Such a great interview! I absolutely love math with confidence. I was one who thought it was teacher intensive at first but, after highlighting the scripted part, it made it so easy for me to execute the lessons and has been a game changer. Also putting all the math manipulatives in a basket has also been game changing. I’m rooting for you Kate to make middle school and high school level math. lol I’m also rooting for you to make video lessons. lol 😅 thank you for making this program!
I think we’re all rooting for her to keep on pushing up the ladder, but I’m sure she’s ready for a much needed break!
Thank you! We love MWC! My sons thought it was amazing to see "Mrs. Snow" on the screen while I was prepping dinner. Apparently she's a celebrity at our house now! A celebrity hero for making us love math at our house!
I listen to podcast/YT while I prep dinner also!
She’s a celebrity here too! Fun for the kids to see the author and make the connections.
Thanks for watching! Hope to see you back soon!
So grateful we found MWC & Kate! ❤️ we’re halfway through Kindergarten & just love it ❤️❤️❤️ MWC through the end!
I will keep asking about Kate writing past 6th grade! There is a need for more math like what Kate does
I completely agree!
I'm so thankful we discovered this curriculum. We've tried two other math companies, but keep coming back to MwC. I'm also glad we're a few years "behind" the new grade levels coming out so we can start from the beginning and keep going all the way through!
I appreciate this and so enjoyed watching! We love MWC. We’ve used it since the beginning K-3. I thoroughly enjoy listening to Kate talk math! Looking forward to 4th grade math.
Thank you for the kind words! It was a treat to get to talk to her for sure!
Awesome! We are MWC fans. I love to hear the direction of future levels.
I can say other curriculums that say level instead of grade didn’t make a difference for my children. They still ask why the “level” doesn’t match their supposed grade.
We are wrapping up first grade and have tried several programs but my little one loves MWC. I am learning so much too!
So looking forward to this video 👍
Great idea about separating the worksheet.
Thank you thank you. I use 1st and 2nd for my kids and am loving it. I love the scripted teacher guide that i can follow (since im not math minded) but you can alter it if you are math minded if the script bothers you. I have learned so much about why certain things work in math instead of just having it memorized how i had to as a kid. Sooo helpful!!!
I AM math minded, but my 5th grader is tackling equations in his brain that I’m writing out of paper to check. 😳
He’s multiplying and simplifying fractions with different denominators without putting his pencil to paper until he has the answer.
While I’m grateful that he has built these skills with Kates direction, we not have the “show your work” fight!
So glad you’re enjoying the program, and thanks for watching! Let me know if you have questions!
Thank you so much for this video. I love your system. We have a similar system as well. We do school as well M-TH and Friday is a game day for my girls. It is so easy that way. That is my daughters reward for achieving the school during the week. I think by doing something like that kids tend to be more successful when it comes to anything. My youngest will be doing the 4TH level for this school year. Can't wait!!😀
We jumped into the pilot in 4th, and it was amazing! You will love it!
Thanks for watching, and good luck in your coming school year!
I meant to watch this video eons ago. I haven’t used the grade level programs, just the Math Facts that Stick series. We love those resources. This was a great interview! It was very insightful to see the philosophy behind the program.
So glad you enjoyed it. It’s been a true gift to many families.
We have been loving MWC 2. Previously, I used Singapore for multiple years with an older child and it was so difficult to teach. One thing I Love is that MWC is scripted!! It takes the guess work out of teaching. We plan to go onto MWC 3.
I love the ease of the program also. ANYONE can teach MwC.
Thanks for watching, and I’m happy that you found something that works for your family!
OMG, dice! How have I not thought to get our DND dice out for the games?
Thank you for all the information!
You’re welcome! I’m glad it helped!
I am using right start math level d with 18 lessons to go. I feel as if she is missing something. The lessons seem to take so long but have gotten quicker the last few months. I am considering the 4 th grade to help review and maybe learn a few different ways to doing things . Right start encourages mental math and games. Wondering how this compares to right start?
Right start ends about 7 grade (in level g.). If I do MWC this year and 5 th grade isn’t out I could return to RS IN LEVEL E and finish in 8 and be ready for algebra in 9th. I would like any input or tips ? Thanks
I have a question about your use of timers….. what if they drag their feet so much and don’t really accomplish a lesson at all when the time is up? If they know you’ll just stop…. Do you still just stop? Do you finish the next day? Does it throw you off? Or have your kids just been motivated by it? I have one that just hasn’t been motivated much by timers in the past or the timer causes anxiety and he can’t focus.
If I tell them something will happen, I always stick to my word. That said, you will have to find their currency. If this child isn’t motivated by timers, I would take away anything that’s “fun” if math isn’t completed. No tech time, no fun projects. I would explain that my job is to get them ready for their adult life, and as an adult we don’t only get to do what we want, or even spread something out as long as we’d like. There are timelines, and math is going to help us learn this new skill.
I do understand that there is struggle, and if they are TRYING and not being successful, that’s a different story than completely not trying to work at a decent pace. Sometimes they don’t know how long things should take, and that’s the problem. Other times, they don’t think it’s necessary. That’s when there are consequences for me.
As for the next day, yes. We can pick it back up with a fresh start, but at my house, the lack of fun/reward time would quickly remedy the timing issue.
Which curriculum would be best after 6th grade MWC or at least compatible to "graduate" from MWC series?
The students should be ready for pre-algebra, but Kate doesn’t have an updated recommendation at this point. She has suggested some in the past, but hasn’t looked at any new options in awhile, so nothing new there to report.
We have discovered Dennison Algebra and my math hating child is really enjoying it. It is now the first subject she does now.
Is the number of lessons per year going to increase with fourth and subsequent levels?
4th and 3rd have the same number of lessons. 5th is yet to be determined. She asks feedback on if we think certain lessons need split or combined. I do think the over all length will be close.
Third and fourth grade both have 144 lessons. I hope to keep fifth and sixth grade at the same number of lessons or fewer.
We are finishing up 3rd grade. I had no idea that 4th grade wasn’t available yet.
Can’t wait till it comes out.
Next year at this time 5th will be releasing. You’re right on track!
I'm just over here in denial that this beautiful program will end at 6th grade - it's such a blessing!
You and me both! I’m also in denial that I’ll need 6th grade math for my first born next year!
Where does the time go?
