Good information, but you went to fast.
Can you make a tutorial based on your best printers for those looking to print their work? Great video by the way.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it. And that is an excellent idea for a video, we might just do that. Maybe “Factors that go into choosing a printer” as well as our recommendations.
So, briefly speaking: assign changes Lab but not RGB values, convert to-opposite, Lab is intact, RGB changes.
I usually go from Photoshop to Lightroom with my edits (not using RAW since I'm amateur photographer). Original file off camera had no color space setting. I had the color space in Photoshop set to Adobe RGB (1998) for initial edits, I then import the image into lightroom for finer tuning. Export from lightroom with color space set to sRGB. Picture looks fine on my laptop, but when opened on my cell phone it looks washed out. I thought sRGB was the color space for web and iOS/cell phone OS. Maybe the mix of color spaces is bad practice? IDK. Any recommendations is appreciated. Thanks
Correct me if I’m wrong, it sounds like you are shooting JPEG, is that right? If that is the case it sounds like you are switching color spaces more frequently than you think. When a camera shoots in JPEG it assigns a color space in camera. In your camera menu uou have the choice to set that to Adobe98 or sRGB. By default it’s sRGB. So to me it sounds like you are going from sRGB to Adobe98 and then back to sRGB. Switching more frequently can cause issues. Also, iOS changed its color space with in the last 10 years to Display P3 which is similar to Adobe98. So that would be another change in your workflow. What would help you specifically is to be a lot more consistent in your workflow. Have the same color space the whole way through. What I would recommend though would be to work in the larger color space while editing and then output to smaller as needed. So first recommendation would be to consider switching to shooting in RAW, lots of benefits there color just being one of them. If you decide to stay in JPEG I would switch your camera to Adobe98, then into Photoshop in Adobe98 then into Lightroom for your fine tuning, and if you wanted to share on the web export to sRGB. That is the workflow I would choose in your situation.
@TheVisualCenter super helpful. Thank you for the detailed response.
Thank you, this was what I needed!
I have a windows PC and a macbook. Is it not possible to use a NAS drive to connect to from each device? Would that work? Each device would be looking at the same location.
👍👍👍
Thanks!
OMG, thank you so much for this quick tutorial. i have been going crazy trying to figure this out. i appreciate it
You are very welcome!
Hello I bought a RGB Color Projector ... But I cannot find a CMY Projector. Anyone willing to help me out and send me a link where I might buy one Thank you
I don’t think they make CMY projectors, as they use the RGB method to produce color.
Thank you this is simply awesome. Bought one
Brilliant thank you so much for sharing
for your information, every length you mentioned here is one unit. The aspect ratio divides an image into one or many squares. From my calculations, a 5:4 image has 5 squares on the X axis and 4 squares on the Y axis. The image then has 5*4 = 20 total squares. Every one square is called an “unit”. This is important because most photographers and wallpaper creators needs to create images that fits with the desired devices. Like you can’t fully fit a 10:16 image into a phone that uses a 9:16 display. And since most phone wallpapers are made in 9:16 aspect ratio, larger phones which exceed the X axis can’t fully fit the wallpaper in their phone screen.
This is just what i needed! Great explainer, quick and straight to the point
Brilliant, Very Helpful and Informative. Many Thanks For Sharing 🇬🇧
This is eye opening, Thanks
Help! I dont have the 'Convert to Profile..." option. How and why?
Let’s get some more information. What version of Photoshop do you have? And what options do you see where you are expecting Convert to Profile?
@@TheVisualCenter mine 2020 version 24.3. I only see Color Settings and Assign Profile.
Thank you for the tutorial but ya'll should really have your website up and running if you're gonna advertise your services. I was willing to check ya'll out, but I cannot.

Hello! Thanks for this video. Question: I have an IPhone 15 pro and I’m using the kondor blue card reader for a CFEXPRESS Pro SE type B card that is 1TB. This set up is used for an iPhone 15. I can’t format it with my iPhone. I think I have to format it with a Mac or a Pc. However, in many videos, I hear that you’re supposed to format it with the device you intend to use it on. Like a camera 🎥 or 📸. How is that possible to format the card on a Mac and then use it with my phone without using my phone to format it with? Pretty new to all this. Would greatly appreciate any tips or knowledge you have on this!
In this specific instance formatting on the Mac is what you would want to do as the iPhone does not have that option and Kondor Blue has set it up to function that way. You’ll want to open Disk Utility on your Mac. Select your Card. At the top select Erase. In this window you can choose the format to reformat to, you want to select either APFS or EXFAT as recommended by Kondor Blue. Then select erase. That is how you can do it on a Mac, there might be third party applications that can do this as well and might make the process easier but that’s the method you can start with.
Wow!! Thank you so much! That was a quick response. I guess not many people are yet using the CFexpress set up with their iPhone 15 pro to shoot video with… I haven’t been able to find a video on this specific set up to get clarity on this. Thank you so much for taking the time to response! Best of wishes to you and your channel! May your channel continue to grow!
Thank you. Can/should I use Adobe RGP even of my monitor is only capable showing 70% of those colors?
I would yes, because the color space is embedded in your file and it will eventually go to a computer that might have a better monitor and you want it to look nice there too. And with printing as well.
Just brilliant
Wow, thank you!
Amazing 🎉
hy!
