Sorry to hear about your dad. Ive dealt with family members with cancer, so i know the toll it takes. I hope he has a full recovery. Also im suprises you still havent gone with a tool less guide rod.
@@Avg_Vet I really appreciate that my friend! And I’m happy to report that my dad made a Miracle recovery! So far anyways. They said he’s 100% cancer free & it’s honestly a miracle from GOD with no doubt in my heart. My best friends dad was diagnosed with a less rare lung cancer the following week & unfortunately he’s no longer with us. So it’s not lost on me the incredible nature of my dad’s recovery. but I appreciate the kind words and I actually do run the tooless guide rod in my 5inch. The only one I don’t is my commander.
What would be your recommendation for a top tier 2011 duty gun? No budget.
@@blaynebradley9209 that is a bit of a loaded question my friend. And my honest opinion is that is hard to answer without talking about the price. I love my Atlas NYX V2 it is the top of the line no doubt. I would have gotten the atlas Hyperion if they had offered it Optics ready, but you have to special order to get it that way. The Hyperion is a 4.6 inch. Which I think fits nicely in the duty size. I have not actually shot or held the new Kimber 2K11 but my honest opinion it is the best buy on the market today! It is top-tier and the most bang for your buck. For example, staccato doesn’t offer a single model with an aluminum grip module. And that also includes their almost $5000 top model. All atlas guns come with an aluminum grip with a price tag of $5700 retail. (modern Warriors has a beautiful collection of Atlas and other 2011’s in stock. That is where I bought my Atlass and there is no sales tax) Kimber 2K11 comes pretty much identical to the Atlas for half the price. So my honest opinion is by the Kimber 2K11 and tune it yourself if required. I will be picking one up as soon as possible. If you wanted to buy a prodigy and turn it into an atlas or 2K 11. That can be done but not as cheap as you can buy the 2K 11 from Kimber.
Nice !!!! Hope you had a Merry Christmas !!!!! This is a fascinating subject. The finish on guns period can be a scary subject !!! 🙂
@@TheAmerican1963 thank you very much my friend! The same to yo, Merry Christmas to you & yours ! I do love a good finish & also like to experiment! I love DLC but I dislike that I can’t do it myself which sucks when it gets tore up. My favorite finish is something easily repaired at home. Without sacrificing durability & looks.
My issue is a false reset just short of where the trigger actually resets. I think this may be the fix since i have a small gap between the disconnector and rail. Thanks for the video!
You’re very welcome! I’m sorry you’re having issues and I hope this fixes your issue. Happy holidays to you and yours.
Does the firearm cycle and operate as it should after you did this? I figure it does with your other posts but just want a decent confirmation. I’ve been debating on doing this and like the idea!
Yeah it did cycle just as before but I bought a Norrso p365 XL spec ops slide and I love it. The slide cuts are awesome and i don’t need to rack the slide with my hand touching my optic. which always smears my holoson eps carry MRS.
Fuckin' foul standards. Fuck the State.
Yep. I put a slight 20-degree chamfer on the lower edge of the breach face using my end mill (not a big dremmel guy-but you do you), extending maybe 4-5mm back, and paired with heavier mag springs, my 4.25 runs FLAWLESSLY. I’ll swap to the EGW forged hammer/sear/disco and goto a 19# mainspring (maybe eventually a tool-less guide rod), but I don’t feel those are ‘musts’, but instead just added peace of mind on those impact parts.
@@msh441 use what you got my friend! I would recommend a 17 pound main spring or lighter. There’s really no need for a 19lbs mainspring for a 9mm. 19lbs is standard for 45acp. I run a 13lbs mainspring. The tooless guide rod isn’t a big deal I ran the original in my 4.25 inch but I did put a atlas tooless guide rod in my 5inch and it’s nice for looks and tearing it down without tools. It makes it easy to swap recoil springs. I run all EGW internals and a 8lbs Wolf recoil spring if I’m not mistaken. I definitely highly recommend the atlas IDPA Ambi safety’s. Or the wider Standard Ambi safety’s. They add an incredible amount of stability when shooting.
