Hope Mono 6 Ti - Service. Seal, Issues & A Man Talking Too Much
The mighty mono 6? No idea, I have never used them but they look rather nice.
I do not talk about any mounts in this video.
One day I will have the skills to just make a quick video for such matters.
Until that time, you will have to sift through the time stamps for the information.

    I am woundering if freezing the endcap would have a best result because ice can contract de metal and turn it loose... hot water dilated the metal turn it even more tighter. But for you heating the metal turn it loose... how come?

    • @Chambers36TheEnter
      @Chambers36TheEnter 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The issue of freezing is that there's a rubber o ring inside the end up and rubber can become brittle when frozen. I doubt the rubber gets hot enough to cause it damage when using this hot water method. I guess this method works because the axle that the end cap is stuck on is much bigger than the end cap. So the axle can absorb more heat before it expands, meaning the axle probably doesn't expand in the heat and the end cap does when using this method.

    Thankfully Fox (at least used to) build their products with quality materials, including details like the small bolt that holds the retainer plate in place. Even so, before threading that back in, apply some anti-seize compound (lube) to its thread. This to reduce the risk of having the thing stuck in place and stripping it out when the time comes you need to remove it again.

      Not a bad idea that. It's only a little screw so wouldn't take much torque to cause issues.

    This was soooo satisfying to finally get working again. I had watched another video which was really great but this had a few extra key bits of information. The plastic cover going under the washers, and showing how the bolt and cover over interact and tighten up too far to restrict the lever. For me the little plastic external twist bolt thing was so lodged into the inside bolt it all came out as one and I think this was the original cause for the lever tension being too great. But for the life of me, I couldn't undo that plastic cross shaped bolt out of the lever by itself. I needed vicegrips to remove it from the inner bolt in the end! And then reassemble. Thanks so much for making such a detailed video. Getting that crisp click back is so good.

    Great clear video. Any knowledge of using the braided hose with Shimano components? Hope sell a type O set with "all the fittings", but I can't find instructions. There's a connector with a cone-shaped end that looks like it goes into the lever/calliper and leaves the appropriate end sticking out for the shroud. I assume this just gets screwed in and then the rest of the connectors used as normal?

    • @Chambers36TheEnter
      @Chambers36TheEnter หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the feedback. I have not had any recent dealings with the Shimano stuff. From what I remember it's like you say it just screws into the lever. It almost works like a bleed nipple where the tapered end just seals without the need of any actual rubber seals or olives to crush and then you have a threaded end on it for the should to attach when then either clamps or threads onto the hose to keep it secure. The only issue for this is knowing how much torque is needed. I'd probably try and email some hose manufactures like goodridge and see if they can help. Generally with the Hope stuff it's 8nm but then they are stainless fittings and have a crush washer to seal. I'm guessing the ends look similar to this - www.free-ride.it/en/prodotti/goodridge-hose-and-fittings-m8-x-075-swivel-steel-retailers/

    Excellent tutorial! I have a Giant Cross City bike and that has a freehub that is accessed on the left side (through the wheel) not on the right through the freehub. The locking nut takes a 12mm Allen key (I used a Kinchrone SCMV 12 100mm long, 1/2" socket) and turns to the left to release for those unsure of their setup. The bearing race on the left side prevents the freehub lock nut from being removed without removing the race itself, which I didn't bother to do. Bike mechanics say Giant are notorious for over-tightened free hubs, but it came off easily using torque from a longer socket wrench or pipe as per the video.

    Great video as always. Amazed there is so much flex in a solid piece of metal! But, there is no way I can get that much lever throw after the bite point as you have. Maybe I have weak hands... lol. But seriously, no way. That said, I struggled to get a solid feel on the rear brake, but after a few bleeds and careful alignment, it is very close to the front now which is super solid. On the trails I love these brakes, but they are a huge hassle to set up reliably and take an age to bed in and settle. I really wish they had a bleed port at the master cylinder instead of the lid, as often I got a good bleed and then it messed up on putting the lid back on.

    • @Chambers36TheEnter
      @Chambers36TheEnter 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting, thank you. Apart from the reservoir lid being messy as dot fluid spills over when you put it back on I don't mind it. Also I should have said that this was a brand new system so still had the 2000mm hose attached. That would make things worse when it comes to flex in the system and the lever being able to come back to the handle bars.

  • @Slav-ig7cj
    @Slav-ig7cj 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yeah, same story with mine, if you push the lever really hard the caliper flexes a bit. I didn't get it on camera, but it seems to feel it with fingers, if squeeze the caliper with hand and push down on the lever. With V4 the situation seems to be better, it is more monolithic. But even with E4 I don't see any problems, because even with a lighter pressure the rear wheel is already locked.

The one difference is how stringent GORE is about manufacturing techniques and the requirement to send the item to GORE for testing.

      Thank you. I have been using "adidas Men's Terrex 'Eastrail 2.0 Mid RAIN. RDY" boots and had good results with them. www.adidas.co.uk/eastrail-2.0-mid-rain.rdy-hiking-shoes/GY4174.html £66 delivered but there's limited sizes left.

    Great video thanks! Helped me a lot so far but still need to order some tools to get the bearing press over the thru axl. The sockets at 23:50, where did you order those? Or how are they called? Are they specifically for hubs or just some custom tools? Thanks!

      They are tools made by hope. HHTT182 & HTT1004 Hope Pro 2 Hubb bearing support. Yes they are specifically for this kind of job.

      Well normally people just service the hub when it's laced to a rim but I received this only as a hub so made the video. Cost is about £30 for the bearings vs a new wheel which would be like £200+ for this kind of spec

      I have never tried. The seals tend to soften once they have swollen so they loose the shape not just their size.

      There should be some rubber rings inside the caps, there is a groove for them to sit into.

    Did you ever work out the source of the axle play? I have a full wheel with one of these that has some axle play even when assembled and on the bike. Sounds like yours is only with the end caps removed?

    • @Chambers36TheEnter
      @Chambers36TheEnter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I never found the source sadly. To me it seemed like the axle wasn't in spec. The lips on the axle were every so slightly too close together so when in installed it was able to rock back and forth from one bearing to another. Yes, for me adding the end caps removed the play as then the hub is held in place in the bikes frame. Mine was only side to side play. If you have play where you can rock the wheel back and forth it might be an issue with the bearings, but if they are new bearings and not loose then yes it's potentially the axle that's the issue.

    24:26 Why not press it at this point with that extension bit?

    • @Chambers36TheEnter
      @Chambers36TheEnter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's because I wouldn't be able to use a normal press drift on the opposite side because none of the press drifts have a hole in the middle big enough to slide over the hubs axle. I only have that one silver tool. If I had 2 then I could press both bearings back into the hub but I might need a longer thread for the press then.

  • @tylerseboe
    @tylerseboe 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    4:30 Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t this design require full bearing replacement because the axle ridge (?) pushes on the inner race during extraction? Maybe just one side because after pushing the axle out in one direction, a proper bearing extractor could be used for the other side.

    • @Chambers36TheEnter
      @Chambers36TheEnter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would agree, with this method I would always change both bearings. Because, like you say the axle is pushing against the bearing and if you're hammering it, it could damage it. An extraction tool would be good for saving the bearing if that's what you require.

    • @tylerseboe
      @tylerseboe 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Chambers36TheEnter Agreed, but you could only get an extractor out after one side is hammered out because the inner sleeve is in the way initially.
