Can you talk about grind size? Perhaps in microns or common grinders (C40, DF w SSP MP), as it is VERY important. BTW, for me the lid creates a vacuum if put on during the brew, which causes stalling. It’s recommended more to go under, except when storing.
@@seansweet4883 thank you for the info! As for grind settings, it would be difficult to assess. Even when using C40 , different rpm changes distribution of particles. There are machines that can check that but very expensive. I used Kafatek Max2 and similar grind settings as for Orea V4.
Thanks so much for video. Can you do the same for MHW-3BOMBER torch portafilter pls?
@@tuananhngo8736 thx for watching. We will see if they will send me anything else.
I like your crazy theory of seasoning baskets and would like to propose an even crazier take - maybe it's your brain/sense of taste that takes time to get used to the new basket and fully appreciate what it reveals?
Thank you Jack, I was really intrigued as to how this would compare with other brewers and I'm glad you showcased the Hoop. I've never really enjoyed really long brews which is why I thought this likely isn't for me. However, I must admit the brewing process seems really simple. Simple likely means more consistency? It would be nice to see how this compares to the Orea. I always stick to the same Orea recipe and only adjust the temperature and potentially the grind size depending on the coffee filters I use. I have SSP MP burrs (after your encouragement to go for them) and the Orea seems to work really well and really consistently. I'd be intrigued to see how something simple like the Ceado also compares to something expensive like the Aiden or even the Filter profile on your Decent :D
@@gero77 thank you for watching. I never really liked pour overs on Decent although I haven’t explored all the options there. At the same brew time Orea seems to extract more and extra layers of flavours but Hoop is more smooth. Overall not bad brewer and seems consistent so far.
Awesome might take a look and try getting for a pour over way if making coffee
@@CC-wolverine good pour over is not bad 😁 Thx for watching!
@mycoffeeshow111 your welcome inuse to make pour over coffee with a older miletta dripper then I stopped
BPA is just 1 of many off gassing toxins from plastics. Apply heat, AND a solvent like water, and its NOT good on something you use regularly. I know from experience in plastics mfg. Dont regularly drink from it Jack!! lol. BTW, What do you think of the ceramic Bonavita Drip control brewer? Does it have a filter inside? That would be an interesting idea. Maybe with mag-chloride or sulfate, or cal...Would be a interesting gimmick :-)
@@philindeblanc thank you for watching and all the info. Tbh I haven’t heard about the brewer you mentioned. I will have to check them out. I am getting a complete set made of clay/ceramic from Palatti soon. It weighs almost 10kg! Should be awesome.
@@mycoffeeshow111 Nice...Will look fwd to that. But you should check out the Bonavita, about 28$usd, and it has a "infusuion" drip control.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I've had my Hoop for about a year now and I prefer it over my V60. It did take a few tries to get it dialed in, but once you understand the Hoop, I think it makes a great cup of coffee. Extremely smooth. I've found that if the grind is too COARSE, the Hoop might choke. Using a Fellow Ode grinder with Gen 2 burrs, I grind at one mark below 4. 16 grams of coffee to 250ml water at 93 degrees C. The draw down time is usually about 3-4 minutes.
@@LightZone9 Uff, I thought I am the only one who likes this brewer. Thank you very much for sharing!
More BS, and thanks for not making up flavors you might taste to sound important.
@@markmlinar1511 thx for watching!
Whoa, what a load of BS, sorry could not hold it back. I got my Ceado Hoop the week it launched. Got it for over a year now and IMHO it sucks. Poor design, coffee can back defuse to the outer ring and plug the holes. The actual version 1 did not bring the lid, which by the way will favor stalling due to the pressure difference inside the brewer vs outside. Honestly, DO NOT waste your money on this thing! Used it a couple dozen times, lent it to other coffee nerds and the consensus was that it was too finicky, too gimmicky, too inconsistent and the quality of the brews did not justify the investment of time and money. (3/10 score)
@@jtvrm1 I guess you are not a fan 😛. I don’t know what to say. I had some very tasty pour overs out of it. Maybe it doesn’t offer that much in terms of control as regular pour over brewers but I had no issues with it clogging or anything. I don’t think it will replace my Orea but it could be something I use when I travel and don’t want to concentrate on recipe and grind size too much.
