Definitely will be praying for all of those affected by Helene and Milton!
Thank you ❤️
Prayers for everyone in the path..please stay safe
I am not in the path of Milton, but I am praying for Florida. ❤️
So glad you are safe. I have been praying for North Carolina. Such deep loss and sadness. Heartbreaking.
Thank you so much ❤️
Praying for all of you.
Thank you ❤️
I cannot imagine what all of you in the mountains are dealing with, so sad. You remain in our prayers. God bless you
Thank you for your prayers. ❤️
❤ sending prayers for your area, so sad watching the devastation.
It is sad. I am happy to see people working together to help others after this tragedy. Thank you for your prayers for western North Carolina.
Thank you for sharing your story about the hurricane. We’re so sorry and pray for the best for you and your neighbors. 🙏-Deborah
Thank you. I appreciate your prayers. ❤️
I'm praying for you and everyone affected. Please look after yourself.
Thank you. I’m feeling better than what I was on Friday. However, it is going to be a long road to recovery for many here in our region. ❤️
I've been worried about you and all the people and animals affected by the storm and am so glad you're ok. Sending hugs to all who need them. Also, loving your new fabric and I look forward to seeing your makes when you feel like sewing again. ❤
Thank you. It was devastating for humans and animals a like. I have watched some animal rescues too, and some of them are sad to watch too. I’m fortunate here because so many people lost everything.
Sending healing hugs and light to you. You are grieving no apologies needed. I hope you go to Frocktails for some self care.
@AllieCasey Thank you. Yes, I have decided to attend Frocktails as planned.
Thanks for the update, Cynthia. I’m impressed with your ability to focus and keep it together while talking about the storm. Lovely fabrics you’ve gathered recently. I'm glad you’ve decided to attend the Frocktails. Maybe your sewjo will return after getting together with all those other dressmakers. Take care.
Thank you. I hope to find some joy when I meet other sewists and meeting friends. Yes, the fabrics are lovely. That is why I couldn’t pass them up. 😊🤦♀️
Oh Cynthia, I am so sorry for all that you and your community have been through. I'm so glad you're safe. Take good care of yourself 🙏
Thank you so much. ❤️
Sending prayers and hugs from Canada.. I have a friend in Hickory. I hope she and her family are safe.
I haven’t heard of anything bad coming out of Hickory. Thank you for your prayers.
Thanks so much for the update. Was very concerned about you and your family.
Thank you. I appreciate your concern. ❤️
It just shows us how fragile we are that this devastation has happened.
Fragile yet resilient. ❤️
That hurricane did so much damage! I'm glad you are safe.❤
Thank you ❤️
Cynthia, based on your comment about being in the land of the waterfalls, I believe we live very close to each other. This storm was just incredible! So much damage and loss of life. Glad you're safe. Takecare.
Suzanne
It is difficult to wrap your mind around all the devastation. It is nice to hear from a neighbor. Glad you are safe too. ❤️
Cynthia, so sorry for all the loss and devastation. Praying for you all.
Thank you ☺️
So many Americans are sad with you all who ar3 affected by Helene and now Milton. We have cried with you and donated to Samaritan’s purse to help you all recover.
Thank you. Samaritan’s Purse is a great charity organization. ❤️
I am so glad that you and your family are safe. The upstate in South Carolina where I live was devastated by the storm. We didn’t have the flooding, but the devastation is overwhelming. Power is slowly being restored, and cleanup is going on. I will continue to pray for those not as fortunate. I am 65 and have lived here since 1977. I have never experienced anything like this.
I don’t think any of us has experienced anything like this, especially here in our area. I did hear that the upstate was hit hard too . I agree the devastation is overwhelming. I will keep you and yours in my thoughts and prayers. ❤️🙏❤️🙏
Wishing peace and joy.
Thank you ❤️
Thinking of you all at this desperate time. Sending prayers and huge hugs from Ireland. 💌
Thank you. I appreciate it. ❤️
I love your fabrics❤
Thank you. They are beautiful!
