That looks absolutely incredible. WOW.. I can only imagine the work that went into that. Damn.
Look at the copper washers. Engine is great
One of the best engines the Uk ever produced imho, - it’s all short stroke rev happy plastic crap now
Hello danny
That is a fantastic job. I appreciate what a technical engine they are. They have 2 cam shain assemblies, you never hear of them streching👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
What Place in Florida? I live here in Florida and am Looking at 2 XJ6 currently. One a 1983 xj6 BRGreen . And the other a newer 1997 xj6 .
For a 1975 XJ6C, what are easy ways to boost power and increase fuel economy? My goal is 280-300 hp. Anyone increased compression with the 9:1 pistons? Added fuel injection? Or is it better to take another Jag and swap in the engine, FI, rear end, etc.? What are good engine swaps? I'd prefer to stick with Jag engines. Ok, now to look for XJ6 dropped spindles
I was hoping for step by step video of the actual work.
Very , very , nice !!
Hello Dan, I have a 76 Jag XJ6. I was wondering if I can get a helpful pointer on the engine. How can I reach you? Phil Los Angeles
Would this be the same as a 1975 mg midget 1500 rebuild. Or would there be to many changes to be relevant?
Dan, I have the same car. Having trouble locating the voltage regulator. Any tips please?
voltage regulator is built into the Alternator.
One should never test oil pump tolerances without an IPA close to hand .... just in case!
later IV and 1500s have the cam ride in the block directly,no bearings.
Hi Dan, Could you kindly advise what spray did you use to protect your engine/gearbox after your have blasted these two big parts? I have a friends that does blasting, but I am not sure what colour and what brand of the spray I should use to give my engine a nice fresh look like yours? Many thanks for your help, Marvin
Looks great but with Jags they are leakers and does this one still leak?
why its have a tapping noise ?
Impressive!
Always best to take the head to a shop when getting new valves installed. The force needed to install the guide usually mushrooms it slightly ( usually only noticeable with a telescopic gauge and mic ) due to the guide being made from a soft metal. So having the guide reemed out 100% plumb is always the safe option to avoid the valve moving out of plumb. At least this is what I was told.
Very nice...XK engine is a nice bit of kit and they look great all cleaned up. Great work.
RCBM thanks mate I appreciate your interest and viewing my video cheers
Your UK accent and the steering wheel position initially cause confusion. Then I thought you'd brought the car in from the Continent only to discover you're in North America somewhere. Seat is undo squab screws at leading edge, pull up and out of car, remove trim, repair and replace. Yeah, that's a straightforward fix. Nice car, good luck with it.
valves 5 & 6 tend to get loose like that since they are the only 2 exhaust valves that are right next to each other so they run hotter. I just did a rebuild on mine, if you are in US you can send your cam to Delta and get a welded regrind done, i also did flat top pistons as mine had dished. Cool vid. OD trans will be nice. Headers are a pain, mine is one piece also, I see they make 2 piece headers now, Id get one of those if I was getting one. I do have an mg midget tho, so diff car body but same engine.
Had mine done at local machine shop cost 300 for seats and valves
i have one its the same where do you get the new parts
can you please tell me which way to loosen the crankshaft nut on a "76 triumph spitfire ?
anti clockwise mate if you have a impact gun that will make job easy. let me know how you get on harbor freight has six sided big sockets
thank you The Sawyer, I was able to loosen it up that way. and you are right, I found the socket at that place. but now I have new problem the camshaft got stuck to the block, they ran the engine low in oil.
Aurelio Tovar is your engine a 1500 ? There were no bearings in 1500 see if you can soak it in diesel or heat the block up with propane torch.make sure you take the two bolts of and the keeper that keeps in cam shaft. Where you located?
can you please tell me which way to loosen crankshaft nut ?
Amazing job sir. It looks and sounds great! My father had a 1987 Jaguar XJ6 series III painted in Arctic Blue. It was such a Gorgeous car.
Thanks Anthony, the xj6 is still running strong need to fix up interior seats. Getting a little ripped from old age. Have you seen Harry's garage video on his XJC 12 ? It's on TH-cam thanks for watching.