I think you might be confusing the mainspring, and the recoil spring, @ . 17# is stock for the 4.25 9mm, and a 12-13# recoil spring (10-11# on the 5”). Bumping up to a 19# mainspring adds a touch of trigger weight, but ensures detonation on those crappy hard primers we’re seeing everywhere at the moment.
The Springfield prodigy comes with a 19lbs mainspring & some say it’s actually 23lbs but at min 19lbs and a 12lbs recoil spring for 4.25 inch and a 10lbs for 5inch . The mainspring is the spring in the mainspring housing which engages the hammer strut. I run a 13lbs mainspring. I’m not at all confused. My 13 lbs mainspring has no issue with light primer strikes. But regardless to each his own, I like my set up it has run reliably over 20,000 rounds in the 4.25 inch and about 12,000 rounds in the 5 inch both set up very similarly.
Just going by what I was told by EGW @@americantrucker9813. I should’ve know not to question a master.

wanting to confirm more it is feed lip related as the issue is more apparent on jhps, it will not feed them even with a 12lb spring. however fmjs do feed ok as you showed. i have a checkmate mag, feeds the jhps no problem, just as you showed here with atlas mags. i took the spring and follower out of the checkmate and put it in the duramag, and it still will not feed correctly, so that shows it is the feed lips as you suggested.
Absolutely these mags can cause issues. And do require some tuning every now and again. My target practice mags get banged out of spec every so often and Atlas has a video showing how to tune your magazines. They have the specs for the feed lips, and I have found their tuning to be very reliable.
Nice nice very nice prodigy, what grip is that and what mag well it that they look amazing !!
@@jhonnymandonado3188 thank you my friend! That is the Cheely L2 grip module and Cheely Stainless Steel Tactical magwell from CCgunworks.com. I did modify the L2 grip to resemble the E2 grip. If I were to buy it again, I would definitely go with the E2. That is the style grip my Atlas came with
Just did mine with harbor freight needle files. I used the dimond coated ones and the ones that come in the blue pack with the handles. Then 1000 grit/1500 grit. Feels great

Would you say this is a good option instead of having it marvel cut?
@@mr3xklusiv this is the marvel cut.
Super dope piece
I'm really sorry about your dad, I went through the same thing a few years ago. One question: after you did the sandblasting on the slide what did you applied to it so it wouldn't rust.
@@ivanradi4275 thank you my friend and I’m very sorry to hear that! But it is bare metal (high carbon steel) it is very susceptible to rust but I’ve never had any issues with rust. I clean and oil it regularly. It’s not getting wet and being left outside or anything. I have had a few bare metal firearms and haven’t had any issues.
Great video! Thanks for the help. Best one i have found that wasn't all freaking talking about random shiz!
@@Crooksclubtv thank you my friend I appreciate that and your very welcome!
Is your frame and slide hard chrome finished? Brushed flats? Did DSC do the work by any chance? Looks awesome’
@@petern810 no sir, its actually bare metal. I sandblasted it at home. And used a scotch pad to do a brushed steel finish and some parts left alone with the look after sandblasting which gives a dark gray finish. But I appreciate that very much, my friend thank you.
Hardest 365 legion on the tube. I’m copying yours minus the polished finished. I don’t even know the first thing about that shine
@@alexjones2002 thank you my friend. I appreciate that!! it actually looks a bit different now. If you check out my channel, you can see the latest version. I changed the slide to the Norsso Spec ops slide and an armor black cerakote on the grip. I like the slide serrations on the norsso slide much better and they come with the DLC finish
I have a prodigy with a marvel cut, polished disconnector Rail, 8 pound recoil spring and Wilson combat buffer. My prodigy is really smooth but not nearly as smooth as yours sounds. Your 5 inch sounds almost as equivalent to like a nighthawk trs comp or a staccato XL. How did you get your action that smooth?
@@avery6600 have you replaced your main spring? Mine is around 13 lbs. some 17 pound main Springs aren’t actually 17 pounds. I found a lot of variations in main Springs. But the lighter the main spring, the better. But if it’s too light, you will have light primer strikes. And as you get rounds on it, it will become smoother. But I wouldn’t recommend polishing the frame rails. It’s better to allow them to polish themselves organically. The risk of polishing yourself is a sloppy slide to frame fit. And there’s no easy fix for that. But I also run an 8 pound recoil spring and everything else sounds the same so maybe try with the main spring.