My sister, in central Tn, just took a bunch of supplies to help those affected, may need. She said even their area was threatened but want to help those in true need.
That is wonderful. I delivered supplies to Avery County, NC today. It’s close to Tennessee line.
My payers are with you and all those around you. We have family that live in Florida and Greenville S.C. Which have come through but are still cleaning up. Take care of yourself and family.
Thank you. I’m glad your family is safe.
My prayers are with you and everyone struggling with the aftermath.
Thank you for your prayers. ❤️
Thinking of you all❤❤🙏🙏🙏
Thank you ❤️
Great to see you Cynthia and thanks for your 'real' report of your areas damage. Thinking of you all over there and hope that your communities can rebuild before too long and life can return to some normality.
That teal bird fabric is just beautiful, what a piece of art ❤. Funny you should mention BTPD as I went in there on Friday 😂. Love love that purple fabric from her.
Stay safe my friend xx
Thank you. I usually do not like to make mock ups, but I will definitely need to test a pattern before I cut the purple fabric.
I traveled to Diann’s area of North Carolina, and the devastation in that area is so much worse than where I live. It’s heartbreaking.
So sad for you and everyone involved in the devastation caused by Helene and glad you are safe. Sending big hugs from Australia.
I absolutely love your Indian block print fabric, I’ve looked at it a few times. I made a Pattern Emporium Be Mine, Balloon Sleeve blouse out of some of the block print fabric and it is my favourite thing I have made. I’m looking forward to seeing what you make with it and also your Donny shirt.
Thank you for the hugs. Your Be Mine top sounds lovely. ❤️
We always think of upstate Carolina’s as being safe from hurricanes. Hurricanes are so devastating. Love the purple on you.
Yes, same for North Carolina. Thank you, Christine.
Thinking of you, your family and neighbour's. I have driven through the area years ago and it was so beautiful. Heartbreaking to see the videos coming out as power and connectivity is restored. Hoping your sewing brings peace and a sense of normality to you. Positive energy coming your way.
It is heartbreaking. Thank you for thinking of us. ❤️
Thank you for the update. My prayers are with you all.
Thank you for your prayers. ❤️
I've been thinking about you and so relieved your family and home are safe. I'll definitely keep your state in my prayers.
Thank you, Alecia. ❤️
I just started following your channel recently. I live in north central Florida and have so much compassion for what your state is going through. your ability to focus is amazing, but it’s good to see something positive coming out of North Carolina. ❤❤
Thank you. We are seeing a lot of caring people helping one another. That is something special. ❤️
Cynthia, Helene has been a devastating storm. I was so happy to see your new video. While I was sewing this afternoon I wondered if it had affected you. Your Donny Shirt fabric is beautiful. It's hard to feel like sewing when there's so much damage around but it will return eventually.XX
I returned to work Wednesday and yesterday I helped deliver needed supplies to another, more remote county. It made me realize how blessed I am where I live. Other areas were devastated with damage that will take many months to recover.
Today is the first day where I feel like I can sit at my sewing machine and see. I’m going to aim for at least 30 minutes. That may help me to ease back towards normal. Thank you for commenting. ❤️
Well done Cynthia! It took great courage for you to wear your heart on your sleeve and open up to the wider sewing community about how you are coping with such devastation all around you. My heart goes out to you. I hope you will indeed go to frocktails and toast all those who have been affected and show solidarity to the cause.
Thank you. I started not to do this video, but I changed my mind. I love my mountains here in North Carolina. I hate to see the devastation and hurt. 😢
Thinking of you. I don't even know what else to say. It is devastating and you still have a lot to go through, but you are in other people's thoughts for what it is worth.
Thank you, Susan. It’s a lot to process and we will get through this. It is going to take a lot of hard work and time.
Glad to hear from you!