@@mycoffeeshow111 Dont get me wrong, I like your work and I do follow your reviews - great work btw, please keep it up it is very useful for end consumers like myself. Regarding the Ceado Hoop however I completely disagree and from what I gathered I'm not alone in this. Indeed this will not replace the Orea V4, V60, Hario switch, UFO dripper nor Sworksdesing bottomless dripper I have, all of which outperform the Hoop in the price/consistency/cup quality categories. Would strongly recommend trying out the UFO v2 and the Sworksdesign bottomless drippers if you haven't, real game changers, both. All the best.
@ thank you very much. I always appreciate honesty as it will be important for any potential buyers. I had very positive experience with Hoop but that could be due to good coffee and grinder (Max 2). I contacted both UFO and Sworks in the past but they haven’t responded.
Regrettably, my experience was similar. A local roaster and cafe, facing comparable issues, mostly related to inconsistency, lent it to me. While I managed to produce some enjoyable brews, the taste was noticeably weaker compared to a V60/Kalita. I found it delightful with a natural Guatemalan coffee but not with the others I tried. Additionally, I encountered quite a few stalled brews. It might serve well as a brewer for someone who prefers not to use a gooseneck kettle or learn precise pouring techniques, perhaps a beginner or for travel purposes. However, I wouldn't recommend it as the sole brewing option. My overall rating would be 6/10; it's user-friendly, but the drawbacks are too significant for my daily routine.
@ thank you very much for sharing your experience!
Not sure I am convinced but I can see some of my moto-camping friends could go for that. That said... I don't see why I would be compelled to use this at home. Traveling though, with limited amount of space it can get interesting. Simple and not too big.... if the result is better than other small size solutions, yes! ....it is often surprising how much people carry with them to make a decent coffee at a camping site.
@@foodieontour with regular pour over you have more control over the extraction. This I think is more towards those who like good coffee but are not necessarily a coffee geeks.
I bought the tamper not due to your amazing video but a random search on Amazon for forced tamper and came across it and love it it works best for me at max force adjustment at like 30 or 35lbs of force. I also got their gravity leveler but not the Titan model which is suppose to be the perfect companion to the tamper didn't see it till just now few days after getting it and using it. So far the muvna company has quality products. About to purchase the Mantis clone wdt tool they have and the Titan gravity leveler as well, to better match the tamper. Never could figure out why there's two springs for the tamper. I like the flat bases more then the ripple too. But haven't noticed any issues with the ripple base at all the tamper does look better the other force tampers. Amazon having a sale right now where it's 45 dollars and not the 65 to 70 dollar price tag it normally is.
@@CC-wolverine Thx for watching! for the price you mentioned it is a really good deal. I am not sure if I am a big believer of levellers but I sometimes use them myself. I will be reviewing another tamper next week.
@mycoffeeshow111 your very welcome. I came to this video and was shocked that you already did a review and I don't remember watching it lol. yes I do think after wdt you just to need to tamp but never had good luck w tampers of any kind so always used a leveler as a tamper since I have it adjusted to be able to do so. All my pucks have been consistent level and flat after doing all three and noticed a difference for me and my coffees I use. So I wdt level then tamp then pick screen. I only use the screen because it helps with the acidity in the cup I usually get and my stomach. The tamper is amazing and is the only one I use, I do wish I could adjust the depth in it or the leveler but can't but getting good shit times with it so trying to learn to be use to it not going so deep now. Just was curious if you use they're levelers was all. Thanks again for the video

@@gero77 thank you very much for your kind words. New review is coming this Saturday.
If it actually needs seasoning, 1kg of coffee isn't nearly enough to season such large burrs but also some people / early testers noted it needed like 15kg (or was it pounds?) before it was working decently for espresso. Otherwise they get bad channeling, I didn't find this to be the case with mine before and after seasoning I don't think I noticed too much difference so they may have improved the finishing on their burrs and fixed the burr issues. For the popcorning people have developed 3d printed / better anti-popcorn hoppers. The main down side to this grinder I found is that it does benefit from slow feeding (for more flavour clarity / less fines and better consistency) but you can't slow feed without it popcorning and making a mess, so the hopper upgrade would be beneficial. The other thing I didn't like was that the knocker retains a lot of coffee and it's not just fines and chaff, so you might not want to waste it and exclude it. I remember enjoying the results for pourover/ brew coffee with the 078s and espresso was very smooth and had a good balance of flavour clarity and body with a nice sweetness usually.
