*TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR A SAROO* Gamophile still lists the 1.3.5 PCB with bevelled edges (check the 4th image on the listing). You can find it here: a.aliexpress.com/_EH0Y1YU
I never thought I would love the Saroo as much as I do, my physical games can now be sold, after making my own .gif and music on startup is great, I haven't tried burnt games, as I don't have any, or a burner, adding your own box art would be great..
Nice to know some other Scottish Sega Saturn fans! I really should dig mine out next time I'm at home and play through Panzer Dragoon Saga again since I lost the save file when the internal battery died.
Hmmm, I did everthing in the video, but when I booted it up, I had the logo change and then my game folders came up on screen. All good so far. But when I selected any of the there were no games listed on screen. Got it back to its previous settings for now.
Each disc of Panzer Dragoon Saga is a standalone boot with a title screen and menu, you just choose your save file and continue as normal like you were using a disc based copy.
You can setup the config file to allow you to eject the SD card to simulate a disc swap. Only two specific titles actually need a disc swap while powered on, all other muiti-disc games allow you to power off or reset the Saturn.
Any idea of how to check if your saroo is compatible with the update? Id read when i got mine about 6-9 months ago that some carts will brick if ypu use tne wrong update.
I’d delete everything from the SAROO root folder of your SD card with the exception of the folder that your disc images are stored in, and rebuild the file structure with a fresh download of 0.7.
@SEGAGuys I pretty much did the same the update has fixed issues I had wiv my retro bit controller sega saturn pro so God bless the community lad also appreciate u getting bk to me u hav 1 more sub
Hey!! Great video, how did you get English as the first language to be shown on the menu! On this 0.7 version, the first language that appears is Chinese and then I have to switch manually to English.
Glad you enjoyed it! Changing the language to English is explained at 1:13 on the video. I always edit the config file when updating the firmware, so it’s English as soon as you boot up rather than manually changing it by pressing the left shoulder button while on the menu.
My Saroo is one I purchased through eBay (I assume a “clone” as I understand they virtually all are) - my MCU version is 240627. How do I know if I can apply this update without bricking my saroo? I would love to have this update but not at the cost of destroying the saroo of course.
Yeah, there’s no “genuine” Saroo, in the sense that there’s a genuine GDEMU and clone GDEMU’s. Saroo is open source, TPUnix basically allowed others to take his work and manufacture carts, and he provides support via firmware updates. If you have the 0.5 FPGA and a MCU of 240627, you’re safe to use the latest firmware. My Saroo board is version 1.3.5 with the same MCU and ran 0.6 and 0.7 no problem. If you’re on 0.6 firmware (not to be confused with the 0.5 FPGA) then you’ll be fine. You should be able to check your Saroo board revision by looking on the top, back left corner of the PCB through your shell if it’s transparent enough (1.3.5, 1.3.6 etc). The thing to remember is that the firmware doesn’t “flash” the cart, it’s all done on the SD card, so there’s no danger to your Saroo in that regard.
The seller we got ours from has replaced his listing with one which doesn’t have beveled edges, and as such we can’t recommend them now. Best bet is to look around listings on AliExpress and shop from a seller with plenty of sales/reviews/reviews with pictures and who mentions using new chips and beveled edges on the connector pins.
@@SEGAGuys Hey guys. I've been searching and found several that offer an 'Elite' version using new chips, but none that mention bevelled edges. Is that definitely a thing in the description- they all seem to use the same pics so it's hard to see. There are sooo many sellers- I bet they are all the same one...
@@vyperii Hey, so the store we bought our first Saroo’s from was Gamophile Store, and it’s the only listing I’d ever seen for new chips + bevelled edges. The PCB was version 1.3.5, however the listing is now gone. Gamophile is now selling 1.3.6 boards, again using new chips but the key difference is that the PCB does not have bevelled edges. Now we’ve tried one, it works fine, runs the latest firmware no problem, but it’s at your own discretion whether you choose to use an unbevelled cart in your Saturn … we have our preference, we’d always say bevelled edges is the way to go for preservation of the Saturn cart slot, but we also appreciate these things are running in hundreds of Saturn’s without issue. At the end of the day, the decision on whether to use an unbevelled cart lies with you guys … but I will say that Gamophile is the best Saroo seller on AliExpress, his comms are second to none and he’s insanely helpful. Hope this helps.
Well if you don't have the ISOs handy and you already had a bunch of burned discs around eg from using PseudoSaturn - saves you from having to rip them. I think I find myself in this position.
Yeah Nick, you can shuffle through them on the menu using the left shoulder button on the controller, or just manually set it permanently using the config file edit. Cheers!

I bought a v 0 6 Saroo and you would easily update to v 0.7 and it will be OK
I wouldn't know this without this! THX SEGAGUYS!
This is awesome, thanks for covering this. Happy new year Sega Guys!
And you Shain! Hope you and your family have a great New Year!

Update worked on mine, phew. Nice to be able to play games without having to switch to the Pseudo Saturn Kai now!
🙏 thanks
So, it this basically an EverDrive type of thing for Saturn, a way to play games stored on the flash card rather than requiring original disks?
Pretty much. It bypasses the CD block of the Saturn and feeds data to the console via the cart slot.
How does the Saroo handle multi-disc games, like Panzer Dragoon Saga?
Each disc of Panzer Dragoon Saga is a standalone boot with a title screen and menu, you just choose your save file and continue as normal like you were using a disc based copy.

I am confused as to why I would want to use a saroo to launch a burnt disc
Options, I guess. You have a Saturn that can play games from pretty much anywhere.
Well if you don't have the ISOs handy and you already had a bunch of burned discs around eg from using PseudoSaturn - saves you from having to rip them. I think I find myself in this position.
There's a small handful of games that aren't compatible with the Saroo that currently require a disc to work
