VF2 is THEE game that made me fall in love with 3-D games. I was 10 back in 1994 when it dropped in arcades, and I was absolutely astonished at how fluid, and real the game looked. The attract mode alone was visually appealing, and blew my 10 year old mind. A prolific trendsetter indeed, Sega was always ahead of their time. Love this video and the level of nostalgia it exudes.
I don't think it's possible for young people today to fully appreciate how mind-blowing this was when it first appeared in arcades. I could not believe my eyes. I was almost scared to play it, to be honest, as it just looked so fluid. I've never been good at the Virtua Fighter games (or any of the SEGA fighting games, if I'm being honest), but I sure as heck enjoyed the beatdowns I got! And when the game arrived on Saturn, I would stand in awe as I watched it running on demo kiosks in shops. To this day, my big regret is not owning a Saturn back in the day, because I would have played the heck out of VF2 and I know my (mostly PlayStation-owning) friends and family would have adored it.
Yep. It's iconic. I remember the Christmas I had it and SEGA Rally on the Saturn well. That and Tomb Raider and NiGHTS. Good stuff. I'd always end up mimicking Leon when play fighting. Miracle I didn't break my fingers!
I’m 52 and was never a fan of one on one fighters….Except for Virtua Fighter 2! I can’t exactly explain why. Soul Caliber 2 is my favorite but Virtua Fighter 2 is a close second! Great video!
I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw VF2 running on the saturn. It looked so much better than anything available at the time at home. On the arcade, I saw daytona first, so VF2 was less shocking.
personally, Virtua Fighter 1 and 2 distributed by Expert Software, was pretty easy to run on my pc back in the day. The demo also never caused me any trouble. I just wish it had controller support. I never had any issues using keyboard with it back in the day though. I love VF and VF2. I look forward to Virtua Fighter 6 ,currently in development.
The visuals and music still stand out 30 years later. The texture on the polygons has so much pop and weight. Imagine seeing this 30 years ago. I did and still haven't forgotten.
Incredibly in-depth look in their chaps. I loved the title splashes you put in there and the quick history lesson on the development alongside the model 2. I own VF2 on the Saturn but it's one I haven't sat with enough over other games like Last Bronx m, Fighting Vipers and Fighters MegaMix which I owned first!
This was probably the first game I realized that the arcade could really be brought home. I got my copy with the 3 pack of this, Virtua Cop and Daytona USA. Still so buttery smooth. It was surely a challenge to try and "git gud" with every character in the game
@@Frogbull55 100% mate, I’ve said several times on the pod that for me it’s the most impressive technical achievement on the console, and that’s even taking Last Bronx into account. As a whole package, VF2 just nails it. - James.
I recently got a Saturn with Satiator and I love seeing this game in Watch Mode. I even got a Virtua Stick for my Saturn! Hoping to have friends come over and play it!
It may be a small thing to some, but I like how you two shook up the voiceover format. Am used to narration vids being done wholly either by Dan or James so that was a well done hand off. I unfortunately don't have the same memories of VF2 and can only look at retrospectively. I did see the Saturn game in stores as a kid but didn't understand it. For as much as Tekken was technically outperformed by Virtua Fighter, the marketing for it was far more effective in my corner of the world at the time. But at least I am enjoying VF2 on Saturn now and can vouch along with y'all that it really is that damn good. I have it on Xbox 360 but would still rather play on Saturn.
I'm in a very select group. The ones that actually like Virtua Fighter Kids. It is just VF2, but everyone's got a big head. Same as holding down select on pad 2 between round on Tekken 2. And Tokyo (and everyone really) from Fighting Vipers with a big head running through fences was great too. I miss big head modes.
This is peak VF. They won't do it, but I hope that for VF6 they keep to this aesthetic but really expand the "world" of VF in the stages. The arcade version in particular has such a distinctive Sega style and fidelity, no other game looks like it....
I swear the title had me thinking you guys were playing a patched version which runs at 30FPS, that held me from watching it for a few days. Yes, it doesn't make any sense, but this is how I read it.
I can't tell you how many hours of Virtua Fighter 2 I spent trying to beat Dural. She's an incredibly difficult challenge. And having to start from scratch is brutal. But we did it. My friends and I would take turns playing runs, and we got pretty good with a lot of characters. The only one I never really mastered was Akira, who had some crazy inputs and timing for me at the time. But it was a great game, is a great game, and will be a great game well into the future! The Sega Saturn is our future, let's continue to change people's minds about how awesome the system really is. Cheers, mates!
People nowadays cant imagine, what was like playing this in the arcade back in the 90s. Now, with the saturn port being perfect, how is it possible for media back then, to still say the console was unable to do 3d???
VF3TB has been re-released on modern consoles/pc via jan2024 release of like a dragon infinite wealth, and last year in jpn arcades (came out on 25th anniversary of DC-vf3tb!)
@@randomhajile It’s not a re-release when it’s inside Infinite Wealth, it’s a bonus game in an arcade within another game. It has been re-released in arcades as VF3tb Online, but the Dreamcast port remains the only standalone home version of any version of VF3/3tb.
Hi everyone, just found a couple of cool Saturn videos on this other utube channel called - Scott Made A Thing! , one with regards to Sega rally championship & the other on the saroo cart , really cool in game Easter eggs during he’s gameplay , which I’m sure you’ll all find really cool
Controversial, but I don't really like the VF games. However, I still bought VF2 for my Saturn and honestly, it blew me away. Didn't play it that much but anytime I wanted to show off my Saturn to my mates, it was top of the pile.
No. The script for this video was written and recorded and the video itself was edited and uploaded before the news of VF: REVO broke. We covered the news on REVO in its own video at the time: th-cam.com/video/YYjoHQEkwMw/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
We’ve got a LOT of love for VF1 here at the SEGAGuys. We did a similar video for VF1’s 30th last year … th-cam.com/video/KkksrxeH43E/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Instead of the Genesis, Sega could had port this to the 32X instead. I feel that would had been a better port than the downgraded Genesis version. VF1 should had been ported to Genesis while VF2 should had been ported to 32X following the Saturn version.
No it didn’t, it got VF 10th anniversary, which was VF4 Evolution with VF1 skins on the characters and stages. The characters also have their VF4 stances, not their VF1 poses, and the move set and gameplay mechanics are entirely from VF4 Evolution. VF1 and VF 10th anniversary are two very different games.

One of the all-time greatest fighting games. Virtua Fighter 2 is still amazing! I have an import copy of it on my PS2 and will always cherish it. ❤❤❤❤

I was obsessed with this game. Could beat the CPU on hardest difficulty, that's how much I played it on the Saturn.
That’s not easy! Game is hard as nails on higher difficulty.

Great retrospective guys. Those original arcade versions of the game and daytona looked so good. Its a game i should play more

I got this on release in the UK for my Saturn, scary how nearly 30 years have passed by

Great video thank you !
As much as I love the Yakuza series - playing the various VF games in the virtual arcade is always the highlight :)
Virtua Fighter 2 is best game because of portrait, Virtua Fighter animation and more.
I kept renting this from Blockbuster video over and over until I had about money to just buy it outright! So good.

Superb
The versions on the Yakuza games are decent too. Great stuff.
Dammit.
I want to play it NOW.
The Saturn has the best color pallet in ALL gaming imo.
Even compared to the arcade they pop.
Good point. Sometimes the colours look too saturated but overall, Sega Blue Skies > PlayStation Dithering or N64 Smear

I do not thing the graphic is outdated at all. In contrast to a lot of cheap knock offs the visuals of VF2 aged very well.