Nicely explained. Good job
Nice video. (In the Develope Module)..Lightroom all of a sudden is closing an editing panel as soon as I open another panel. How do I turn this auto-close feature off? It is slowing me down to constantly reopen panels. Thanks in advance. Phil
Great question. Take a look at the triangles that open and close them. You are probably seeing a dotted triangle. That symbolizes the auto close. Option/Alt click the triangle and you’ll see it change to a solid triangle. This will allow you to manually open and close panels as you wish.
A more accurate title would have been "Upgrading the light source in a broken lightbox"
Great video. I am considering buying a medium format digital camera. The camera comes with a native 33x44mm image size which is a 4:3 aspect ratio. The camera offers a cropped 24x36mm image size which is a 3:2 aspect ratio. However, I want to create a custom cropped image size of 27x36mm which is a 4:3 aspect ratio. As far as I know, custom cropped image sizes and aspect ratios are not yet an available feature.
True, as far as I know not an available feature, but that would be such a helpful thing especially if you are doing panorama cropping or square. Having the ability to make your own custom ones would be great especially when developing one’s style/voice as an artist. Hopefully the camera companies are reading these comments.
Ha! Just done the same with 4040 extruded aluminum single vertical piece rigidly held on a ply 15mm thick 24" x 24" baseboad. All parts were from ALIexpress...and cheaper than UK dealer by far.. (Think the 4040 a bit overkill)..3030 would do for a lightweight englarger such as the Intrepid 35mm/120 for instance...Slider I fitted with 4 runner wheels and brake knob. .I have an idea that might work for the slider to prevent a sudden drop...attach a wire to slider over the top down the other side to a lheavy weight running in the grove at the rear...Much check out the local plumber for lead! 🤣
I can't seem to find a video (or Adobe info) on how to create a LrC on a new computer to replace a "broken" computer. Since I have two Apple computers and one is broken and both have LrC with different photos, I can't seem to get the new computer to "accept" a new LrC. Adobe keeps sending me an e-mail to get me to buy another Adobe LrC. Is there a simple way? Do you have a video?
What a brilliant explanation of colour models, clear, concise and easy to understand for old farts like me. Thank you so much for this content!
Glad it helped!
Bro I thought this was a NY subway station for a quick second
Straight to the point, extensive and well explained unlike other BS on YT. Thks!
I have my LR CAT aand all pics on the external drive. I have all of this also backedup in three places. Now when I travel with laptop Can't I just open the CAT file on laptop after plugging the HD in to the laptop? On my trip I import all photos I took like normal on that HD. When I get home I connect that drive to my main system and all should work the same??????
You can work from an external drive. Best if it’s an SSD connected via usb-c or something with similar speeds. I would regularly back up everything on that drive though, I personally feel that this is a bit more risky and would want to insure everything is safe.
@@TheVisualCenter YES!! I hv come to embrace your way as the best solution. Thks!!!!
Enjoyed that thank you. You have a great way about you.
Can I crop a photo taken horizontally to 4:5 or just 1.91:1?
You can crop a photo of any orientation to any ratio. You would just need to crop in much tighter. Be aware that you’ll decrease resolution the tighter you go.
How can you change aspect ratio of an image without affecting other layers?
Aspect Ratio is normally a global thing, but help us understand your question. Do you have more specifics you could share, or an example?
Hope this goes well
Amazing Video Adobes explanation of keywording is hard to follow
I edit my images in Lightroom and sometimes export it to Photoshop for more edits, then finalize it by exporting in Lightroom as an sRGB file since my images are printed by Mpix (which uses sRGB) or are displayed on my Zenfolio web site. Since I'm exporting all my images in sRGB does it also make sense to set the color mode in my Dell u2413 monitor to sRGB mode for editing images in Lightroom & Photoshop? Thanks and great video.
Sorry we missed this question. If your entire workflow is in sRGB and there is no reason for changing, then yes it would make sense to put your monitor in sRGB mode.
@@TheVisualCenter Thanks! Just upgraded to the Dell U2723qe and have been using it in sRGB with great results. The monitor doesn't have as wide a gamut as my older one which is ok.
I’m using A canon camera and Adobe Bridge software along with photo mechanics. Is there anyway to get cannons in camera ratings to show up in either photo mechanic or Adobe bridge?
Having matched the image using the X Rite colour checker, why do you feel it necessary to tweak the colours. Surely it's more likely at this point that your monitor is inaccurate and not the image file.
Likewise, why not set the white balance from the X Rite greyscale patches ?
Good stuff ! My first lessons in my photography degree course were in setting up for copying using a 5x4 camera. (BORING !!) Sounds straightforward but the devil is in the detail ! Most important, after you have correctly setup the lighting, is the 'keystone effect', and it's not always easy to get it right. One little tip I can give you is one I discovered several years later ... place a good sized (10x10inches) mirror on the stand you are going to put the artwork, then when you view with the camera ensure that the reflection of the camera is exactly centre in the view finder frame... make sense ? You probably have to try it to see what I mean !
That’s a great tip! Thanks for sharing.
I sometimes assign Adobe RGB to my SRGB images because I like how it looks in some cases, I use it like a fast way of increasing the vibrance and the results are also very consistent, been trying to do it for videos inside of PS but it looks like it doesn't like it, no idea why
Right to the point and easy to understand! Great video! Thanks!
Very helpful, thanks
I had to send album to a client so they could add comments to certain images. Also to one client so they could down load the images. Can I do this with collections. I just realize I can only do this with the regular Lightroom to make an album I can share.
Really clear instructions for a newbie, thank you.