Thank you. 👍
You have been in my thoughts and prayers. So happy you are ok. Thinking of everyone in Western NC with much love, in our thoughts and prayers. ❤
Thank you. I appreciate your prayers. ❤️
😢 Cynthia you all are in my thoughts and prayers. That fabric from dahlia sewciety is gorgeous 😊
Thank you so much. I appreciate the prayers. And, the fabric is gorgeous. Kristen has great taste in fabric. ❤️☺️
Cynthia, I am so thankful you and your family are safe. I have seen pictures of the devastation, and my eyes leak every time I see pictures of what your state has suffered. I will continue to lift you all up in prayer. I agree with your husband that you need to go to Frocktails. Your fabrics are beautiful and I look forward to seeing them made up.
Thank you, Carol. It makes me cry too. There’s definitely a feeling of loss.
Your new fabrics are all fabulous, and that Donny shirt is going to be stunning! Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers as you and those around you recover from this hurricane. Two years ago, I was affected by a 'post-tropical storm' about this time of the year. I live in a small city and had no power for a week and walked every day to get a hot meal and have my phone charged (I think I took one cold bath in that time!). There was no loss of life, but the damage to nature is still ongoing. Take care, go to Frocktales, and have a lovely time!
Thank you for your prayers. And, thank you for sharing your story. We are not alone. ❤️
Hi Cynthia, it is so good to see you on the screen again this morning and to hear that you and your home are ok! Thank you for sharing those pictures of your area.... It is so sad, and will take a bit of time to recover from - the different look with all the missing trees will take some getting used to, for sure. Your area looks like it is pretty densely forested to begin with. Do you know yet it the heavy flooding has re-arranged any of your beautiful falls?
That green jersey is so lovely!! Whitney/Tomkat St. has used wool jersey a lot! You can maybe scan her videos and see if there are any titles with wool jersey. She does love it, and has made some beautiful knit tops 😘 Take care ❤
Thank you for letting me know that Whitney loves wool knit jersey. I check that out.
I don’t know about any of the waterfalls. The state parks and federal property is closed to the public right now. I’m sure it has changed the terrain in places.
So very sad all the destruction in WNC. I am in Hendersonville and our home and neighborhood had very little damage, a few branches and tree limbs. But the roads all around us have been flooded or destroyed. We left and went to stay with my son In PA and will be going back this Monday hoping we can get back. I am happy to hear that you had no damage to your home . My heart goes out to all those that have had so much damage and loss. ❤ My wish is for you to get your sew/jo back and start working on those beautiful fabrics. Everyone you showed is more beautiful than the one before. Have a great time at Frocktails and I look forward to your report back of the advent. Have fun!
Hi Kathleen. Yes, Hendersonville had extensive flooding. One of the restaurants I like, Baybreeze, was flooded. I have never known it to flood there. I have heard that the water is receding there but a lot of clean up still to go.
I’m glad you are safe with your son and that your home didn’t suffer any damage. ❤️🙏❤️🙏
Thank you Cynthia! We will get through this! I’m sure the restaurants will be back up and running as soon as they can. We like that place as well!
Take care!
I was so happy to hear you and your family were safe. You and everyone are in my thoughts. I’m really glad you decided to come to Frocktails. Your new fabrics are amazing. A shirt in that gorgeous Indian block print would be perfect!
Thank you, Izzy. I believe it will be good for me, and I look forward to seeing you. ❤️☺️
God bless you and so many others. I’m in Nebraska and have been heartbroken by the devastation of Hurricane Helene on the news daily. I’m just setting up my channel, and perhaps we’ll meet sometime! In the meantime, you have a new subscriber and my prayers.
Awww, thank you. I appreciate your prayers. I will look for your channel.