Did you sandblast or sand the grip module?
@@biggskristofer I sandblasted it, I wouldn’t recommend sanding aluminum. It’s too soft and it tears up the material too easily.
@@biggskristofer also the Legion is Actually a very ideal gun for stainless. The slides are Stainless Steel & the grip is Aluminum so very natural corrosion resistant materials.

Does the 1913 pistol rail key from the TLR-7 Sub fit the TLR-7A?
@@Matthew6_33 no it does not my friend. The TLR-7 and 7 sub are different body designs so the keys are different. But the keys are made of polymer and can be easily modified via a Soldering iron or can be sanded for a Tight, custom fit. I have modified all of mine for a flush and tight fit.
What coating you got on the barrel?
@@brianrussi4328 carakote armor black H-190
Pretty cool
Thank you!
I had great luck in the beginning. Now I’m getting roughly 2-3 failure to ejects waiting on a new extractor hope this is the only issue
Is your extractor broke? Did it past the tuning test? It sounds like you just need to tighten your extractor.
Or your barrel chamber could have been reamed too tight and with carbon buildup, maybe different ammo or variations in the same kind of ammo it’s required significantly more force to pull the round out
@@americantrucker9813 well Iran roughly 1000 flawless rounds only to have this issue come up. 1000 seems kinda light to need to adjust the extractor but yes I did tighten in a bit it passed the tune test of not falling out after 6-7 shakes and rotations. And still having the same issue. As for the barrel and build up. It’s spotless. For it to be reamed to tight 1000+- rounds in the beginning should have had issues. I guess I’ll start with the extractor as several have said this fixed the their issues. Thank you for the input
Did you happen to change ammo after the thousand rounds? If you were like me and you buy in bulk. The batch might have been different. I’m not kidding. When I say I ran at least 6000 rounds through mine before I figured out the barrel was reamed tighter than the Atlas. And I only use like one of three kinds of cheap FMJ ammo. But when I tried a different brand this when I figured it out. but if the extractor is too tight, it will give the same symptoms as a barrel reamed too tight. I’d recommend just checking all the above. I agree after 1000 rounds it should have improved so something is definitely out of tune.
And I’m sorry I didn’t see this sooner! Having problems with your gun is the worst. It’s super stressful, but I’m confident that once you get all of the issues squared away and tuned properly it will be the most reliable handgun someone can buy.
Awesome video. Please use better lighting if you’re trying to show stuff like fitment but other than that very informative
@@brianrussi4328 thanks and sorry my friend, I do the best I can with what I have. I don’t make anything off of these videos. Hence, the no commercials and no ads. I just try to share my experiences and opinions, with my fellow freedom loving Americans! But if this trucking market ever bounces back, I will certainly invest in some better equipment to make better content.
@ I haven’t gotten a prodigy yet but I’ve been getting parts for it so when I do get one I’ll have all the mim parts gone and polished internals before I shoot it
It is definitely an awesome gun to customize and make it your own. Once you get it, I just recommend checking the head spacing in the barrel and the extractor. It would be ideal to check the head spacing in the chamber before buying it, but that will depend on the dealer you purchase it from. Considering the easiest way to check is with some different live rounds.. but I’m sure they sell a tool to measure. I have two prodigies. The 4.25 and 5 inch and the head spacing in the chamber was too tight on the 4.25 and the extractor was too loose on both. Which is an easy fix. The biggest thing is to just make sure it is tuned properly. Because regardless of the parts, if they are out of tune it will be less than reliable. Which is why this gun got such a bad reputation. None of them are built badly. It is an excellent quality quality firearm. Springfield just dropped the ball on quality control. I’m guessing to keep the price point low they basically assembled and shipped.
@ I’m not sure how to check the head spacing 😂 and no ffl I know will let up check with live rounds I could just buy and immediately send to Springfield for the chamber ream and Polish. What’s your front sight? Kensight??