Awesome great messaging you. No I haven't but will check it out. My last jaguar was a 2003 S-type R. The car was so fast and gorgeous. I have a 2012 Camaro 2SS with the 6.2 liter painted in Rally yellow. The car has 416 hp with the K&N filter.
That's a lot of power mate. Hope you got some good brakes and a parachute lol
Lol I know right :-)
Did this car ever live again?
Yes been running now for over 2 years. Thanks for posting Steve I'll make another video soon
TheSawyer10702 the valve seats look nasty it might need new valves or they need be lapped.
TheSawyer10702 Also make sure the coolant is clean and not dirty.
TheSawyer10702 You should bring the cylinder head to a shop have them check it for warps or cracks. If it is damaged after they check it either have them repair it or replace it with a new one. Because if that head is bad and you just slap a gasket onto it your going to half same problem again. Also I recommend find out what caused it to blow a head gasket so it does not do it again. Some engine just blow head gaskets because of poor engine design or a problem with the cooling system can cause a head gasket to blow. I would also check the fan make sure it is kicking on and check the thermostat and water pump so it does not blow a head gasket again.
Crack can be repaired depending on depth, water jacket undamaged.
Pressure test head first, if ok skim head, head bolts once removed can be a problem to screw back into block as debris tends to fall into thread , air compressor will clear this usually, us guide bolts to refit head.
my jag V8 sport needs this but I have no idea nor tools to do so
You can buy a basic tool set at Sears for around $200. And also there are manuals to use for all cars, and also a lot of video here on TH-cam and also jag lovers.org has lots of questions and answers from subscribers so ther you go a good place and things to start with. And good luck any questions shoot them my way I will lead you in the right direction cheers thanks for watching my videos
How much did the engine rebuild cost you? I'm comparing the cost of a recently restored one to actually doing it myself as a project. Thanks :)
Hello it cost me about 750.00$ for rebuild thou did all work including rebuilding the head at machine shop which was 250.00 buy a good oil pump made in UK don't use China parts. Use felpro head set. With arp head bolts from summit racing Nevada. Give me a nudge if you got any questions cheers mate thanks for watching.
Thanks! I plan on buying one in the next year or so, seems like a great fun car for a good price and seems pretty reliable too. win, win and win! Appreciate the reply!
Alex, I dont want to be too negative, but I wouldn't say too reliable, haha, I have had a lot more repairs on my UK car vs our muscle cars, BUT if you have time and patience it can be made much more reliable. As Sawyer said, get a UK oil pump, clearance on the Chinese pumps is hit and miss. Sawyer are running stock ignition? Mine died right after purchase and I went with a crane optical setup, has been good for awhile now.
Hey thanks for watching I'm still using Lucas electronic ignition but it's really a gm module at orileys for 16 bucks . Was running good but had engine problem wrist pin clip let go on one of the Pistons scored block waiting for block.
Love to see this beautiful clean engine and compartment. Hope you are finished and driving around. Once a year I borrow my dads sovereign for a week or so for my daily commute, Love this car. Just don't look at the fuel gauge...
yes it's been finished did you see my video of it running few weeks after that video I got the car smog test past with flying colors it's been on road done about 20000 miles since.im having seats done with new upholstery and new cushions. thanks for watching cheers you in USA?
+TheSawyer10702 I found the video, well done! Super beautiful. I live in The Netherlands, the car is imported from california I was told. Steering wheel is at the left. Driving this thing makes me smile every time. I take the hit in the wallet without complaining.
+louwrentius very cool I have a mate that lives in Belgium win de pus he had a spitfire 73 I also have spitfire 77 I'm going to take a driving video soon if both cars jag and spitfire check back next week. u yes the jag puts a smile on the face. and the money is worth it I don't have any car payments so when I dish out some money's I don't complain I see has investing in my pleasure and a smile b on our faces lol chrers
please i need help on this 2000 jag vanden plas v8, i took off the cylinder head and did not set anything, how can sequence the crank and camshafts together? (want to change the head gaskets), also what will be the best gaskets out there to purchase? i see Fel Pro and Federal-mogul....?
