Top Five 2024 Sewing Makes
Welcome to a review of my sewing makes. 2024 was a very good year in my sewing journey. I made a lot of useful and beautiful garments. I have selected my top five to share in this video. I hope you enjoy seeing the items I picked.
I purchased fabric from several shops. The Lise Tailor viscose came from Jones and Vandermeer.
www.jonesandvandermeer.com/?srsltid=AfmBOor-tmizdyUssiQEjIRJXDuZ7UtbsOmYxGC5foSG4-iXN9a4Fm8_
The Atelier Jupe viscose I purchased either from Stylemaker Fabrics or Beyond The Pink Door. They both carried this beautiful fabric. I waited too long to purchase it because I was only able to get a remnant when I finally made up my mind to purchase it.

The beautiful bold blue and red cotton fabric came from The Dahlia Sewciety.

I should have mentioned two more shops. I purchased the black linen fabric from Fabric Mart and the purple denim came from Cali Fabrics.

    Hi Cynthia, thanks for sharing your favorites! I saw your video on your Ilford Jacket - It is very lovely. The color is very you, too 🤩 I would be hard pressed to rank my favorites, I think. Like picking your favorite child haha! You've done a great job. 👍 I'm wondering if the Ilford pattern has been re-done since the original came out. The common complaints about the collar/placket finishing and the construction of the sleeve-underarm seams (which was a drafting problem) have pretty much gone away. I know there has been a cuff added, so maybe those other problems have been fixed, too. I was going to just fix them myself, but since there's the addition of a cuff, maybe I should just get the pattern again 🙃

    • @MountainAccentsSewing
      @MountainAccentsSewing วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, one version of the jacket does have a traditional cuff and sleeve placket. I have a Mimi G Simplicity jacket with a cuff. That’s why I decided to try the sleeve without the placket. I also love all the different pocket options so it can be personalized to you. It was tough but also fun choosing my favorites. I hope you are doing well. Have a wonderful week. 😊

    Hi Cynthia! I love all you makes. You choose great pattern/fabric combinations. I think you wore those Saguaro to brunch in Charlotte. I loved the StyleArc top you paired with them and bought that pattern so I guess I will give the pants a whirl. I held off buying that pattern because I felt the top would be too young for me. Stay warm. I know we are fairly close geographically and it is so cold and windy here today!

It's definitely difficult to lose loved ones, especially at this time of year. I know you still miss your parents too. Christmas is filled with so much happiness as well as some sadness and fond memories. The puppy is like having a newborn baby all over again. Talk about some sleepless nights. He has to go out during the night to pee and take care of business. And, he wakes up super early thinking he is going to starve to death. He is adorable. Have New Year to you and your family as well.❤️😊

    I love your attitude about the Make Nine. I tend to see things like that as written in stone, and then I’m disappointed with myself when they don’t come to fruition. Using it as a motivator to keep you on track when you’re not inspired is a great idea! You’ve had a lot of successful garments this year. When you made the Morgan jeans, did you choose your size by the size chart, or the finished garment measurements? I would really like to get a good pattern for jeans for a non-stretch denim. I think I’ve got an old Burdastyle magazine pattern that will work, but I’ve heard so many great things about Closet Core Morgan and Ginger jeans, that part of me thinks I should branch out. I’ve mainly sewn Burda pants as I can get the best fit, but it’s tempting to try something else. I purchased the Ann Tilley Magic pants pattern, which has an adjustable waist, so fitting that should be easy. I’ve just got to wrap my head around the instructions and figure out exactly what fabric to use. I’m looking forward to your make nine for 2025. I may even try putting one together for myself. If I take your approach to make nine, it might be fun.

    • @MountainAccentsSewing
      @MountainAccentsSewing 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Nadine. Yes, I do not do well if I think of the Make Nine has a mandatory list. That is why I think of it the way I do. It is more of a Guideline or Wish List. I did find it helped me stay on track when I felt like I was losing my sewjo. I haven't sewn a lot of pants, but I have to say I was impressed with the Closet Core Morgan Jeans from the beginning. I chose my size based on the finished measurements. The one thing I would caution is to try on the completed jeans before you hem. The first pair I made I cut of some of the length because I thought they were too long, but then later realized I should have kept the length. That pair is now long enough when I am standing but is the tiniest bit short when I sit. This last pair I left the length as is and they are perfect. Currently, I am sewing a bag. I am sorting through my patterns to decide on my Make Nine 2025 items. I'm going to try to choose things that I already own. I may add in one or two patterns I would like to purchase. I hope you decide to make a list for the fun of it. I know some people choose fabrics that is in their stash that they want to sew up in the year. It doesn't have to be patterns. I hope you and your family have a wonderful New Year. How is the house hunting? I'm praying you find the right place soon!

    I find an awl very helpful. I use it to hold down material so it will go smoothly under the presser foot. It’s great to tuck under edges and hold them as the material underneath the presser foot too.

    To add to the tape measure - beginners be sure to purchase a fiberglass one because the traditional vinyl-covered ones (almost always yellow), stretch. Therefore, your measurements will not be accurate.

