Steam Stats Are WAY Stronger Than You Think | Devlog #16
That looks like a fun game.
thanks!
Some bugs are caused by chaotic gameplay, lol I've learned to always expect people to try to do everything they possibly can, even if it makes no sense to do so in the game, so when testing, act like you're crazy lol. Like that one pixel in the corner of your tutorial when pressed crashes the game or when rapid pressing buttons, sometimes the inputs are faster than the calculations and limitation blocks...
Love the little gameplay/future level tease at 1:54! 👀👀 I hate to admit cuz I know it caused you hours and hours of annoyance and work, but I LOL'd at the various bugs in town after the ceremony cut scene😅 Happy Holidays O. & Co.!
I was wondering if anyone would notice! Happy holidays :)
I think the gold standard when it comes to fixing bugs and adding quality of life features is Factorio. Every studio should take notes on how Wube handles all that stuff.
Legend say that if you tether ghast to another planet, to save your sister, and confront your nephew gone mad, you die peacefully 😢
huh?
@OandCoGames cough, the last jedi, cough
I wish game maker debugger could detect when a specific variable is changed, would save so much time fixing bugs.
The main reason why pixel art is still so popular is because it's an "Art of Freedom" for giving devs better time at doing everything else in the game Meanwhile there is an ever growing ULTRA realistic style that, even though looks hella cool, is: 1. Expensive 2. Hard 3. Very limiting in its nature And those stuff are the things indie devs should avoid when doing games
Am i the only one weirded out by that video about bugs not explaining how you fixed any of them? I feel this could be a good way to get into some of the more technical stuff and show how the tools you talked about actually help you debug the code daily (a subject a lot of programmers don't know about nowadays, unfortunately), especially since this is such a huge part of gamedev. I understand this is supposed to be a non-technical devlog, but it felt like i watched only the first part of a video about fixing bugs and it just stopped there. 🤔
lol yeah you're totally right. I should make a follow up video that gets into the technical aspects of it.
He should have returned with 7 cartons of milk.
For real though. "Get a carton if milk." (1 milk) "If they have eggs, get six." (+6 milks).
You should seek therapist at this point
This is great to see and very encouraging for someone to approach bugs in such a way. Thanks for sharing everyone!
2:54 that's me! Sorry Jordan for giving you headaches hahahhah
They're necessary lol
bug = a whole lot of print statements (a least that’s how I squish them)
lol for sure. I also have a debug mode where I draw variables directly to the screen during game play. I really should have a video on details about that, stepping through frames, using the debugger, etc.
bugs don't exists, it's just an interaction you never code, like if a+b has no result. 😅
Instructions unclear. I hired an exterminator and the guys that came had no idea what to do.
a spider is not a bug though
I see you were served thumbnail option B…
Colloquially
Always a good day when O and Co posts a new video!
4:07 the elder ring...
Never forget.
Love hearing about your process and seeing the incredible progress you guys are making on Tethergeist!
Just as deah and taxes are a constant in life, bugs are a constant in programming
This is gospel truth.
I’m the 12th viewer! Keep up the work!
Thanks for tuning in so early!
You bet!
I’ve been playing so much hollow knight that when I saw the word ‘bugs’ I immediately thought of hollow knight bugs, and didn’t realise it meant bugs as in glitches
bahaha, it's funny when I searched for "bugs in video games" Hollow Knight showed up way more than topics about glitches.
Xd
1:07 you are right! and i will help make it even more special in anyway i can !
You are a wonderful human being :)
@@OandCoGamesnot just human, a geist! 🔎👀
Played the DEMO for a whole day now, this is a sleeping giant <3 the look, music, atmosphere of the setting AND the gameplay mechanic is on the same track as Celeste! the track to our HEARTS! Tether Geist will be very important. thank you!
We sure hope you're right! It was awesome spending time with you on your stream!
@ pleasure 💙
Pixel is just a simple but effective way to express art. More like you can use the best out of 50x50 canvas
i thought splasher was a known platformer, it was design for speed running too.
I'll have to check it out!
Love this!
