How lovely that you and your parents get to enjoy God's creation in that way. I can't wait to see your son's quilt when it is finished. I can see why you want to have some easy projects to do while you are finishing the quilting. I'm torn between using the mauve thread and using the brown/tan with brown buttons. I think I would choose the buttons next and then choose the thread accordingly. I think a wool knit top would be invaluable for living in the mountains. We have the opposite problem in our house as my husband prefers the house to be cooler than I do so I am always bundling up. Your crocheted throw is just gorgeous! I have finished a Rhapsody top and am almost finished New Look 6601. Sewing goes so much faster for me when I'm sewing repeat patterns and don't have to fit. We did find a wonderful husband & wife team of real estate agents, but didn't find any homes that would work. My husband is very cautious about homes with water issues, but maybe something will come available in the coming months, It's just so nice to have a real estate agent who will be a good match for us. I think I am going to tackle a shirt for my son next. I'm nervous about fit, but I want to sew one anyway. I think I'm going to compare my pattern to a RTW size for comparison. My main issue is going to be figuring out how to make it tall as he's 6"3 and I don't know where to add height. I am sure there is a video for that somewhere. I have a Burda pattern but saw where the Thread Theory Fairfield is on sale. Maybe that would be a better option for me because there's likely more info on fit. I hope you have a lovely week.
It's great that you are going to sew for your son. I have only made pants for my son before. He too is tall, and I always add length to his pants. I have McCalls M6044, a button up shirt for men, cut out but haven't sewn it yet. It's a WIP that I started last year. Anyway, it has shorten and lengthen lines so I lengthened it too. I based the size cut out by what size shirt he purchases in RTW. I think I also got him to take his chest measurement and measured his arm length. I'm glad you have finished some tops for yourself. I feel fortunate to live close enough to my parents that we can enjoy the outdoors together. I was surprised that the trail we hiked had very little damage on it. I know some of the trails on the Blue Ridge Parkway have caution signs on them. The views Saturday was stunning with blue skies and lots of sunshine. This weekend is going to be the opposite. It's going to be cold, and we may even see a snow flurry. I want snow, but I'm sure some of the people that were more affected by Hurricane Helene is not ready for cold weather or snow yet. I continue to pray that you and your husband will find the perfect house. Take care and have a wonderful week.
Thank you for the beautiful sights and scenery on your drive and on the hike. I love every time you post these beautiful areas. I would watch Cynthia's Hiking Channel!! Your son's quilt looks so good! I would wait and get thread for the Ilford. That's just me. I always want as perfect a match as I can find and I hate to run out!! Have a great week and thank you for posting. :)
Thank you for the lovely comment. I’m glad that the quilt be completed soon. Thank you for the input about thread. I typically try to match my thread as closely as possible. I just don’t know when I will be near a Joann’s. 😕
Thank you so much for sharing the Blue Ridge footage to us. I'm so glad pieces of it have reopened again. What a wonderful crochet blanket, the colours are beautiful xx
I loved the hiking footage! Your shirtdress is gorgeous, and im looking forward to seeing your jacket! The thread suggestion noted above sounds good to me; I like a finished spool, too!
Hi Cynthia! Thank you for sharing those beautiful mountains with us-it looks like you had a nice time! I’m constantly changing because of the temperature in my house(and my age 😂) I loved your array of outfits for Sunday! Have a great week! ❤❤❤-Mary
Hi Cynthia, thank you for taking us along through the mountains; that was a lot of fun! 🥰 You can do this anytime! Your shirtdress is beautiful! It looks wonderful to wear 😊 I haven't yet worked with wool jersey, but I would looove to make a wool jersey dress! Re: thread matching.... what I do is set aside the best one for the visible stitching, and use all the rest for the bobbin and regular seams. That does involve switching out the needle thread occasionally, but I Love emptying a spool!! (a rah rah kinda happens *blush) Yours is one area of the country that my folks didn't take us camping in the summers when we were growing up, and there's never been any family - present or past. I think I mentioned the book A Walk in the Woods that I read earlier this year, and it some of the place names you mention around the parkway might be near the Appalachian Trail? I need to look up the other one you've mentioned 😉 Happy sewing and hiking. 😘
Thank you for the tip about the threads. I hadn’t considered that. It’s a possibility. I’m glad you enjoyed the hike. Definitely give wool jersey a try! It’s easy to sew. 😊
We are so blessed to live where we do! Your son will love his quilt, and that crochet blanket looks so cozy! 💗
Yes! Thank you so much. 😊

Beautiful countryside, Cynthia and I love your crochet blanket 🤩
Thank you. The crochet blanket is going to feel good this winter.
Snow coming in 4 hours...
Oh, I love snow. ❄️
Really enjoyed this video. Thank you. I would like a husband that made the house too hot! 🙃
LOL. He freezes, and I’m either comfortable or too hot. I’m glad you enjoyed this video.
