Yep, been on an 85 for about a year now, and getting pretty good on it. It's heaps of fun doing more A-grade and enduro sections now!

Cheers! You should try to get to the next one, it's quite a cool ride. About 8 weeks for the tendon to heal according to the specialist. Luck there's not much riding on over Christmas 😁

I use a GoPro Hero 9 mounted under my helmet peak, with a power-bank battery in my backpack connected via the USB port to give it enough battery life to last the day.

Awesome, great to hear you've been inspired by our videos to get out trail riding. I've met a few people now that have said the same thing which is very cool. We have a bit going on up here in Nelson, so doubt we will make it to Fairlie, but we should be at the Omihi ride on 9th Nov, Borlase trail ride here in Nelson on the 17th, and the Amuri Area School Craig Pickering Memorial Trailride near Culverden on Dec 8th.

Check out the Christchurch Off-Road Motorcycle club, South Canterbury Motorcycle club and North Canterbury motorcycle club. All run good MX events around Christchurch. The Nelson Motorcycle Club has a supercross at the Rat Track in December.

Is this open like main mx loop?

I think they are planning on having the trail loop open whenever the MX track has an open day. You could ride ether either or both on the weekend.

@@bentowse sic I was thier in June on a open day for look in my ute while visiting a cob in Havelock,I'm definitely Gona bring the ktms up next time.. Good video too Ben.

Keep an eye on the Facebook pages of Nelson Motorcycle Club, Marlborough Motorcycle Club, Ando's Dirtbike events and Adventure Trailride events. That should cover most of the rides in the top of the South Island.

It was a bit of a mess on that hill at the start because of all the initial traffic, but it cleared out after the first lap and for the rest of the day you could just fly up it. My brother has done an adventure bike ride around South Africa and enjoyed it. His photos looked awesome.

🤣 thankfully the XC-F only has a plastic number board! If I was riding an EXC-F that would have been the end of the headlight and the dash!

Yes it was! One of our favourites and we will definitely be back next year.

A bit of rain always adds to the difficulty / fun level of a ride. This ride also has quite a bit more single track through the trees with some trickier spots, although Grenville does a great job of making a novice and kids bypass for the harder bits so that the course suits everyone. You can see a novice bypass at 39:27 and 41:34. The muddy uphill at 46:05 was the one part that I don't think couldn't be bypassed and people seemed to find the hardest.

Thanks Hamish! I was quite surprised at how far ahead he was at this one. Normally I can match his pace, but maybe not anymore 😁. I just watched some of your videos and noticed that at this ride I had the exact same crash into exactly the same tree as you at 11:45 ! 🤣

@joezapr0 Its a big wheel. We did run small wheels for a little bit, but found the big wheels better for rolling over stuff, and plus he's pretty tall for his age so can stand flat footed even with the big wheels.

Great to hear my videos have spurred your interest in riding. The best beginner bike will depend on a lot of factors including your age and weight, but assuming teen / adult you could look at KLX140, TTR125, TTR230, CRF150, CRF230 etc. Best be would be to head to a local bike shop for a look and to sit on some bikes to get an idea of size and get some advice from them.

@@bentowse Thank you for replying! yea I'm a adult but small (5'5'' - 5'7'') I will try to go to a local bike dealer sometime to see what would fit me the best and advice. I've also looked into some of the bikes you have listed some of them looks like they will fit me. Again Great Vid! Look foward to more! :)

@@gurd158 id would suggest a ktm 230 exc 4 stroke its ok for a beginner has the correct power you,l need and ya maybe pop along to your local bike shop with questions they're quiet helpful in many fields when it comes to off road bikes and what to buy.

Thanks! It's a very cool trail, although I bet it's warmer there in Maui, it was only about 8°C here! (about 46°F )

He's definitely getting faster, and not just a little bit on this ride - he got back 15 minutes before me! I did disadvantage myself a bit running a very worn front tyre which made it tricky in the mud, but still...

Aye Ben ya i noticed you had a wipe out it does certainly delay ones ride when it happens. Yol that is quick 15mins before u. Well enjoy i was out riding on Saturday afternoon in our local forest some good tech sections but great.
