I love your chill attitude 🫶🏻 love that you’ve been saying “you’ll be fine” a lot, very comforting for beginners!

I love the perspective of learning and self care! I'm constantly feeling guilty for 'wasting money and resources' (even on thrifted fabrics whilst I'm learning) and my husband is forever telling me that investing in a hobby that I enjoy and learning new skills is worthwhile and that the mistakes help me learn 😊😊

See and I need to have that perspective 😅 but I'm working on getting there! Therapy helps lol

hey Sydney, sorry if my English isn't good is not my first language. I recently discovered you and let me tell you that I love you and your content. My parent bought me a sewing machine on my birthday 2 week ago after a year of crocheting and I would be lost without your help. Thank you so much, I finished the tote bag yesterday and is amazing my partner loved it and even told me that I should make my grandma who's birthday is at the end of this month one as a present. i definitely couldn't do it without you thank you so much I have a lot to learn yet but you put me in the right path

I just went to scrap in Portland, OR the other day, and they have soooooo much fabric!! It was super cheap and quantity depended on each thing, but so awesome!! it’s a nonprofit craft store that’s such a dream

I started with a singer heavy duty machine but returned it because it didnt sew slow enough for me! I ended up with the singer quantum stylist 9960 and I loveeeee it! It has a turtle mode. 😎

If a pattern says you HAVE to use a surger, can I still get away with the zig zag stitch on my machine?

    Another tip for sewing straight!
I found guidelines super useless to follow because sometimes the store or I would cut the fabric wonky.
So draw a straight line with a pen on the fabric and follow that!
Also I found the way you hold your fabric/push it through the needle is important - I use my hands to kind of walk through the fabric only moving one hand at a time. Id move both hands and it would tilt and my line would be wonky - after ur used to the drawed lines and the walking of the hands following rhe guides is much easier!

Drawing lines 😮😮 I never thought of that!! 🤦🏽‍♀️ Thanks!! I'll be trying that next time!!

@CarrinasCorner you can also use your iron to kind of fold those lines without pencils, sometimes I use both methods :)
(Pencils and stretchy fabrics aren't best friends I come to find 😪) Best of luck on your journey!!

I would also love some insights on using upcycled material? Maybe of you dont really do it you could just do a walkthrough of what can be substituier and so on? Like i wondered if i could make a jacket for my daughter out of old quilted blankets or wool blankets or what type of garment can be made out of old bedsheets and so on..

I was also wondering if the quilt hanging on the wall was from a pattern.

I somehow always manage to dice up my fingers with a rotary cutter. Do you have any suggestions? I'd be sewing way more if I didn't injure myself every time I cut fabric.

is the quilted tapestry in your background from a pattern?

Do not buy cheap fabric. I didn’t think I could sew bc everything looked bad. I don’t shop hobby lobby or Joann’s! Shop at a known quilt shop for bags and cute things !
