What saddened me about this season was missing Bob Walk on the radio, a past time I enjoyed for years, but Paul Skenes and Clutch and others aside, I didn't care for the product.
I was all in when Clint became the Manager. I dealt with his losing because winning was coming and it did. I have no such belief now and so the radio stays off.

I've posted this list elsewhere, but never here-- I've had PLENTY of things to respond to in relation to the topic of each daily episode on this site.
Since I'm currently shifting away from adding my daily comments here about the continual and very grave problems -- and that are clearly continuing to GROW under this current Pirates regime -- I'm posting this list as a "pivot point." I don't live in Pittsburgh (or PA for that matter), but I'm methodically figuring out how I can somehow help to make an impact. In the meantime, here's my list. It reminds me every day why this Pirates team is currently STILL in big, big trouble:
    Dreadful
    Yes men
    Shelton
    Feckless
    Unfit
    Nutting
    Cherington
    Travis (Williams)
    Incompetent

I could accept a more docile approach to the process. IF the process were effective and working.
It's not so much that having a disposition of being angry when losing is needed. That's just one of many ways to skin the proverbial cat. It's that these guys seem in love with their process, they don't seem upset about losing, they accept it, they think anybody questioning that is the fruitcake.... but mainly: it's that the losing continues with no signs of changing. Ranked at the bottom for minor league system strength. Terrible at MLB level. Where is the payoff?

  • @nascarandy10201

Hey DK. I don't know if you read these, but I have a question. Where is the MLB? Listen, if an existing, successful McDonalds is sold to a new owner, and' it underperforms, what does McDonalds do? They attempt to take care of the issue, correct? So 28 losing seasons out of 32 seasons total is baffling to me. How does this team (McClatchy and Nutting) get away with this. It seems to me that these owners are destroying, not only a successful market, but the brand (MLB) as well. I'm having a difficult time understanding why MLB isn't more concerned about the damage being done to its brand. It's not like there isn't tons of people with money out there that actually have the ability to own and' operate a professional sports franchise. Seems Nutting needs the MLB more than the MLB needs Nutting. Am I wrong?

The Pirates for a long time have lacked fire in the clubhouse and the front office, guys who were not afraid to scream and call out people for poor or lackluster play.
I'm thinking, in the older days about 3rd baseman Don Hoak and Manager Danny Murtaugh, and later on Manager Jim Leyland, and players like INF David Freese, C Francisco Cervelli, P AJ Burnett and C Russell Martin. These were guys who hated to lose and were ecstatic about winning, and it showed.
I'm sure I'm missing others but for Gawd's sake, doesn't anyone anymore get mad at passiveness and losing...the little things like lack of energy, basic baseball and bonehead plays?
These guys spend most of their waking lives at the ballpark working out, playing games, travelling to other ballparks, etc. Doesn't it make sense to try and make the most of it instead of just going through the motions?
I don't witness anything that goes on behind the scenes, of course, so I may be missing that sort of attitude among some Pirates-organization people, but I want to see more active anger when things aren't working.

DK keeps asking WHY fans would continue listening to these Pirates Daily Shots...Well, it's the ONLY one I regularly listen to, because DK is so good at addressing the issues. I can get Steelers/Penguins stuff all day long via national media outlets. The market is actually over-saturated with Steelers news. But without DK and some other good journalists in the region, the Pirates are reduced to being a punching bag by the likes of Jeff Passan, whose agenda is to use the Pirates as a pawn in the MLBPA's war with the owners. Kudos to DK. Keep these going.

Another reason to dislike Cherington. When he perpetuates improvement when there is none. Oh, and not firing Shelton for Tito, is another reason for the dislike.

Same. Individually there are a few players I want to see do well and have success but I don't wish success upon this regime. Not Cherington, not Shelton and certainly not Nutting. But I could live with Nutting and his cheapness IF he actually hired smart baseball-driven minds to run this team. We see teams be competitive with low payrolls like Tampa Bay like Baltimore like Cleveland. Unfortunately Nutting is cheap in EVERY facet and makes garbage hires who in-turn make garbage hires themselves and so on

I was agreeing with this episode until the last two minutes. I still can’t believe DK thinks Tomlin and the Steelers are “winners” when they haven’t come close to winning anything in basically 15 years now. They are losers and perpetual underachievers and they’re going to waste TJ Watt’s career the way they did Ben, Brown and Bell and Pouncey etc. Real winners don’t hold “going .500” as a mark of accomplishment or success. Pathetic losers who are used to and expect mediocrity do that, and that’s what the Steelers are. The truth is the penguins were the only franchise that cared about winning or success for the last two decades, that is until Mario forced out Rutherford and hired Hextall before selling the team to Boston ownership. Now we’ve gone from city of champs to city of chumps.
