Breakages & The Unprepared - Outback Australian Workshop at Mt Dare
FREE GUIDES & HEMA MAPS FOR SALE ON OUR WEBSITE - www.lapsofmaps.au/
Expect the unexpected in the desert. We revisit our second home at the Mt Dare Hotel. This time, we helped out the workshop for 2 weeks during the busy Finke Desert Race of 2024.
Did we fix your car and try to get you out of trouble? There were many more recoveries and broken vehicles that did not come through the workshop!
We experienced rainfall, closed roads, the first State of Origin game (just) and muddy broken cars.
The Mt Dare Hotel is in Outback South Australia on the western edge of the Simpson Desert. Experience it for yourself. Dare to Prepare.

G'Day first time watcher of your adventures......... I have seen other programs that featured stopovers at Mt Dare, but this was fantastic to experience a behind-the-scenes at Mt Dare. What a lifestyle to be out there. Bloody fantastic!! You know so many Aussies venture offshore to experience other countries. Yet they would not have a bloody idea of their own backyard. Fellow Aussie get out there and experience Australia .... And suck the guts out life..

Definitely be in any remote workshops interest to have a few cheap cruuser/ Hilux/prado etc carcasses lieing around space permitting for spares that may not be readily sourced asap. May be the difference between being back on the road asap or stranded indefinitely til the parts arrive. How it was done BITD and got many a motorist out of trouble and BOTR. You guys rock BTW.

it amazes me the failures and damage caused by after market parts. LOVED the show. last time i was at Mount Dare there was a mice plague ! very interesting trying to sleep with hundreds of mice crawling literally over you all night. The Mount Dare cat was pretty fat and happy though

Thanks for a good honest review of the not so fun times traveling, i laughed so much and i almost cried laughing at the diesel heater, not due to your miss fortunes but i can relate so much to almost all them experiences, and you are 100% right at the time things feel like they cant get any worse! But as time passes you look back and laugh, 6 years on from our trip(wife 3 kids and i) something will trigger our memory and we will make a little one liner joke that takes us back! 😂😂

If you dip the oil on my 1HDFTE after it has been going it will be off the stick. Check it tomorrow before you start it, it is perfect. It doesn’t use oil, never has in its 300,000 km, 10 litres comes out of it every time. The bloke who broke his chassis found out the hard way that airbags are not designed to overcome overloading. The springs were probably perfect because they had no weight on them. I would never blow an air filter out, you are very likely to blow a hole in it. A diesel will start to run hot when the filter is getting clogged. Good show, you got a lot of people out of trouble in a very remote location. Jeff.

Most common thing I noticed in this video... Only much newer vehicles all breaking. Not seeing strong 1980-1990 4x4s there. Cars arent built like they used to be. Cruisers in Australia are massively overpriced, I work in a mine and they buy them for $36,000 from Dubai. Literal only difference is left hand drive. So Aussies overpay close to $60,000 on cruisers
