Dam, wow that didnt even look like where the gasket failwd was it? , im not sure about aluminum heads , i guess it all depends how deep the crack goes , find out labor an cost 1st of course it still maybe cheeper the get replacement head versus weld an machine work
Thanks ....i'll check it out on monday and let you all know what the machine shop says..pauls machine shop has been here for 35 years and he has done lots of heads including british cars so we will see
what a shame, I'm not a expert but I would always get the top cut without doubted. but the crack, I dont think its reparabel I've seen attempts at it, but I think you are better off with new/old, and if you want to keep the car I would definitely do it properly. A little tip when you are putting it all back together is Loctite 3020 spray, after I started using it I have never had a blown head gasket again. My father always said that cleanliness is speed :o)
Good luck with the repair. Your missing out a good old British Storm - affecting most of England :( Rain and High Winds - Met Office issued Amber Warning - should be interesting
A shame but now, time to cut your losses and find a serviceable replacement. Have the shop do the valves and surface it to be sure its flat, don't reuse the studs. New ones will insure the integrity of the rebuild.
You will need to talk to someone at a good shop that has experience with this sort of thing. I don't think I would have it welded, even if it is possible. There is too much of a chance that the crack goes further on internally and there would be no way to weld that. I'm afraid you're going to have to bite the bullet and get a new head for it.
Damn...I always tend to think if there is one crack is there more or is there another about to appear.. A head shop with a good reputation may be your best answer..If you were just going to put it back together and then sell it, Id go with the cheapest option. But if you plan to keep it, well worth doing it the best way even if that means a few extra dollars..
Yes it worth spending a few bucks to do it right...it was a job taking it a part don't think i will be up for wasting time and money...its probably cheaper in the long run to do it right has everyone has said so far....i will check out the 3020 thanks for the tip mate and the comments cheers
Yes Mate dont think i want to rip her apart again...its 150 bucks for head set and what ever machine shop charges for work ...going to see about getting a new used head....the car is in to good a shape to send it to the scrapers....Hope the weather isn't to severe...sorry to hear that the weather is terrible :( thanks for watching and commenting Cheers
After watching a few videos I was hoping to see how to remove heads that are stuck on. I had no luck and wondered if anyone can give me advice. I TOO HAVE A 1986 JAGUAR 4.2 liter. Head studs seems stuck. Don't wanna part with it.
Yes :) I have found a place for OEM parts..Jagbits.com they have rebuilt heads for $1600.00 comes with cams completely rebuilt and warranted so it might be a cheaper route to go and they have reasonable prices it will cost 2066.00 with everything. all hoses belts head set timing cover seals and gaskets...so that's the price no labor charges doing it myself paid $400 for car thanks for comments cheers
Mikala the best way to get the head of is to keep wd40 for a couple of days if your using a engine hoist keep pressure on it and spray down in head bolts if there is anyway you can remove head bolts or has many has you can will help also you can you a small bottle jack there's a lip on the head and there's a place to rest the bottom on the engine block one word of advice soak a lot with penetrant for a couple of days just be patient. Let me know how it goes and also you should join jag lovers.org the best web site with guys like frank Anderson he has lots of experience thou any questions don't hesitate to ask good luck :)

Not good brother. Hope it can be fixed.
Shit! That is the pits. I'd lean toward a different head.
I think you would be wasting money trying to weld it - just sounds like a "point of failure" for the future. Good luck with you choice :)
Yes a small set back :)