@@BensCoffeeRants as I recall, the stock burrs started getting good after something ridiculous like 15-20lbs
Thank you very much for sharing your experience. I will keep using it b4 recording another video, so hopefully by that time it will get even better. Very good point on the knocker- i thought it is just my imagination but some coffee stays there so sometimes I knock the knocker on the side to get everything in.
Why do I need to disassemble it?
@@famip3679 you don’t have to. But if you want to, now you know how. Most do it once a month for deep cleaning.
I have one of these on my coffee bench and really enjoy it and the results in the cup. I don’t change rpm often so being hidden on the back isn’t an issue for me - I use my phone and reverse the camera so I can see the adjustment without moving the machine. Extremely low retention - almost nothing. Is a little hard to work out exactly where you are lined up on the dial for grind size but there is a third party magnetised arrow you can buy to attach to help read front on. Great in white and if you keep your setup clean generally it’s no issue to keep this pristine too. It does require a stack of seasoning with the stock burrs but once you get there shots are highly repeatable. SSP is going to release some 78mm espresso burrs for it so that will be interesting - though likely pricey.
@@foxboxblue thank you very much for sharing your experience. Are you planning to buy SSP for yours?
@@mycoffeeshow111Hey Jack - I think I’ll wait for some reviews to hit first before considering. It would need to be a reasonable step up for me to splash the case but, in principle, yes! 😂 Keep up the good work on your channel! 👍
@ thank you very much!
Will wait for the next kickstarter for the Sculptor II. Happy with my 064S.
@@ericbaluya361 I see your point. I don’t think they will be doing Kickstarter any time soon but Sculptor Ultra would be a good idea.
Awesome video as always, it is a nice looking grinder and I'm sure it works wonders. How do you like it compared to the df83 grinder? Such as noise level speed of grinding, and taste wise with espresso?
@@CC-wolverine Thx for watching! That is a big question, something I will try to answer in upcoming video. I had DF for longer so I am more used to it. It is much faster than 078s and allows for easier access to the burrs. Also the rpm dial is where it should be. Timemore is sleeker, and smaller so iit is easier to find the place for it. I haven’t compared the taste yet so can’t say for sure.
@mycoffeeshow111 okay man thank you for your response and your always welcome your always happy and enjoy what you are doing which always makes the reviews enjoyable. Looking at eureka grinders as well but might decide on the df83v for what I'm looking for. @mycoffeeshow111 you ever been able to get your hands Ina. Varia vs6 grinder that uses flat burrs and conical burr sets? Looks like a great grinder too
@@CC-wolverine thank you very much. There are soo many grinders to play with that is next to impossible to try them all. At some point I have to check some European machines but they are not eager to send me anything. Varia I haven’t tried yet. Maybe I should contact them as well.
@@mycoffeeshow111 lol hahahahaha very true hopefully varia and other companies will be able to send you something to try and make review with for. What's your favorite coffee and pick Oreo tools you use everyday.
Nice video! I have been using a few baskets over the last few years including a VST 18. I like to use 16g of beans for my particular cup size. But I want to see if I can extract two shots from one extraction, so I searched for the largest basket I could find, which was a Pullman 876 25-28g basket. I have had it for a few days, and I can get 30g into it, pull 60g of espresso into a small glass espresso cup, then divide it into two larger cups for myself and my brother. Seems to work quite well!
Thank you very much for watching. I have tested few more baskets since this video. I think there might be few more XXL baskets out there. Wafo and Sworks have both been making some. Currently I am happy with my Wafo Soe , 18g basket but 20g gets in nicely.
I have a Timemore 078 and really like it. I only seasoned with about 2 1/2KG beans and not the recommended 5kg. I brewed a cup before seasoning just to see how it tasted (had issues) then after 500g, then about another 500 just to learn and see what it was like. when I reached 2500 kg seasoning I could tell a difference and liked what I was getting so stopped seasoning. i think you will like the 078s and something I may consider getting. By the way, I also tried Dark roasts on it and though it was not too bad, not the best and prefer to use the Baratza Virturoso or Urbanic for those. Thanks for sharing and enjoyed the video.
