Hi Daniel, to answer a couple of questions for you. 1. The camshaft comes out the front of the block. it can actually be changed with the engine in the car if need be after you take the front apron off. 2. For my frame, I wire brushed/sanded and ground it to bare metal and then painted it with a product called POR15 and then coated it with POR15 chassis black. I did this on my TR6 and it has held up well. I will see if I have any vids. Cheers. Dave
It will be interesting to see your other two projects especially the XJ. In my opinion the Series 3 was the nicest Xj. It is a pity that so many have been scrapped in the UK.
It's always good getting on a new project.....I find keeping the motivation up can be an issue!! but we all get there in the end. If the tranny is fine, then no problem....the only reason we did ours was just because of a dodgy 3rd gear!! still don't know if it's gonna work!! I'd go (again) with tush's advice on the paint for the chassis, I haven't used POR15, but it has brilliant reviews.
I think first you've got to get your frame down to bare metal. Watch John @ jevchance he's working on a mustang that he's put on a home made rotisserie. Lot's and lot's of griding and sand blating!! If spraying paint you should go with a two part epoxy for durability but as Cheftush mentioned POR-15 brushes on very well and fills in brush marks. Use the primer and other products they recommend though, don't mix products. My $.02!!