@brianrussi4328 well I’d recommend just grabbing a few different brands of 9 mm ammo and when you get home, remove the barrel and put different types of ammo into the chamber. They should slide right in and fall right out with gravity. And they should go all the way in. If a specific brand does not fit try a different round from that brand. And if it is clear that only certain ammo will fit in and come out properly, then send the barrel or entire gun to Springfield but they won’t just take it unless there’s something wrong with it. it would certainly be faster to take it to a local gunsmith for reaming if it is under size. But hopefully you won’t have that issue. My 5 inch was perfect.
Your carry mag? You carry that?
@@ShenryRNBSN this video is old but yes, I did for over a year and now I carry a 5 inch prodigy that I overhauled.

Hey man, I have an unrelated question because I know that you know your shit with these prodigy’s. Is there an option out there for a tool less guide and a keyed reverse plug for the 4.25?
@@jtrawson442 You’re fine, my friend that’s what I am here for and absolutely! I recommendAtlas tooless guide rod it is a little more expensive than some, but it is certainly the best in my opinion. And to find the keyed reverse plug for the 4.25 inch prodigy go to egwguns.com/springfield-4-reverse-plug-blue-sp425-1
@@jtrawson442 the link I sent is for the .332inch reverse plug that is the correct size for your factory guide rod and also Atlas tooless guide rod which you can find here atlasgunworks.com/product/4.25-tool-less-guiderod-dlc. They do sell a stainless version without the reverse plug cheaper. And they do so a DLC version without the reverse plug that is also cheaper, but it shows it being out of stock. and it is only like $10 more for the DLC version with the reverse plug. I do believe but check out their website I could be wrong.
@@americantrucker9813 thank you friend. I tried getting this info on Reddit but no one would say or knew if they worked together.
Yeah, it’s kind of a rabbit hole and it can get expensive if you start ordering stuff that doesn’t fit! But as long as your application is a prodigy 4.25 inch than the information I have provided you will work my friend! Let me know if you have any problems!
@@americantrucker9813 thank you good sir!! You’re a great help
Good video sir. Some minor adjustment coming from a classic 1911 year down world. This helps a LOT. Took mine down new outta the box and cleaned it up.. polished the fire control surfaces and adjusted my sear spring. It took it from what must have been 5.25 lbs to around 3.
@@Jdinaz thank you I appreciate you you! Just remember Springfield does zero tuning. I have two prodigy’s and both of them had out of tune extractors. So it wouldn’t hurt to pull your slide. Remove your barrel and guide rod. And use a new round for weight purposes and insert it behind the extractor against the breach face. Rotate your slide 360°. The bullet should not fall out. You should be able to shake the slide 5 to 10 times and then the bullet should fall out. The last part is really subjective because of the variations. But if the bullet does not stay secure while you rotate 360° it is too loose. And you will need to tighten it a little bit. I have a video that is pretty recent showing my brand new 5 inch prodigy unable to secure around at all.
@@americantrucker9813 I’ll check it. The extractor SEEMED to be pretty tightly sprung with quite a curve in it. I’m pretty pleased with the machining and assembly this far. Great slide to frame. No goobers to speak of anywhere. No mush in the thumb or grip safeties. I have high hopes for it. But the trigger was definitely attorney proof.
@@Jdinaz they are definitely well-made firearms! Don’t mistake what I said, saying they are junk. Most of them just need a simple tuning. I will say the slide to frame fitment is very nice unfortunately they were fitted after cerakote so once the coding wears off the frame rails. It won’t be as tight. But the simplest fix for that is to keep it lubed nicely. If you have any feeding issues, or ejecting issues. The first thing I would check as I said would be the extractor, but also the chamber reeming. You can easily check that by taking the barrel out and inserting all of the different types of ammo you use. The bullets should go in and fall out Via gravity alone. I found on my commander. It was a little tight and didn’t like some ammo. But my 5 inch was perfect.
Did your Atlas come with the marvel cut as well or did you do it yourself? Thanks for the video.
Yes, the atlas comes with the marvel cut. And I should add I would do no such thing to such an expensive firearm. I’ve made material modifications to the atlas. Just some cosmetic upgrades. And I had to cerakote their grip module because the DLC coding wore off so very fast. Definitely the weakest DLC coating I’ve ever seen.