@@coffeecove7058 thank you very much for watching and sharing your experience. Someone in the comments mentioned 20kg plus for seasoning which seems like a lot. We will see.
@@mycoffeeshow111 I have only heard of that much with grinders like the EK's and high larger burr grinders. For Timemore I never heard of needed to go that much. The most would be 5,000kg, or grind beans after doing a certain amount and stop where you like it. That is what I do with my grinders. I brew a cup first then stop where I am happy with the brew.
@@coffeecove7058 thx again for responding!
What will they think of next..😅

I’ve had an 078s for a year or so. Bought at the kickstarter price. I also have a niche zero which has been absolutely faultless for 4y. Does the 078s always beat the Niche? No. It’s very dependent on the individual bean. I always use a bottom puck filter with the 078s. It makes for much more consistent shots. I’d love to see a comparison with the PHILOS. Thanks for the review Jack. I’m one of your regulars!
@@grahamXphillips thank you very much for watching and sharing your thoughts. I would love to try Philos but they don’t want to send me one.
On the sculptor the rpm works opposite as any other grinder. And the burrs need roughly 20-25kg seasoning. 1300: complex, light body 950: more body, still complex Shot times pretty much underpin the above. Sculptor user since day0
@@CoreProject05 thank you very much. Very interesting. Guess I need to keep seasoning
@@mycoffeeshow111 yup. 2 pcs of Letter/ A4 size paper are your friends. We have done several comparisons w 98 mm mizen, HU, EG-1 Core and in many cases the sculptor was equally or more complex and interesting. For the kickstarter price this grinder is such a beast :)
@@CoreProject05 I was surprised that time of extraction between top and lower rpm was fluctuating a lot and didn’t follow any logic. The shots on top speed always had more body and overall satisfaction while you said you got more body on lower rpm. I will have to revisit that. Not easy with the way they positioned the dial
Jack it's great to see more and more companies sending you gear to review. It's a sign that your work and style is getting recognized. That being said, I believe it's time for you to ask local roasters for waste coffee to run through your new burr sets and grinders in order to season them before doing a full review. I'm sure that's more time consuming but it would definitely be a plus for your channel. The 078S burrs often need 5kg + before settling in. It's been covered by most reviews, Aramse's notably.
@@TheJolam80 Thank you very much for your kind comment. I contacted so many local roasters and 99% don’t even bother to reply. I had more luck getting some expensive gear than few bags of coffee.

If you do a follow up, try slow feeding the 078S for pour over. You're supposed to get much better results. I was surprised that it was pretty much on par with my 078 when I was able to try it that way, very limited comparison but still.
@@jonas5666 Thank you for the tip. It would be challenging with all the popcorning.
Bought the 78s a few months ago with usage of 3-5 cups a day and are still blown away from the extreme tight tolerances and the quality outcome of ground coffee. It rivals much more expensive grinders I had the chance to use before (were not mine though so limited exposure). I predominantly drink light or medium-light roasts from my region (SE Asia) and because of that only did fine to very fine grinds so far (0.3-0.8, mostly 0.4). Especially with these light roasts the improvements are gigantic. With dark roasts I wouldn't expect that much of a difference. This grinder is crazy in terms of low to no retention at all, what you put in you get out, down to 0.02-0.05 grams. It is crazy. The quality of my coffee improved significantly with the outcome of this grinder. The rpm wheel is no issue for me, I never change it anyways, always on max speed. The in build knocker is genius and contributes to the crazy low retention rate. The magnetic catching cup is not only genius and functional but also very cool and fun to use, every day. I love to use the brush - something I never used before. Negatives: The on/off switch has to be pushed evenly or it doesn't actuate. The round white plastic bits/ends inside the hopper did get a bit brown with time from the oil (you only see when the lid is off). Some broken pieces of bean fines tend to jump out of the hopper (just close the lid). Recently (after 3-4 months) with 0,3 grind setting (extremely fine) I started to hear the burrs occasionally making a slight touching noise. That was not the case in the first months - maybe that can be fixed with maintenance. I have to admit the tight tolerances give me respect to open the grinder and clean it... putting it back together might turn out to be a challenge - but it has to happen at some point. I don't like how the power cable comes out at the back, takes too much space towards the wall or anything behind it, a 90 degree cable would have been better. I do have a white model and yes is can collect some specs of coffee drips or dust but so far it is a pleasure to give it a wipe after using. Overall I love the 78s. I used a 58mm flat steel burr with a strong motor (super noisy) before and was happy with it. Now I am blown away by the difference. How quiet. The retention rate. The quality outcome. I consider the value spectacular, what you get for the price is hard to believe. Oh and even the female of the house is able to use the grinder without issues - it is very easy to use and get good results from. It will come down to how the grinder holds up over the years. My old grinder is over 20 years and still does the job respectably. Curious to see how Timemore will hold up, Chinese engineering and manufacturing versus Italian...
