Hello Sega Guys👋 Avid listener of the podcast over on Spotify. I grow playing Sega from the master system right up to the dreamcast. Love the passion you lads have for it. Just fired up Sega Rally tonight. It's probably my all time favourite racing game. Just has a certain flow to it and the music absolutely rocks. Sounds great on my sound system. Hey did you know there's a guy on doing a remake on steam called Over Jump Rally. It's lookin pretty sweet. I could talk all day about Sega myself but this message would be like a small novel by the end haha. Anyway. Love the show. Brings back the memories of a simpler time. Thanks 😎

Awesome episode guys! Great to hear Jason’s experience coming to the Saturn in more recent years. It’s nice to know that it is still winning people over and is continuing to impress! And I can totally relate to what Jason was saying about Sharkas challenge. The Sega Rally one last year was a great new memory for me too and I had a blast getting into the game again. Just an awesome time all round! Actually I just realised it was Jason I spoke to back at the time on Twitter chatting about methods in Sega Rally and I made a quick video showing how I was doing my laps. That was really cool and I enjoyed the community aspect of it all. Anyway, nice work guys, really enjoyed the show, another cracking episode!

I didn't remember any negative reviews about Daytona USA on the saturn in those early days, but I also didn't think it was a reach to assume it was incomplete due to the unexpected early release of the Saturn console. The comparisons to Ridge Racer on the PS were something I did remember, when you look at the Japanese releases of both consoles it was like Sony and Sega were trading blow for blow. PS got Ridge Racer, Saturn got Daytona USA. PS got Toshinden, and Saturn got Virtua Fighter. I even remember seeing both Japanese consoles for sale in CA Games in the west end of Glasgow round about December 1994, he was asking for £1000 for each console and had them both up and running and guess what... the PS had Ridge Racer and the Saturn had Daytona USA running... it was only natural to see the comparisons. I too remember the era before frame-rates and HD and all that jazz, and none of that mattered in those days as both RR and Daytona were excellent games to play.... but I did prefer RR if I am honest.... I just thought the soundtrack was better and more suited to the game.

Have this on my DC too, but my go to is via Redream and with Logitech steering wheel. 60fps almost all the while.

Can't wait for Virtua Fighter 6 to release and have Yakuza 1 playable in it.

RE2 and RE3 could have 100% come to the Saturn with Ram Cart, 3D controller support and chunkier quads if Sega had released ANY 3D Sonic Game for the Console during the Era.

I got my PS a mere 3 months after Jason did in March 98 when I turned 13. I always wanted a Saturn but by that point it seemed a bit pointless at that age as I never really saw any games anywhere and I was given the choice of a PS or N64 so I picked the PS. I had already played a Saturn and loved it, then I did a PS for Saturn swap with a mate for a while around 2004/2005. Utterly loved it again. Got my own around 2008 or so if I remember and picked up a bunch of games but it was a janky 2nd hand so I played it occasionally but not tonnes. It picked up for me when I could get stuff around 2022 with more income. Great chat lads as I said in the live chat. All caught up now! Hope Jason enjoys/enjoyed Grandia. Utterly fantastic game I've completed several times.

I still remember my parents getting me a sega Saturn that came with Sega Rally, VF2 and Euro 96 and few days later got SF alpha and Thunder hawk 2, glad they waited a year so I ended up with the mk2 Saturn with better controllers

"I've been set up rather badly"... Ha, loved the Dave Perry impression! Great to see this running online in 2024, but, wow, it really seems to have a fair degree of chugginess to it compared to the normal single player version. I don't recall the online Sega Rally matches you uploaded having any particularly noticeable slowdown? You should do some more matches, but with the slow car boost turned on - in my experience (playing Daytona and Outrun Online Arcade online on the PS3) it definitely adds a bit more of a fun factor if you're constantly neck-and-neck. If you do do some more of these (I'd love to see you two race on the 2 extra stages), don't bother with that red Hornet in this - it's slow and plays weird. Go for the car called Max. It's got a low top speed in the stats, but it's got super fast acceleration and really responsive handling - it's the best car IMHO, outside of the unlockable Hornet that looks like the proper arcade version (which for some weird reason is called Daytona). Just don't try and play it like _actual_ Daytona with the powerslides around the corners, it handles more akin to the car from Virtua Racing.

Looks like it is running at half speed. Even the timer is going slower. It is like they reduced the framerate from 30fps in single player to 15fps in multiplayer to compensate for lag.

Sega was always rushing and playing catch up. The port being rushed is down to their own mismanagement. Brand new wonder console, let's not give ourselves enough time to support it properly. Arcade perfect ports of Daytona and VF2 would have still been appreciated, never occurred to them.

The famicom was looking next gen compared to the sg1k! The Master System did look next gen compared to the NES. The sega magic to me started with the SMS.

To the comment about playing Guardian Heroes on the Saturn all night and ignoring the N64, I had a similar experience but it was with the Dreamcast. It was Christmas of 2001 with the Dreamcast on it's last legs unfortunately and me having just bought it with Sonic Adventure 2 that prior summer. My pal got a GameCube, and the other an Xbox. We all brought our consoles over and it was the DC that we played all night Dead or Alive 2, Sonic Adventure, Grandia II, and yes even Sonic Shuffle haha while the "new" consoles sat there unused.

The SG-1000 game lineup looks better than the Famicom. Those three Famicom games are basically the same.

The upgrade Sega made from the SG1000 to Master system always reminds me of the leap from the commodore VIC 20 leap to C64. Great video mate👍🏻