"I am Rae Allen" - Noah Allen
Lol that was intresting
AURORA was so the correct answer
What a crossover event!! Hey Eric 👋
JavaScript is going to be first class Citizen at gamemaker next year. plus GM suppers secret powers from DLL extensions you can create them at Visual Studio C#
wow this makes me feel great, I also choose GameMaker for my 2D game. I wish someday I will also be part of team like you :)
I don't know who you are but just from looking at the footage I love the idea of TetherGeist, it's really cool and creative yet stupidly simple and I'm excited to see where it goes
lol thank you. I love that phrase "stupidly simple." Seriously such a great way to capture some of our design approach lol.
@@OandCoGames Surprised you're replying to a comment on a video this old! My recommended feed took me here, and I decided to watch because I've been considering figuring out how to program to make a game of my own. Huge fan of this little mechanic! It's such an incredibly simple concept, yet it opens up so many cool possibilities for level design.
RDR 2 AND ELDEN RING IS BAD GLORY TO PIXEL ART 😊😊😊
Glory indeed!
Cheap and lazy.
Lol
This game looks so good. When it comes time to make the music and audio, consider hitting me up. Would love to work on this. Cheers,
the mushroom part is quite hard bro 😂
Yeah we’re going to fix that soon lol
Speaking of games with magnets, I had an idea for a game that is influenced by Bionic Commando. It's a game where you play as a robot with a magnet arm, in which you can use attraction to grab, switch and latch onto things, while repulsion can be used to throw things or as an impulse weapon. The setting would have a weird Y2K sci-fi esthetic to it, to give it a sort of eerie corporate future feel. Unfortunately, I don't have the time, dedication, knowledge and money to bring this creation to life. But if someone is reading this and are intrigued by this idea, I will give them permission to make it, just as long as they give me credit for the idea. As for this game: Yes, it looks like a fun if simple puzzle game. I was recommended it from Steam based on my purchase history and that's what led me to this video.
Congrats on the Kickstarter! The game looks amazing, I'll be keeping an eye on this one!
I have been binging your devlogs since last few days and it has been amazing to see your progress over time. Hope that there isn't too much mandatory content such that the game might become a chore. I believe in "less is more" philosophy. Hopefully you will take this into account. Still the game looks promising and wish you the best.
Your game is visually overwhelming. There is no focal point, not even with the character. Everything is in focus and saturated to the same degree.
Okay
What makes you that? It seems pretty well balanced, with the player and obstacles being the focal point.
Love the art!!
Congratulations, guys! I love your project and I can't wait to play the game! I also love the lo-fi chapter 1 soundtrack playlist. Are more lo-fi playlists for the following chapters coming out soon?
Until Then is pixel art game but takes it to next level with 3d lights and background blur to give scene depth. I think that style would suit your game well
So happy for your guys, been following your journey from quite some time and at this point, this feels like my own accomplishment haha. Don't forget to take some time and cut some cake to celebrate and enjoy your week. You guys very well deserve it! 🚀🚀
We’ll save a slice for you 😉
I can’t wait for this! I’ll be honest, I never play platformers, but this one actually looks awesome! Congrats on your kickstarter success, and I hope to play soon. Really excited for the story stuff since that’s why I play video games.
First campaign I've ever pledged to and could not be happier for you guys!
You are the people’s hero!!
dude, it costs like 30k just to port a game to a console, at least that's what John from Biogun was saying. How are you going to port it to Xbox with only 20K? John didn't have a good experience with his publisher, but thankfully he got the rights back to his game. I wish you guys the best, good luck.
It depends on the complexity of the game. A 2D platformer like TetherGeist built in an engine that supports exporting for multiple platforms will be easier than other titles. I assume that 30K is factoring in paying developers for the hours as well - which is something our team can allocate our own hours to. Still will be a heavy lift, but we’re optimistic.
your game idea is so genius. that looks soooo fun id play it forever
Awe shucks, thank you!
Congrats on the kickstarter! I played the game at Pax west this year and it was my highlight of the whole event. Excited to see this releasing some time, definitely highly anticipated.
Holy moly that's high praise! Thank you!