    When my children were little, I told them it was only a mistake if you didn't learn something from it, otherwise it was a learning opportunity. Sewing offers us lots and lots of learning opportunities. I can't even imagine a world where I didn't need a seam ripper! You offered some good advice for people new to sewing. My son opened his shirt as we were talking on the phone yesterday, so I don't know if it fits yet, but he really liked the fabric. He didn't realize at first that I'd made it, so it was a big win for me. No one will know that his shirts are homemade. I really like the finish of flat felled seams so I may have to incorporate those on some of my shirts. I hope you will be able to find time to sew a shirt for your son. It will be so much easier with him there to fit. In some ways men are lucky because they have so few styles of shirts. If you master the fit on one, you've practically got it made. I really like that color on you. If I remember correctly that was a Think Pink box fabric. You did such a good job matching those fabrics with patterns. I'm looking forward to seeing the Ilford jacket. I hope you are getting along well with that project.

      Good memory, Nadine. Yes, the top I am wearing is from a Think Pink Sewscription box. I wore it for Christmas Eve dinner and received a lot of compliments. The pattern is the Sew House Seven Regalia blouse. I have finished the Ilford jacket. I will share it in early January in a December Makes video. Oh, I love that your son didn’t realize you had sewn his shirt. I hope it fits. I’m glad he liked the fabric. It’s so rewarding when a person appreciates what you have made. I know Kenny loves wearing the pants I have made for him. My husband’s mother passed away a few days before Christmas so we had a more somber Christmas this year. She was in poor health, and we had noticed a major decline. It’s still been difficult for the family. I did receive some nice sewing gifts for Christmas. I feel so blessed. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.

      @@MountainAccentsSewing I am so sorry about your mother-in-law. I will pray for you, your son, your husband and his family. It makes Christmas really hard when you've lost a loved one. When I was in my twenties, my grandmother died a few weeks before Christmas, and I remember how hard that was. I'll pray for God's comfort and consolations for each of you. I'm glad you wore your beautiful top on Christmas eve, and your family appreciated your work. It really makes you feel good about your sewing when your family takes notice. I've noticed when my husband really likes a fabric, I tend to sew it up faster. And I am looking forward to seeing your Ilford. May our gracious heavenly Father shower all of you with His comfort and love and bless each of you with a happy and prosperous year to come.

    Thank you for taking us along on your hike ! The mountains, the trees and ferns and moss, were all beautiful! I have never been there and want to see more so I guess I will need to do a road trip. Love your Sunday dress , beautiful fabric! Looked great on you. The quilt is gorgeous and a lovely way to show your love for your son. On video the mauve looked good but I might want to see if there is something else for the topstitching. Either way make samples and see what you like best. You know you will get a lot of wear out of a jacket. This is a wonderful video and inspiring for creativity. Thank you!

    Gorgeous quilt, Cynthia! Truly, a labor of love! Please don’t ever worry about trying to be perfect! I love seeing the “hand” in handmade! The Toaster Sweater is one of my faves, also! It’s a (relatively) quick and rewarding sew! 💗

      Thank you, Andra. I believe he will love the quilt as is. And, I am happy he loves and uses everything I have made for him. 😊

    Congratulations on finishing the quilt! I bet your son is thrilled. I like the way you used a simpler design and let the fabric do the work. I also liked the wave design for the quilting; I bet that took some of the stress out of the process. It makes me want to try some sort of quilting again. My last one had so much point matching and preciseness required in the quilting that it took some of the fun out of it, but yours is inspiring me to try quilting again, but make better choices. I hope your son enjoys his quilt for many years to come. My son’s shirt looks way too long, but I guess I’ll know come Christmas. My thought is that he can at least wear it around the house, and I’ll gather a lot of information for the next one. I’m used to sewing things for people my height so maybe it will be okay, but looking at it, I think the pattern, especially the sleeves, might have had some extra height built into it. Thank goodness I only added an inch to the sleeves as others had commented they were long. My son may just get a good laugh. I’d never flat felled an armscye or sleeve or made a tower placket before, so I learned a lot. I will say that the tower placket video tutorial for the Ilford jacket was really good and helpful. I highly recommend you watch it. I hope your Ilford jacket ends up being just what you were hoping for. I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas season and are blessed with lots of love, good food, and time with family and friends.

      Merry Christmas to you and your family also. I hope your son’s shirt fits. I still haven’t sewn the one I cut out for my son. He asked me last week if I would sew him one . Hmmmm. I need to sew some palette cleansers first. Thank you for the tip on the Ilford jacket. I’m still waiting on the delivery of the thread. I hope it matches too. 🤞

      Merry Christmas to you and your family too. I hope your son’s shirt fits. It’s always a little nerve wracking sewing for someone else, especially if you can’t get all of the needed measurements. I still haven’t sewn the shirt I cut out for my son. He asked me last week if I would make him a shirt. Hmmmm. I need to sew some palette cleansers first. Right now, I am working on another Sew House Seven Toaster sweater. It’s a quick project. It’s good to hear from you again. Have a blessed Christmas season. 🎄❄️

    Merry Christmas, Cynthia! I had no idea it got so cold where you live. Your son's quilt is so nice. Good job! A new sewing/embroidery machine! What a lovely gift!!! Can't wait to see what you get up to with it. Take care and see you in the New Year.

      @ I’m not sure yet. I think I’m going to make some bias binding for them. I have a few really fun fat quarters I could use. What about you?

    • @MountainAccentsSewing
      @MountainAccentsSewing หลายเดือนก่อน

      @dizzyquiltsandsews I liked the way Christine used bias binding so I would like to do that. I just need to look through my fabrics to see if I have any that would work to make bias binding.