@@americantrucker9813 I did the marvel cut to my 1911 myself with a file and it is as smooth as butter. Does most 2011 have the marvel cut as well, the reason why they’re so smooth? Thanks again.
It is definitely an improvement! That is why I recommend it but I would imagine that the higher end 1911s & 2011s have it but I don’t know. I do know it would cost money to do it and most places are all about making money. So some probably don’t.

@@RedRoFC zaffiriprecision.com/product/barrel-sig-p365xl-flush-crown-tin-gold/ barrel link
Does it shoot better with the longer barrel?
Well, I think that is honestly subjective. I think so personally and I think I’m more accurate with it but to get it to fit, you have to modify the slide so there’s no way for me to put the old one in to do a close comparison I wouldn’t recommend modifying the slide. I ended up buying a new slide anyways because I didn’t like the slide cuts. I bought the spec ops slide from norrso and it is excellent! It comes with a DLC coating that is top notch but it’s probably a waste of money to be honest
What mag pouches are you using, I like the angle. Thanks. Just subscribed, I’m digging your channel!!!
Thank you, my friend and I have two different dual mag pouches with a belt clip. I believe I got one of them from Amazon and one from Cabela’s, but they are pretty much all the same in the fact that you can adjust the angle of the belt clip.
Sorry to hear about your father. I’ll keep your father, you and your family in my prayers.
@@airmann4673 I really appreciate that my friend it is much needed! Thank you very much. God bless you and yours!
Really, sig romeo.
the hammer doesnt want to stay down. any help?
@@Bazzmotives I can certainly help my friend! Stay down against the Firing pin ? Or stay down as in cocked ?
@@Bazzmotives if it’s not resting on your firing pin than it could be your hammer strut may be too short and the lack of main spring engagement with the strut is allowing the firing pin spring to push the hammer back a small amount. Easy fix, hop on eBay or egw and order a 1911 hammer strut. Possibly buy an oversized strut (it may say gun smith fitment required) and you’d just sand off what you don’t need or just leave it as is and run a light 17lbs mainspring
@americantrucker9813 stay down cocked. I tried ur way and it wasn't it. I figured it out. It was the leaf spring sitting a certain way
You’ll have that but you’ll get the hang of it and it’ll be like the back of your hand. I’m glad you got it squared away buddy.
I don’t think that is truly DLC then bud. Also, the base metal must be carbon steel you think? Would it be better to get a DLC over SS? I’d love another video with better lighting or outside in the sun.
@@HammerK99 lol that really did make me laugh. Atlas selling $6000 guns with fake DLC that would be hilarious but no it is not fake DLC and I have yet to see a 1911 slide made of stainless steel. You cannot Blue stainless steel by the way. All of the 1911 slides I have are made of carbon steel, which is easy to blue. I have a stainless steel P3 65 XL slide with DLC coating and it is very similar except it is harder to cover up any scratches. I’ll see if I can make another video. I get some.
@@americantrucker9813 I understand, I understand. I’m looking at DLC now because of how well they hold up on my ZT knives I just watched an Atlas Gunworks video and he’s using the terms DLC, PVD, and TiNi as synonyms , when they are not. He’s also blaming being sweaty and Florida weather for corrosion on their DLC. Confusing to me since DLC is extremely corrosion resistant and it is never referred to as being the same as a PVD. DLC has a HRC as high as 67 making “scratches” from your kydex holster very suspect. As to your comment that 1911 slides aren’t made in SS, that is hilarious. Congratulations on having a $6000 firearm. Not sure of the pertinence of such a comment.
@@HammerK99 OK expert. you’re just one of those know it all guys who is very narcissistic I own 16 1911s some of which are 2011s which is the same thing and none of them have a stainless steel slide but apparently you are the God of everything lol
@@HammerK99 the pertinence of the comment was as stated, very sarcastically, as if atlas gun works with an impeccable reputation in the competition shooting and custom gunmaking community are just somehow selling $6000 guns with fake DLC coating because some guy on the Internet says so
Sorry about your dad man
@@Johnwick2point0 thank you my friend! I appreciate that!
