Losing face.. is like being embarrassed by own actions. the bottom line is the word "face", it's basically referring to appearance due to facial expression, outfitting and some extends. My experience told me "How one looks to others" or impression weighs hugely when Chinese people socialize. So they play a lot about how to make themselves look impressive and sometimes help others look impressive.

I myself a Chinese man, but I was not born in China and have lived in the Western world most of my life. See, in china, the little emperor syndrome, you're talking about most of the middle class or the upper class family in big cities like beijing or shanghai. Often, these kids are spoiled and overly indulged and that they never be expected to take responsibility or face harsh time at any age. But in rural area, in lots of poor family, they wouldnt spoil their children like that and in a way, some would mistreat and be cruel to their children, child abuse. So you can see the extreme in mainland china.and when these kids grow up, if they can cope, they could have other children and do the same but if these kids cant cope like especially the one with mental disorder or special need, they rather to just get married or have no children or just stay single.

I think the language barrier would be the most major obstacle. Even if I struggle, I want to learn his language and try to get to a higher level of fluency.