Lisa I'm not familiar with the v8 2000 year go to jag lovers.org for info or possibly you need a work shop manual sorry I can't lead you in the right direction thou that site will
Thank you very much for posting this video. For what it's worth, that saved me a lot of misery. I had to replace the engine harness and I had one wire left and could not figure out where it went. Your video showed me where it plugged in (oil pressure sender behind the filter). Beautiful job. I don't think mine was that clean when it left the factory.
Glad you got that solved it's great having videos has a reference. Thanks for watching my video mate and cheers
Beautiful work!
Thank you. For looking at my video. Do you have a xj6.?
+TheSawyer10702 I had one but bought a 1974 XJ12L with V8 just to avoid the California emissions
Never had a problem smogging mine I live northern CA passed with flying colors.
I proud of your project... you pretty much understand the ins and outs of the engine... You really did beautiful work... actually made for a showroom or museum
Mick we have a lot of spits here in northern ca USA I have a few mates that have spots in UK went last year to visit with a few mates and they came over here.they live up colchester way. We did live in south east London a spent few year in Braintree Essex. We have a garage gang ranging from all sorts of British cars. I'm on face book look me up Daniel sawyer my email is sawyer_10702@ Hotmail.com so join us on fb triumph spitfire lots of good stuff and people willing to help each other out and best places to source parts not Taiwan or Chinese rubbish that don't last so look us up mate cheers
Sorry my mistake, I thought you was saying to keep the gaps together, see what you mean about the bearing spinning. Great video and thanks for sharing. Yes in England with white spit 1500. Cheers
Sorry to say but i think you put that con rod cap on the wrong way after saying about the little gaps lining up. It's at 15.25 on the clock.
Mick pretty sure mate numbers all go together were there stampted and if you look at bearing they go opposite sides where the lip on the actual bearing if they sit both together the bearing will spin. check your manual pretty sure its correct I have put over 10 thousands miles since rebuild. drove it 2 times from California to Montana and to Oregon for two triumph meets and daily driver and from my house to Brentwood every Sunday which is 160 mile round trip with no problems thanks for pointing it out I will double check it out mate cheers you in UK?
I will double check. cheers and thanks for watching my videos.next is a tr3 rebuild
hi do you have the complete video of rebuild like removing step by step. i am planning to this in my 1984 XJ6
No sorry I don't but if you have a question please ask be happy to help out
+TheSawyer10702 OK thank you
+TheSawyer10702 OK thank you
+aneesh babu are you taken engine out did you start yet?
+aneesh babu where are you located I'm in northern california
can you give me the address of this one
This was over a year ago and has since gone to crusher probably a Toyota Prius by now lol
Yes just unscrew stud with vice grips or some device spray penetrant if it's not loose give it a try might come undone might need stud extractor harbor freight 10 bucks you in USA? You can also heat it up with propane yellow can is hotter. If it's too tight or corroded do not try to get it out let it soak with penetrant you do not want break it of so take your time and be patient word of advise....after you get it out clean out threads and blow out with air do not I repeat do not use oil on threads use special lube that comes with head studs arp kit is nice do not use cheap head studs from China they are worthless if you can use head studs then clean them up notice the head studs are longer where the eyes are for lifting engine take a photo of how they fit. Good luck let me know how it goes
I doubt it very much
It's only 2 valves per cylinder that adds up to 12 valves
CARBURETOR?
No carbs efi
Hi do i need to torque down valve cover gasket on 1996 xj6 jag
my dad got me one of these and to be honest, im scared to own it. this will be my first car and it has 70,000 miles, which is good. But how often will i have to put it in the shop/work on it? Im in high school and my studies are more than enough to handle. It sucks because i should be happy its such a gorgeous car. Can i have some of your thoughts? Thank you, great video btw
Awesome car just check fluids and baby it. I had a old 74 xj6 as first car in 1996 with millions of miles on it and was fine
My crank's float is at .0085", I'm needing to do mine. Your installing both standard width thrust washers, did both wear out? What is the thickness of the standard TWs? When are the over sized washers used?
Mine did not full out still standard, not sure of size of top my head. You put feller gauge in gap with crank pushed forward that will give you yoir thrust washer size, that's if your crank is in good shape,
