    What is your opinion on the rios twins. They say machine exercises are just trash when it comes to improving athleticism, not like that I do any machine work. I am just curious to know. What is your opinion on burpees for conditioning. Btw nice video, you're really underrated. Is just doing weighted ab rollouts enough for the abs excluding the obliques( I do separated work for them).

    This is a great channel and has been helping me to structure my MMA/S&C as I find it an easy topic to overthink. I know there's no 'Optimal' way to train but what are your thoughts on the following: I'm currently going to try 2 full body days (using ideas from your videos) with 1 optional day to hit accessory movements for injury prevention/hypertrophy etc depending on fatigue. I was doing a 4 day upper/lower but it can be quite taxing doing this with 2 hours of MMA on top of it and take the focus away from fighting/conditioning. I've also seen you tend to prefer the 2 day full body approach for fighters.

It'd also be good to know how to work out percentages/how hard a lift should feel as I find it a complicated topic. Just an idea - keep up the great work this channels a hidden gem!

    I hate zone 2 cardio, so boring What i do nowadays is modification of 4x4 norwegian interval training I do 5 min ON, 3 min OFF on airbike, but instead of steady state, i do 5 seconds sprint, 10 seconds coasting. This allows me to stay at 95% HRM. The best thing using air bike is how easy i can adjust the resting time. On the second round, i can't maintain 1:2 work rest ratio, so i just increase rest time to 1:3 just by adding 5 seconds of coasting Air bike also trains overcoming inertia, very useful in basketball because of lots of acceleration I don't get out of gassed anymore when playing basketball. My goal is 4 rounds of 5 min on, 3 min off. Currently only doing 2 rounds, but i already gained tremendous improvement on my cardio

    Just a quick question about your gains...You mentioned that you didn't do ANY other training except the flywheel squats (one session for speed and one for strength). If that is correct, then.... Could it be that you saw such good gains, because you got rid of lingering fatigue that you accumulated in the weeks prior? Or worded differently.... Did the reduction in your training volume lead to those gains?

      Wouldn't say I had ant residual fatigue. Training volume wasn't much higher (training time has been reduced with our 1 year old currently)

    What are your take on barefoot lifting for fighters normally fighting barefooted? Seems like someone like Phil Daru is an advocate for it, and i can see, on the surface at least, it makes some sense.

      Used to do all my lifting barefoot. Great if you have no flat soled shoes. Obviously lift dependent as you're not gonna power clean barefoot. But if you've got the ankle mobility doing your squats etc I believe is a good idea. Cushiony running shoes aren't great options for lower body lifting. Would also not go straight to plyometric training barefoot

      Yea way too many variables to give a definitive answer. But more extensive throwing and jumping combinations. Continue on the full body exercises. Probably some form or heavier bilateral lower body with some form of vertical pushing/pulling

    Great podcast, what's your thoughts on the different adaptations brought on centrally by zone 2 though? Such as the eccentric hypertrophy of the heart. Would the shorter intervals not give you enough time to get them adaptations as the heart will be pumping at much higher heart rates. I'm always intrigued how old school boxing and Thai style training regimes still bring on huge levels of fitness despite no specific intervals per say.

      Yea its a great point around central adaptations. We still get them through longer intervals and zone 2 may not be the best way to go about it (Evan Peikons episode touches on this). That said, most fighters are likely not centrally limited so adding more zone 2 as an example may be a less effective way of preparing for a fight even though you're still promoting some form of peripheral adaptation but not to the extent of higher intensity training. Should be bringing Evan and Andrew Usher back on the pod in a few weeks to discuss more 💪

    Floor press is better for mma incase your on the floor in the octagon. It’s more sport specific. I’m guessing they’re near the end of the phase of training before a fight.

      @@sweetscienceoffighting yeah i've been wondering about what I could do with attachments on a barbell. Inspired by the Kensui Swissies V2 max. But the pinch block and its variants are the best thing I found beside the swissies themselves. A couple more options on the landmine that are worth it though. Got a question : do you have any book coming up? I gladly would purchase it. Already bought a program to get a good grasp on what you preach and to support you.

      Lactic acid resistance is not a real thing, lactic acid is not a problem, vo2max doesn't predict performance. Check out the podcast and conditioning videos are coming

    Just as a note, I wear a small towel on my head then place the harness over that, covering my ears as well and I get a smooth friction through the exercise. THe chains glide over the towel and my ears.

    I'm bot sure if you already have a video on this since I'm a fairly new fan but I was wondering if you had a video on leg workouts for mma fighters to develop power and endurance? (Btw i absolutely love the science and research behind each of your videos)

      Not specifically a workout video but my MMA strength training video goes into detail. I'd also checkout my off-season wrestling strength training video as that has an actual workout in it. What do you want to see in particular as I can do a video on the topic. Always looking for new things to film based on what people wanna see!

      @@sweetscienceoffighting Well my personal style is focused more on using footwork to move around a lot and then exploding in with fast and heavy combos so if at all possible anything around increasing explosiveness in the legs or increasing muscular endurance would be amazing, I'll also make sure to check out those videos you recommended. Once again I absolutely love your work and the research you put into it.
