My only constructive criticism to this video is that it would have been nice to have seen this demonstrated with a fabric that has a clearer right and wrong side. As a beginner, I had to watch the pockets part a few times!

I LOVE this bag! I'm definitely going to make at least one!! I've made all kinds of tote bags. The ones I've made were pretty straightforward but I used heavy fabrics and in some cases had to use interfacing to make the fabric more sturdy. I've wanted to make a cross body tote but never found the right pattern. This one ticks off all the boxes for me. Thank you for sharing and giving excellent directions. I’m using this as a base to make a few dresses and skirts for an upcoming beach vacation - thank you so much for giving me confidence! Also - maybe it’s just me - but self drafting feels so much more manageable to do for a weekend project rather than finding patterns, having to print, assemble everything, cut them out... I tend to lose steam and give up without actually sewing anything, or I feel like I’ve wasted too much time and rush the actual sewing, resulting in a poor quality garment I don’t want to wear out in public. This helps me keep momentum and keep sewing!

Wow. Impressive sewing shed and I love your DIY efforts with the whole project. Just started watching your videos today -- right now I'm turning a bedroom into a sewing room so I can teach my 8 year old and six year old granddaughters how to sew. We are starting with quilted turkey placemats for Thanksgiving. I'll be watching your videos often. Thanks for sharing your space.

Your patterns and ideas are always the best!!! You mentioned the batting loft being a bit too thick for the machine and since I know you do a lot of these quilted garments I wanted to recommend a walking foot/even feed presser foot! It’s what we use for making quilts to deal with the increased volume of the layers and has made a huge difference for me! :)

I was cracking up at the beginning when you were talking about being hesitant to use the gauze because, in what can only be described as a moment of complete delusion, I made my quilted Syd Tie Dress with a double gauze instead of linen. Absolute nightmare of a decision that drove me to the brink of insanity while I worked through the construction 😂 (BUT it did end up being beautiful and SO comfortable and breezy for summer!)

I grew up with a Mother who was a really good sewer. She made winter coats for her children and many evening gowns for herself. I have made a few things in my life. But it was never a good sewer. I wish I had the skills to make alterations and the occasional basic item. I enjoyed watching you create these items.

This video series is amazing! I feel ready to sew my first pattern and I happen to have the same machine as you. You're a joy to watch, too. Pattern is from Sew House Seven...a good one not on your list!

For me, it's just tracing patterns and then having to cut out the pattern-urhhhh. That's the biggest hurdle. Once that's out of the way, everything is a breeze.
