I wish Franconia all the best!! Knew the family a little growing up in Beaver. Great guy!!!
He never would have taken the Pirates job and neither would I given the ownership.

Wnen the Detroit Tigers clinched their postseason berth in September, Detroit Tigers owner Chris Ilitch watched as the Tigers celebrated in front of 44,435 fans at Comerica Park.
"I'm so excited for Tiger fans," Ilitch said after their 4-1 win to secure their 2024 American League wild-card spot. "I mean, Tiger fans are the greatest fans. They're loyal fans, for years supporting this club. You saw it tonight. They came out in numbers. Tiger fans deserve this. I couldn't be more excited for our fans."
"I don't remember the exact game," Ilitch said, 'but after a while, it became apparent it wasn't just luck or happenstance that we were winning games. It was part of a plan and execution at a high level. At some point, as we evaluated what was happening from an organizational standpoint, you could see that things were working and falling into place."
Can you imagine Bob Nutting uttering those words? Can you imagine him showing that level of genuine and enthusiastic fan appreciation and saying that Pirate fans "deserve this" (i.e. a WINNING team that's finally making the playoffs for the first time in years)? Or that the team's success was part of a plan (an actual plan!) to execute at a high level?
Terry Francona is a winner, and the Reds are going to make a lot of noise in 2025. The Reds organization has been publicly transparent in recent days about its profound level of frustration after the team's poor 2024 season. It decided to immediately DO SOMETHING about it by jettisoning the manager, David Bell, despite the fact that the Reds players were "comfortable" playing for him (according to the players).
In very stark contrast, here are the words of a loser:
"We have to start playing better." -- Derek Shelton
And by the way: a well-known Pittsburgh sports reporter who covers the Pirates recently wrote that he knows Shelton well and that Shelton "is a very smart baseball man." If that's not a clear example of gaslighting, then I don’t know what is.

When the Reds blow by the Pirates, and make the playoffs, and become this years Tigers, then Cherington can just hide under his desk. Shelton couldn't manage wiffle ball. We need an owner who did what the Reds just did. Like the Rangers did. Bring in a WS winning manager.

That's why I said yesterday in my comments, this has to be elevated above the Pirates organization! Media publicity is a MUST! Bravo to the six who started this. It has to grow people!

DK, I believe there's a saying that "a picture says a thousand words" or something to that effect, you know I often comment about your thumbnail photos and BOY OH BOY does that Francona photo say a lot, like I said the day after he got hired, I BET WE NEVER EVEN CALLED TO INQUIRE! Its just sad because you just know not only he's gonna improve the team but free agents are gonna wanna to come to Cincinnati now! Thanks for all your great work sir! Well done 😎

work toward winning. In place like Pittsburgh. What is evidently the hellscape of professional sports. According to the Pirates.

People who say "we are working towards winning" about year SIX of a rebuild, a rebuild in which the minor league system is one of the worst in the sport, need to be fired ASAP.

Winners? We don't need no stinking winners! Every time we started winning, the team got scared and the wheels fell off. This team just is way more comfortable losing. No expectations then.

It's hard to believe Bob Nutting doesn't care about winning, DK. Didn't he even play whiffle ball as a kid? Touch football?

Sad, but Francona would not have come to Pittsburgh, which we understand why; but it's who we wanted ( under different leadership).

Those 6 are going to turn into hundreds, if not thousands. These 6 gentlemen need to post when they are out, so all the other disgruntled fans can join them.

8:27 here’s where you’re flat out wrong. Just because the fans have a responsibility to make it happen. Doesn’t mean reporters are completely off the hook and can’t do anything. Let’s stop pretending just putting reports out are enough and it’s up to everybody else. I won’t pretend it’s all up to you. You don’t pretend it’s all up to me sound good? It sounds like you want the fans to do the work. That doesn’t sound right does it? So don’t flip it. Especially when we both know it’s not true. We need you as much as we have to get to it!

You do it. We report it. That isn't wrong. That's how journalism's worked for hundreds of years. - Dejan
