Thank you for sacrificing your family time for our benefit 😂. I got an 18g one the other day and am still in my trying it out phase.
Thx for watching! Please let me know how you like it.
@@mycoffeeshow111I do like it it’s my only one currently that I’m using
exactly the comparison i was looking for.
mainly because you have a lot of good info on the pesado itself, which this wasn’t supposed to be about but it was really useful for me
@@ferologics thx for watching. I have a dedicated Pesado HE video as well 😁
I can say, after many trial and error madness, that every machine, every basket, need the right extraction parameters
I use to work ar roast coffee warehouse and I remember that our blend, with la marzocco linea was good at 26" extraction, but with synesso hydra was good at 36"
Thx for sharing your thoughts. I guess every machine uses slightly different profile , different water flow ect which can affect overall results.
@@mycoffeeshow111 Yes, that's why it's wrong if we buy a coffee bean from a store that we already tasted there, and we are trying to take the same cup at home
Many parameters, different machine, different grinder etc, it can be as good, but never the same cup
For example, with a different machine or grinder, you may choose a different basket
You know how it is, I too tend to overthink, and that drives me crazy
@@wakeawaken430 I completely agree. That is what makes this hobby so interesting.
@@mycoffeeshow111my problem is, the first cup I made from the new package I bought from the store is always the best one. Somehow I've never succeed brewing the same taste like the first one.
I only opt to decaf coffee and Luwak coffee -- which is low in caffeine and low acidity
Thank you Jack great review as always! A lot of food for thought about roast level and differences with baskets!
Thx for watching! Next video should be a bit more straightforward 😁
I really like how you talked about the extraction times that you thought were the best for the various baskets. It would be nice to hear the same for similar HE baskets in the future!
Thank you very much. No basket is perfect for all coffees, profiles and ratios not to mention personal preferences. I still have DEX basket to review.
I have the Ikape and Pasado HE (L and XL) baskets. Jack you have an impossible job describing flavors and best use on a YT video. I don't personally agree with your statements and I think each basket works better at different temps, ratios, roast levels for each coffee.
I don't like how the Pasodo highlights roasty notes and I usually have to lower the temp to 80-85° to enjoy a longer ratio.
I don't like how big the Ikape basket is. I can fit 25g in it and have to use a puck screen if I dose less than 22g.
I have made delicious espresso shots from restretto to alongé on both baskets but at very different variables for the same coffee.
Thanks Jack and I hope you have a wonderful day!
Thx for watching and sharing your experience. That Ikape I have is not that big. They say 20g but 18 fits nicely in. Pesado (l size) seems much bigger.
The space on top of the puck can also influence the flavours, were more space would result in more clarity vs more body with less space. I was thinking about it during my tests but didn’t want to over complicate it. The temperature though, that I haven’t thought much about. How different baskets would prefer different temperatures.
Pesado never gave me over roasted flavour but fresh and juicy. Very interesting how we all notice different things.
I bought a MUVNA 51mm basket. It looks like an iKape model. Great construction although It tends also to channeling way too much, it's possible to get around using a paper filter in the bottom, but it's way too much a hassle to me. Ended up using my old basket (something like a NEOUZA model). Keep the good work man!
Thx for watching. Some Ikape models are available in 51mm as well. With those HE basket channeling is not necessarily a bad thing, unless you want to record videos for Instagram 😛
Man, you pulled me into the Coffee nerd world 😅
I was once only hobbyist for wild Luwak coffee with my V60, Vietnam drip (sucks), Aeropress, and now Staresso SP200M and Picopresso.
I know HE filter basket from you!
So, which one is the best HE basket? My favorite store only sell medium roasted beans.
Also, does HE basket is more suitable for pour-over, and Espresso would suits more with precision filter basket (like IMS) ?
I know nothing about coffee, I will try to follow your suggestion.
@@Kang_Guru. Thank you for watching. As for roast level, it is a bit complicated but in short you can use any coffee for any brew methods. Pour over roast is often less developed than espresso roast and some producers also sell omni roast to confuse us more.
Wafo soe/spirit is my favourite for light roast but for medium I would go for something like BEP from MHW if looking for something cheaper. Kafmasino are also good. I haven’t tried other baskets from Wafo but they also have some great options for medium coffee if you want to spend more.
@@mycoffeeshow111 is light roast your favourite?
@@Kang_Guru. I love all good coffee but often go for lighter roasts. My favourite are usually natural, anaerobic processed beans.
Thank you for another great video!
I got the Pedantry basket, which was quite a pair to get to the UK a few months ago and really enjoyed it whilst I was WDTing... Recently I've moved to the blind shaker and with the Pendantry basket I haven't nailed any shots with light roasts so I've reverted back to my VST basket.
In your TH-cam shorts I have seen the Pedantry basket. How does this compare? 😊
Thx for watching. I really liked PCL basket but haven’t tried it for a while. I will have to revisit it at some point. I still have DEX to review first.
I am definitely in WDT team.
