and Cherington) all too often "don't execute." I've NEVER heard Shelton say after a loss, "I made a mistake and shouldn't have put him in there." On the flip side, I've heard other MLB managers state publicly -- with humility -- that they made a crucial mistake in a particular game. Several losses in 2024 were directly related to Shelton not possessing the baseball IQ required to manage games in the ways that Hinch and Vogt can. When you compare them, it would appear that Shelton couldn't manage his way out of a wet paper bag. It's a double travesty that Shelton is the manager for a pathetic and maddening second reason-- he doesn't CARE about winning (just like it's been scripted). Unfortunately for the players and also the fans, he's either not intelligent enough or bold enough to flip the script.

Tarik Skubal of the Tigers, the pitching Triple Crown winner in the American League, will be the Cy Young Award winner in the A.L..

The Tigers put together a win streak for the ages to make the playoffs. Supplanting Javier Baez at short may have been the turning point. They play 'team first', not 'me first' baseball now.

I've always had serious doubts that, if the pirates made the playoffs, Shelton could manage effectively. Playoff baseball requires a different use of players.

Cherington is incapable of evaluating talent. He is also incapable of developing the talent he has. He is completely in over his head.

Well be having the same conversation 20 years from now. Think about that.

I completely missed that the Tigers made the playoffs. Feels like just yesterday they were as down in the dumps standings wise as the Bucs
