It's Time to Toss the Synthetic Fabrics [Wearing BPA, PFOA, and more!]
It's time to toss the synthetic fabrics. Today I will share the latest steps I have taken with my family to reduce our toxic exposure and surround ourselves with fabrics that are comfortable, healthy, and good for our bodies.
The chemicals in synthetic fabrics include BPA, PFOA, formaldehyde, and more. They are known to cause cancer, and reproductive issues in both men and women. Other health conditions that these chemicals have been linked to include thyroid dysfunction, asthma, skin irritation, and more.
The first stop on our fabric detox is removing all the polyester sheets. We spend 1/3 of our lives in bed, blankets up around the face, and covering the body, so this was a must for us. A couple of the kids already had one set of cotton sheets, but the bulk of their bedding was polyester. I landed on an organic cotton set for each from Amazon. They are extremely comfortable, with a decent price point, coming in many colors. They also added an extra layer of peace for me, with the organic seal.
You can shop for them here:

(The above and below links are commissioned through Amazon or Reward Style. I do receive a portion of each sale, although there is no price increase to you. Thank you to everyone who shops with me!)
Next, we focused on removing all clothing 50% or higher in polyester. As we bring in new items, we will make sure they are made from natural fibers, but this was a great jumping-off point for getting started and a very efficient way to minimize my wardrobe. The items that I lean toward now are cotton and linen. While many are thrited, I will link a few below that I love.

I also love to shop with Thred Up for second-hand clothing! If you're new to them, use this link to take advantage of 45% off your first order plus free shipping. (Offer subject to change) To find dresses similar to what I picked up at the garage sale, search Universal Thread!

I have recently transitioned most denim to Levi's and I love these 100% cotton, but size up. Full cotton doesn't give like I was used to in my previous jeans.

    It actually goes deeper than the chemicals! This aspect is Electric Charges like Static.... Our bodies run on Electrics. We "Need" to be at a Specific Charge and PH. Combo Fabrics Cause Static, which Throws Off our Internal Charge. Then Sickness (Malfunction) can occur. Going to bed in Polester, Nylon and Polyester/Cotton guarantees this Static Charge Alteration. Even IF your bedding is Cotton? The nightie of Nylon WILL Cause the Charge Change! The bed and Sleep Cycles are a Clean/Rebuild Time. Repairs TO each System, happens AT Specific Times. But? We are trying to Do this IN the Wrong Electric Charge!! You are on the right Path!! Bravo! ❤

Home cooking from scratch is wonderful. 1 the food/meal tastes better. 2 there are not all the preservatives and other chemicals that no one can pronounce in them. 3 less money in the long run. 4 teaches children a life skill. Now we have switched to the simply good and beautiful math. For him it works fine. I choose it because it is free to download. It is simple and fun, not overwhelming, good for those who are advanced for their age but not too advanced for busy work

    I love the idea of this video and it's content however poor people don't have a lovely large space they have to store items, the expensive kitchenware and electrical equipment utilized and the bulk ingredients bought to actively do these tips and the time afforded to do them. So, it seems, this is not realistically aimed for poor people per say but rather people who are affluent and want to be thrifty. I do appreciate the ideas though and I'm sure that some of these concepts can be used for a person that does not have all of the time and conveniences seen in this video. I agree, buying convenience food that is repacked is expensive and usually unhealthy so finding healthier alternatives is a must to maintain a healthy household.

      Others have had similar comments while still more have replied about how this is the only way a poor family came eat well in today’s economy. You don’t need a huge space to store food, and 90% of my kitchen items are thrifted or were hugely discounted. I like to suggest for people take stock of storage spaces under beds or in hall closets. If those don’t work, I’ve seen many put extra shelving in a bedroom or a corner of the kitchen. We all have choices. Paying high prices is one of them.

    I don't know anyone who spends 1600 a month, the department of labor reports the average American family spends 475 dollars a month. I spend about 95 dollars a week for my family of four with basic fruits veggies and one or two small packs of meat.

