AYO!!!! I just followed along and made this bag without a single meltdown. This has never happened before and it's all thanks to your AMAZING, thorough tutorial and well made pattern. THANK YOU! I can now make my dream bag in all kinds of variations. I am STOKED. Great stuff 100/100 would recommend.
I know this is almost a year old but I just made my first one and felt so confident because of you! The top stitching part definitely wasn't easy but thank you so much for being so warm and welcoming and easy to understand! And thanks for spending hours sewing with me hahaha
Just stoppet the video for a second after I watched the topstitching part along the bottom. A great tip to at least make half of the topstitching easier - do it after you stitched the bottom to the first side, easypeasy. And as someone else commented - press as you go along - a key to make your projects look professional.
Can’t recommend this more!! I made the quilted version of this bag so the layers were thicker and topstitching was so difficult… luckily I saw this comment before making it and it really helped. 20:16
I really love how your taste and style are always so chic. My favorites are the *condup* leather backpack and the Swarovski pavé diamond ring so gorgeous. Thank you for your suggestion
Excellent tutorial with good instructions. The tips you offer along the way (including the use of 2 billion pins lol) will prevent sewers from making some very common & frustrating mistakes!
I bought the best bag sewing pattern during a sale Blackbird had 1-2 weeks ago. I haven’t gotten around to sewing it yet and am so glad you beat me to it with the sew along. Thanks for the detailed instructions and helpful tips!
Very helpful tutorial - the pattern instructions are, of course, excellent, but I'm a very visual person and a video tutorial is always so useful and yours is quite excellent. Thanks so much!
Just started learning how to sew and this is my first project! I bought the pattern a few days ago and then you released this 😮 So excited to try it out. Thank you so much, this tutorial rocks
This was recommended to me and honestly KUDOS on the quality of the tutorial. I had no plans to make this but might now just because this is so clear and straightforward! Great job! Great angles and details! 🎉
Fantastic tutorial thank you! I used this alongside the pattern instructions and found it super helpful. Love your bag. I’ll certainly be making another 😊 xx
OMG! I've been following you on tiktok for a little while and have been in love with your quilted version of this and now here you are showing up on my feed here! I'll take that as a sign to finally make this bag!
I’m a huge fan of the Love to Sew podcast and follow the success of both Blackbird Fabric and Helen’s Closet. 👏👏 I’m keen to make one of these babies, so happy that the pattern you are demonstrating comes from these clever gals. Thanks for posting!
Great tutorial I’ve been working on my first Bestie bag. I always learn something new when I watch your videos. I had no clue that I could lift my presser foot up higher than when you just release it. lol still a beginner but I’m learning every day
I really love the bag and the trousers. I will definitely make both. My daughter wears exactly these styles and I would too. Thank you. Make more videos…..please! 😀
This is an excellent tutorial!! Thank you for making this! Your bag is so cute, thinking i may need to make a corduroy version for winter if my first attempt goes well!
Is there anyway you can also make a video on how you quilted the red bag you made and the bows? With details just like this one! Please and thank you ❤
Thank you for the video! I am making this bag with teddy fabric (curly furry soft) and i was wondering if i have to do the backstitch or if its unnecessary? thank you in advance
Thank you so much for making such an awesome visual guide for this pattern-I was thrilled to find your video while searching for bag tutorials! Quick question though: What brand and style # of interfacing did you use for this project? Thanks again for sharing your work-it’s been so helpful and I look forward to future videos on your channel!
I’m currently following your tutorial and making the bag! The zipper part is not as perfect as yours… but since I’m a beginner I can live with the imperfections 😅. Thank you for the video! I’ll try to add bows wheb it’s done.
Can anyone answer this Q, at 11:06 my zipper with tabs is the correct length, however it doesn’t fit like hers. I can’t line it up in the middle then the sides because then there is too much fabric between the 2( hopefully that makes sense) the only thing I can think to do is lengthen the zipper tabs. Tho I’m not sure why this issue is happening. I’ve checked my body fabric against the pattern and it is still the cut out size. Not stretched or anything. Any help?
If you're new to sewing and reading this, I am begging you to PLEASE IRON YOUR SEAMS AS YOU GO. People who have been sewing a long time can probably get away with doing this, but I swear it will make your life easier. Yes, it adds extra time... but do you want your project to look crisp and professional or look home-made? Take the time and do it right.
I’m impatient so I’ll use an iron on interfacing and skip the lining. Will also buy strapping and swerve making it myself. Fingers crossed all goes well.
Ok, 15:02 is throwing me. Her inner stitch with the black lining is finished off so nice. I cannot figure out how to repeat the steps to get the other side looking as nice. So confused. I know it is such a simple fix but I’m struggling 😂
The zipper tabs would finish the bag better if the zip was enclosed inbetween and not just sewn on top of the zip as from the inside there is still the raw zip exposed. Every other bag or pouch I've sewnnwith a tab do it that was and it's a far nicer end result. I've also seen a vlogger mention that the internal pocket is just turned over and stitched so the interfacing can still be seen, yet the other pocket is self faced. Maybe a mistake in the pattern drafting?
You shouldn’t snip the zipper. Using a fabric marker would be the best choice. If you must snip, you should use a lighter to stop the zipper fabric from fraying.

Hello, first of all, I would like to say thank you for teaching this beautiful and practical bag. Honestly, I wanted to know if there is another way to get the pattern of this bag other than the link you posted? Because my country is embargoed and I can't get it 🥲🥲🥲
@@HiSydGraham Im dumb pls point it out, where is it in the website bc it isn’t in the pdf pattern neither. I cannot find the yards of fabric, inches of zipper etc😭😭
The zipper length is listed on page 6 of the pdf instructions and the fabric requirements are on page 8. If you're still having trouble, I'd recommend reaching out to Blackbird's team.

A tip…avoid lining a bag with dark fabric. A lighter fabric helps you see items inside the bag more easily.
And easier to sew for me, I really struggle with dark fabric 😂
But keep in mind it will be filthy very quickly 🤣
right~~~

I made this from an old pair of cord jeans and I love it 😄 mashed it together in an evening ready to take out tomorrow 🎉
Amazing see along. So easy to follow. Thank you!!!🎉
This tutorial is my life, great visuals and narration. Beautiful. 100000/10
Great project, and I’m impressed the position of the zipper foot riding over the zipper when you did the top stitch.

A superb tutorial and good fundamental understanding of sewing as I learned so many years ago. Lovely to watch. Thank you Sydney!

Did you finish? I’m not great at sewing and have never really finished a pattern through and through. Was it doable for a beginner? 😀
^im wondering this too!

You can pass the zipper pull just by lifting the needle. No need to move the foot.
Thank you for a great video ☺️
This is EPIIIIIIIC 😍
Does the top sticking have a purpose or is it for aesthetic reasons only? I recently bought the pattern and can't wait to get started, great tutorial!
Will be adding this to the list of projects I want to do!🤞🏼❤️
wow thank you so much for sharing, it is beautiful, i love the color as well

how much fabric do you need for both the lining, outside fabric, strap and so on because i can’t find it in the video thank you 🫶🏼
You need to download the pattern.
Those notches are ginormous
You shouldn’t snip the zipper. Using a fabric marker would be the best choice. If you must snip, you should use a lighter to stop the zipper fabric from fraying.
I love that bag! question, what size of needle did you use for this fabric?
I just used a regular universal needle!
Noticed that you didn’t get an answer to what you actually asked. My suggestion is to use a size 90.
Strange, my pattern says cut 2-Self; 2-Interfacing (optional) nothing about lining!!!