@@foodieontour Thank you very much for this comprehensive review. Looks like you would be running this channel better than myself 😁 Do you like it for pour overs as well?
@@mycoffeeshow111 love to watch your videos, please go on with those !! No pour overs for me for many years, which was also due to the limitations of my old grinder. Frankly I miss them, especially in the afternoon. Maybe I will give it a shot in the future with the Timemore. So far I thoroughly enjoy the results of the 78s and put more energy in trying all kinds of roasts from the region. Coffee roasting has and is picking up in Thailand, Laos, Myanmar. A lot of good stuff to find (in a pile of rubble).
@ Thank you very much! If you try pour over, please let us know how you liked it.
I personally really didn't like its workflow when I tried it - popcorns and I'm not crazy about the snap knocker. And the variable speed switch on the back is just bad design. I really do prefer using the Gevi Grindmaster, but it's not available for sale yet.
@@alexsechin9331 Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am still not famous enough to get Gevi to try for myself.
They've been working on that thing forever it seems!? The Test version you had seemed like it worked pretty well! Do you find you need to clean off the Ionizer for it to keep doing its anti-static thing properly? Apparently the DF64 Gen2, and maybe other grinders with ionizers have that issue.
@@mycoffeeshow111 I'll see if I can bring it next time I come visit ;)
@@BensCoffeeRants I've never had to clean the ionizer on neither the test, nor production version I've been using for a while now.
@@alexsechin9331 Oh nice, sounds like they placed the ionizer in a good spot then! Seems like on a lot of grinders it gets obstructed and then fails to work.
Thanks Jack! I had the same grinder but sold it because I didn’t like various aspects of it, like the speed indicator position you mentioned, and the difficulty of getting to the burs for cleaning or alignment. The first time I opened them up it took me over a half hour to figure out how to get them back in place properly. Compared to my Niche and DF64V where burr access is simple and fast, it just wasn’t something I wanted to continue using. Also, my kitchen is a bit dark and I always had trouble seeing where the grind setting was. The grind dial is on the front and the indicator line is on the side? Another bad design decision.
@@deathbert Thx for watching and sharing your thoughts. The access to the burrs can be an issue. So much so that I didn’t want to do it for this video in case I wouldn’t be able to put it back. I’m sure at some point they will improve on the rest of the issues.
I don't think you need to open up a grinder and clean it out, and hopefully the alignment doesn't need to be messed with on this one either. Niche (duo at least) and DF64's are more likely to actually need an alignment done, and not as likely to keep it anyway, so I wouldn't bother.
@@BensCoffeeRants I wouldn’t bother with alignment anyway- too much hassle
I really love my 078s for espresso. I'm not the biggest fan of the filter coffee it produces. It needs a ton of seasoning from my experience and it really needed 7kg until I got really good shots. I did also get the Turbo Burrs as well but I prefer my 64mm SSP brew. Looking back I should've gotten both 078 and 078s through the kickstarter, so I'd have one for espresso and one for filter. Also looking forward to the 78mm SSP burrs.
@@Max-ss2gy Thank you for sharing! Both 078 and 078s would be a great combo. Looks like I will have to keep seasoning it.
Brother how would you rate this against df64v
@@Sleexb I don’t have 64v , only 64 gen 2 but in theory, bigger burrs should open up flavour notes more. What would happen if I put SSP MP in DF64 and compare with this one, that is something I will have to check in the future.