Jack great video as always! I have wafo soe spirit I love this basket! What’s your go to recipe when you get a new light/medium roast coffee? Or at least the first recipe you’ll use with SOE spirit
Thx for watching. I recently use trendy 6 bar shots but Damian’s LM Leva is also great, 18g in, 45-50g out below 30sec.
Hi there! Great video!
Have you ever used the Ikape Beehive basket model? Do you know if the water passes through it much quicker than the other models? Thanks!
@@fratini. hi, thx for watching. I haven’t but I used some similar baskets and they are about as fast as any other HE basket. Even though the holes are big, there is that membrane inside.
@@mycoffeeshow111 Thanks for the explanation!
Is this beehive model easier to clean than the other Ikape models?
Can you do normcore high extraction baskets....
@@Badabid I will definitely think about it. Btw, I am reviewing 4 new filter baskets. Video will be available today.
Great video as always! Any thoughts on the Ikape vs. Kafmasino?
Thx for watching!Although I haven’t put them side by side, I would say they are very similar. I would go for whichever is cheaper.
I’ve just been binge watching your videos! But I need help getting a basket lol! I usually use Counter Culture Big Trouble! I believe it’s a medium roast but I’m between PCL, BEP, IKAPE, Wafo, ect, ect. Assuming money wasn’t a problem could you suggest 2 baskets to have fun with ? I mostly drink a medium to medium light roast!!!! I’m sorry for stealing time from your family!
@@PredxRaptor thx for watching. BEP or Kafmasino should be a good choice if one doesn’t want to spend much. If money is not the issue, Wafo would be my choice. For the coffee u drin Soe/Spirit is not ideal, but they have many other options. I know that they are very helpful if you ask them for advice on Instagram. All the best!
@@mycoffeeshow111 thanks I think I’ll try both the BEP and Wafo SOE/Classic. I’ll let you know how it goes! My grandpa just fixed up a Pasquini Livia 90. I have a delonghi dedica at home. It’ll be a nice upgrade for me. Fresh beans, basket and wdt have taken me pretty far!
@@PredxRaptor you should be happy with them. Please keep me posted.
@@mycoffeeshow111 So, I pulled 4 shots. Two with the WAFO classic and two with the BEP. The beans I use are a medium to medium dark? I’d say more medium. They’re from a local shop called Coffee Code with notes of blackberry, chocolate and bourbon? I think? Anyways, I pulled the BEP shots at 25 seconds and 30 seconds. I used similar grind settings with the WAFO and they extracted in 20 and 22 seconds. I did a blind taste test with my fiancé, myself and her mom. The goal was to distinguish the baskets and then try to establish the shorter shot and longer shot. My fiancé nailed it, I flip flopped the WAFO and her mom was only able to distinguish the baskets. But I was flip flopped because i thought I’d enjoy the WAFO more. The BEP extracted totally different flavors versus the WAFO…it was shocking, but my preference far leaned towards the BEP.
Now, I bought a light roast and light medium roast that I’ll do the same test on and see how the experience goes! Should I try to extract quicker or longer with the WAFO ? I thought around 20-22 would be ideal, I didn’t taste anything “off” it was just different? Not nearly as much fruitiness as the BEP but deeper flavors?
Great video as always jack! What profile on decent were you using for the baskets?
Thank you. I mostly used trendy 6 bar with different ratios (1:2 and 1.3). I also pulled some turbo.
@@mycoffeeshow111 nice, I have the Wafo basket and do allonges all the time with it for some delicious cups. I will give a shot to the trendy 6 bar 👍🏽
@@Jahloveipraise Allonge can be really good but too strong if you compare few different baskets.
@@mycoffeeshow111 haha yea you’d be wired man 😂
@@Jahloveipraise not sure if you have seen my Allonge videos- I was rumbling even more than usual 😛
Nice video! I'm interested in an H.E. basket, but do they have a tendency to clog after a while? I only wish to give the portafilter a quick rinse after each shot and there are enough variables in extraction without adding basket cleanliness.😅
Thx for watching. Yes, some holes can get blocked, but they unblock when brewing. I don’t think it would be a huge issue. Some like to use steam wand to clean them. I just soak mine in cafiza once a week.
@@mycoffeeshow111 Thanks for that. I might just try the Ikape basket, before I shell-out for the Wafu 😉
@@FatNorthernBigot Let the basket dry and then brush under the basket with a toothbrush.
Wich basket size should i go for if i want to use 18 to 20g of coffee with a mesh screen on top ?
Very good question. It would depend on how thick your puck screen is but if it is a thinn one you should be ok with 20g basket. The worst case scenario is you would need to use 19g instead of 20.
My friend, I have been watching you for a long time. But lately it has become increasingly difficult for me to do this due to my epilepsy. The special effects you add during editing kill me.
Hi, thx for watching and your feedback. Sorry to hear about your experience. Not sure what to say. I try not to overdo it. Tbh those special effects are one of my biggest joys when editing videos and something that keeps me doing it. Anyway, I only have few more videos to make b4 I take some time off YT.