❤ sending hugs 😢
Thank you ❤️
I am so sad for you and all the people affected by this storm. I know it will be a big job to rebuild. I made a donation to the Red Cross and I know all our people will rally to help in whatever way we can. It seems strange to talk about fabric in light of this, but you have some lovely fabric that you showed today. Your Donny shirt looks like it will be wonderful. The fabric from Beyond the Pink Door is stunning and the block print from The Dahlia Sewciety is amazing. Sometimes working with my hands takes me out of myself so I hope you get your sewjo back. Have a good time at Frocktails as all your fellow sewists come together and will be such good support in this tough time. Lifting you up.
Thank you. I did crochet while my power was out. I did it to keep my hands busy and calm my mind. I will share it later. ❤️
So glad to hear that you and your family are okay. Helene was one wicked storm, for sure! Here in Florida where I live, we were forewarned for days about how strong Helene was and to prep for the worst. I don't think anybody EVER stopped to consider just what destruction she would cause in the northern states after making landfall in Florida. You are all still in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong!
Thank you. I’m on my way today to help folks in one of our northern counties. They have need for blankets and toiletry items and a lot of other things besides just food and water. Thank you for your prayers. ❤️
Thank Goodness for all of the people like you within your state and the surrounding states who are able and willing to help others who are hurting and in dire need right now.
@@DebsWay It certainly makes me even more thankful. When you see the utter devastation first hand, it is truly heartbreaking and eye opening. 😢
I think grieving is perfectly normal given what you've been through. When watching some of the various flood footage, it made me realize just how easy it would have been for any of us to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. We didn't leave Boone until Thursday afternoon. My husband was feeling a little under the weather earlier in the week and he didn't want to get our elderly friend sick so we didn't go until Wednesday. We were going to spend two nights but with the hurricane coming we decided to go home on Thursday. If we'd stayed another night we would have been in the thick of it in a hotel room. We overheard other people in the hotel talking about what they would do that day since the weather was bad, but they didn't seem to have any plans to go home just to fill the day. We all have no idea what tomorrow will bring. The footage of Chimney Rock took my breath away. It was so sudden. That was not at all what I envisioned a flood would be like.
I am so grateful you are safe. Give yourself some grace and don't have expectations of how you should feel or what you should do. I think going to Frocktails will be good for you and give you a small vacation from real life. And thank you for sharing about other sewing vloggers. My prayers have been answered in so many ways. My elderly friend only lost power for a very short time Her daughter was without power for longer than you, and while nearby houses were flooded hers wasn't. We have no idea how much God protects us.
I love your new fabrics especially the Tencel one from BTPD. Your sewjo will eventually return. I traced a pattern today so hopefully mine is coming back. Please take care of yourself.
Oh Nadine, I am so glad you returned home early before the storm. I was in Avery County yesterday. The damage up there and on the drive there is so extensive. It’s heartbreaking.
I am thankful. Our community was hard hit but some of these other counties are so much worse. It will take months to get a lot of restoration work done. Some of the places will never be the same.
I believe I am going to try to sew a few minutes today. Maybe that will help my sew jo return.
I’m grateful for TH-cam friends like you who care. ❤️❤️❤️
@@MountainAccentsSewing God really does work in mysterious ways. My husband has been concerned about the conditions in Avery, but wasn't able to find out much. When he was growing up, his family had a vacation home outside of Newland,, as they had friends who lived in the area. That is where my husband's love for the North Carolina mountains started. There are some really great people there; my heart breaks for them. I will focus my prayers on the people in Avery for a while. Thank you for sharing that; it was an answer to prayer.
I am so glad you are sewing a little. I will pray for God to send you inspiration. I found this gauze throw clearanced at Hobby Lobby and it just sparked something in me. I would really love a gauze blouse in that fabric. I have New Look 6743 and love the tie front version. Something about that gauze fabric just sparked my need to make that top. I am making a test garment first because I've never sewn with gauze so I want to have my sizing figured out so I don't have to baste and try on with gauze. Maybe some odd think will just spark your creativity and off you will go. It certainly won't hurt to sew in short spells because I do believe just the act of sewing can spark joy. And you need some joy!