With current burrsets I think the DF64V wins for light roast espresso as long as you put SSP burrs in it. Smaller, cheaper with a more pleasant sound. I'd recommend SSP MPv1 as they're not prone to stalling. For filter on the other hand it's a close call (at least compared to 078). Within a few months this could all change, when Lebrew and SSP releases new 78mm burrs.
@ I contacted Lebrew so far they haven’t responded. Would be nice to test their products.
Just like my shampoo and my soap, I'd much rather have better quality individual parts than an "all in one" or "jack of all trade, master of none" kind of approach but I can see people use that.
I don’t really know what to think about this. Will record a full review over the weekend. I like the tamper but not sure if I see the point of 3 in 1.
Do you prefer this one over the Felicita ARC ? It seems a bit tricky for pour over and I will do pour over AND espressos aha
@@Vanoual I would say definitely yes for espresso and when I travel but for pour overs I currently use Timemore Black Mirror
I got both and there are basically no difference for pour over coffee. Anyone who claimed can tell the differences are joking. From a basic scientific perspective the grind size is going to be within margin of error from adjustments. And people kept saying clarity, sweetness, sour criticness, etc etc like tasting wine... To be real not far before people will say rubber, wood bark, and dog poop taste.
@@RaymondLo84 you might be right. Or not. We would need proper scientific tests to prove that. Not sure if you believe in burrs seasoning, but if you do, we would have to compare those grinders at the same stage of that process, with the same rpm and exactly the same recipe, repeated for at least 100 times.
I use a dirt cheap scale from China because i don't need to "dig deep" into coffee 😅
@@DarkPa1adin good point. I will be reviewing some cheaper scales from Timemore soon.
You like the df83v or the df83 grinder better two im looking for as a ipgrade originally was looking at the df64 but the df83 has csught my eye more for some reason
@@CC-wolverine I would strongly recommend DF83v as one of the best options at this price point.
@mycoffeeshow111 thank you for the advise
That’s a clever idea. I hate having separate tools cluttering the kitchen worktop.
@@ascottydog0 It is smart indeed.
i made totally different experiences with the Kinu: more soft, rich and in a way full mouth than any other grinder, eben compared with some electrical types like df 64... perhaps it differs from bean to bean type?
@@tom_nuyts I think I agree. I sold it long time ago but I always enjoyed the coffee from it.
Would you recommend it as a travel pour over scale? Need a smart travel scale, and honestly I just love the design of the Bookoo.
@@aidaneldar I’m planning to use it as one. Ideally you would connect it to the app otherwise it might be difficult to read the numbers on the top.
@@mycoffeeshow111 Thanks! I might buy one just for traveling:)
Got both from Aliexpress, you basically paid extra for the magnet base, extra foldable handle, and a carrying case. K6 can do 99% of what K-ultra can do
@@RaymondLo84 they are both very good but there are some differences. I would go for K Ultra as it looks better.
Hi Jack! Question. I have 64mm ssp mp burrs and love them, favourite coffees are high clarity tea like brews. I am thinking about upgrading and I’m between changing my 64mm to the 83mm mp or adding the Timemore 078 and keeping the 64mm mp. Thoughts on whether you think the 83mm mp would be a large improvement compared to adding the 078, which I hear provides juicy brews and perhaps better for more processed coffees. Any thoughts, thanks!
@@JE-oq5jm I just finished recording a video about 078s which is very good for espresso and ok for pour overs. I have never tried 078 though so can’t say for sure. Currently DF83v with mp burrs is a go to pour over grinder.
@@mycoffeeshow111 thanks very much!
Do you prefer Jack 078s over df83v for espresso regarding taste and workflow?
@@7Miralas can’t answer that right now. I have ssp MP in my DF83v and are definitely better for pour overs but that is not a fair comparison. I will have my first video about 078s ready this week
I'd be interested in a "not smart" version, maybe slightly bigger, where I can see the weight and flow rate for espresso. I want some data, but I dont really want that much stuff.
@@kevinalvarado3724 size is what I love about this scale but I see your point. I have 5 less smart scales from Timemore to review at some point.
Wow it seems like this company just takes every product on the market and then clones it. So much soul!