    • @thehometownhomestead
      @thehometownhomestead 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are adjustments for family size. My family has 7, and we admittedly eat items that are expensive in our budget, like focusing on mainly organic (from grains to fruits and vegetables), and very high quality meats. While some say this is plenty, others have said it’s unattainable. We’re actually not that far off when you take both expenses per person. I do spend more, but it’s less than $150/ month when adjusted for family size. Mine also includes organic body products, in addition to the food, and even some clothing purchased from Sam’s and Walmart that I didn’t subtract off of our receipt for ease of math. I could absolutely do it cheaper, but I don’t have to because of the way I’ve trained myself to purchase. While many are doing well with their grocery spending, yourself included, others are blowing both of our budgets out of the water. My goal is to help them. If you can add any tips on how you keep yours even lower, please do. I find the comment sections a wealth of information. Thanks for watching, I hope to see you back soon.

    I love seeing you let the kids help. I always let mine help. Not only did we create memories you’re teaching them self sufficiency. When mine moved out they were able to cook for themselves. My son moved into a large house he shared with 6 others. No one else in the house knew how to meal plan, grocery shop or cook. They were amazed he knew these things and would complain about their high food costs. They all ordered 95% of their food from door dash, spending an average of $35 per trip. Sometimes twice a day. No idea how people afford to do this, but I guess hunger wins. My son spent less on his monthly meals, 3 meals a day, then they spent weekly on 2 meals a day. He actually came to me and thanked me for teaching him how to do these things and allowing him to be part of the process. Made my momma heart happy. Not only do we both have great memories, he is able to take care of himself , which is one of our jobs as parents, to raise self sufficient able bodied adults that know how to function in this world!

    I love all you do, to feed your family well! It does make me think though, I am glad I had a small family. I had 2 daughters, with 20 years between them. In one way it was silly of me, to have another and Start the Mother Mode, all over again! But in the consideration of the amount of food and work required, for a larger one? It is a blessing. Right after my youngest was born, about 3 years? My daughter had her first son. She lived with us, still, so Baby Mode and bedroom shifting occurred also. My room became hers and I went into basement. They moved out when he was 8 months, to a city about 45 minutes drive from us. BUT Doctoring and Banking was still in our little town. I AM the Driver. So I spent hours per week, shuttling them and having them stay over for at least one night. So cooking etc became my job, often. Now? I cook for ME. Only me. So it happens about once a week. I have a crippled leg and I can't DO large days of anything! 2hr spans, like in Canning, pushes my leg and body too hard. Then I can cook. Lol Considering it is my resposibility TO Do all yard work, etc? I cannot cause my leg excess injury. Life Changes SO many things, doesn't it?!? ❤

      Sounds like you’re super involved with your family still, which is such a blessing. Both my mom, and mother-in-law are exceptionally generous with us and help when we need them too. The kids LOVE spending time with them both. Thanks for watching, and make sure to listen to your body, because you’re correct about overworking! It’s definitely not worth it. 🙌🏻

    Great ideas. We always make a hot breakfast every morning. I’m always looking for new ideas! I’ve not tried bagels yet… going to soon. My kitchenaide just died on me… so I am going to save up and get the mixer of my dreams… had one years ago and drove it into the grave…. You are the only other person I’ve seen use that kind of mixer. They are amazing! As a side note I will make bread and sprinkle cinnamon sugar on it like cinnamon rolls. Add cinnamon chips then roll it up into a loaf. Cinnamon chip bread… my kids love it.

      Sometimes people sell “gently” used Anks on the community group in FB. Also they sell them open box sometimes. It’s a beast, but the time saved by being able to do multiple batches at once is worth it to me. I’ve had it for about 18 months, and I can’t do back. Bagels, just like everything else, are easier than I made them out to be in my head. Once you try them, you’ll have to share your thoughts! Thanks for watching!

    Just a tip for the tortillas. If those are flour which I’m pretty sure they were. You do not use a tortilla press for flour tortillas. I see it being used incorrectly quite often. It’s only for corn tortillas. ❤️

    Lint is gross? It’s just broken cloth fibers. From cleaned items that you later put on your body or dry your face with.

    • @thehometownhomestead
      @thehometownhomestead 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I never spend more than 15 min. I have 2 other kids in various levels, so we keep it pretty tight. You could play the games longer if you’d like, but we rarely did for the sake of keeping things moving along.

    • @joycehampton4656

      So 15 minutes for the lesson and a game ? Or 15 for game. And 15 for the teaching part? Sorry confused- we have been using right start level d. We have 20 lessons to finish. She will be in 4th grade.