Hi Nadine. Yes, I passed through Newland to get to Elk Park. The ingles and Roses there, which supported all those communities, was flooded. It will take a very long time for them to gut it and rebuild the inside of the stores. The communities there will need food, clothing and supplies to support them through the cold, winter months. I know they are asking for blankets, winter jackets, hand warmers, camp stoves and fuel, flashlights and batteries and other things. They have enough supplies for a short period of time, but they will need assistance periodically for months.
A gauze top sounds lovely. I haven’t sewn anything yet. I did cut out a simple wristlet purse. Hopefully, it will turn out like I want it too.
@@MountainAccentsSewing Did you happen to notice if the Lowes Foods was flooded as well? It would have been on the right hand side of the road when you just get into town before you got to the Ingles when you're heading to Elk Park. I'd hate to think of all those people not having any grocery store there! Do you know if a specific charity or church is heading up the relief efforts in Newland? We could donate money now, or we could gather stuff to bring in a few weeks. If you know any names or contact info, I'd appreciate any information you could share.
And for the record, I'm rather excited about you going to Frocktails. I'm looking forward to you sharing your experience, and seeing you in your new dress.
@@nadinewoods6971 I didn’t see the Lowe’s Foods so I don’t know about it. I was looking at the Ingles/Roses as we passed. I actually reached out to Diann @SilverThreadsSewing . Her church is one of the distribution places. Plumcreek Baptist Church also has supplies. I don’t know if any other churches are open or not. Right now, there is only one road open (may be called Three Mile). 221 has sections of it that are closed. It’s a bad situation.
Diann’s church is Elk Park Christian Church. I do not know if there is a distribution center in Newland or not. The girl I spoke to mentioned some other churches were helping out in the surrounding communities. I hope that helps.
❤
Thank you ❤️
I experienced a hurricane in 2004. Only 1 person died when a tree fell on their parked car. The power was out for a week in some places and the area was pretty much closed down for a week. It looks like your area is way worse. It was frustrating and miserable but things got back to normal eventually. The army arrived and power crews from other parts of the country also came to help. We have no idea of the logistics required to sort out a mess of this magnitude. A friend kept sewing on an old treadle machine….
I have seen power crews from all over too. It’s great that they have come to help. It is still going to take a long time for some areas to get their power restored.
I crocheted while our power was out.
Wow, that must have been scary
I felt safe at my house but it was the worst storm I have ever witnessed.
I have the same Indian block print in a different colorway! I think I got mine directly from India and if you’re interested I’ll try to remember the company name. I don’t order from Andrea at Beyond The Pink Door or The Dahlia society because of their shipping costs, but I love their sites. We live half the year in Bradenton Florida. Our home is fine, but the barrier island just in front of us, Anna Maria, has been devastated. No loss of life though, because we had plenty of warning. I am so sorry for your region. Thank you for your video.
It’s gorgeous fabric. Do you know what you are going to sew with your fabric?
I’m glad they have had no loss of life there. Here, we prepare for rain, but the magnitude of this storm was like no other.
@@MountainAccentsSewing I’ve already made a dress that I love. It’s a hacked Laurel from Seamwork. It’s a midi I guess, with a ruffle at the bottom and a tie sash. I wear it to casual weddings and parties too. My fabric is an off white background with the same colors in the print.
Sounds beautiful!
What is fabric behind you?
It is a Nerida Hansen viscose fabric.
Tx. Wondered as it matches the top you're wearing. Is it something you've made into? Sorry if I've missed it in a blog, newish to your channel
No, it is a fabric I purchased from Beyond the Pink Door, but I have no idea what to make with it. It did coordinate with the T-shirt I was wearing but that was coincidental. I was trying to hide an ugly cabinet. 😅
It'd look lovely as sleeveless dress(?) over top of your t-shirt, like do you call it pinafore or something?
Prayers won‘t help.
I’m sorry you feel that way. I personally believe in the power of prayer.
