Monkeying Around In Kyoto, Japan 🇯🇵 🙈
Arashiyama Monkey Park! And Arashiyama Bamboo Forest! After giving my math talk at Kyoto University, I had some time to explore. The monkey park sounded really cool, but it was on the other side of town. After an hour of bus rides, I made it to this beautiful part of Kyoto. I wanted to get to the pig cafe, so I had limited time there.
After the monkey park closed, I got to explore the mysterious Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. Locals say it's scary and spooky. Come explore with me and see what I found!

Navigating Kyoto, Japan And Visiting The Stunningly Beautiful Silver Temple 🇯🇵
มุมมอง 14614 วันที่ผ่านมา
My next stop in Japan is Kyoto! This city really has a totally different vibe than where I've been so far. I gave my math talk at Kyoto University and went on to try some of the local cuisine and made my way to Ginkaku-ji (銀閣寺, Temple of the Silver Pavilion) officially known as Jishō-ji (慈照寺, Temple of Shining Mercy). And stick around for a very naughty surprise at the Kyoto University gift shop 🙈
The Sendai Daikannon: 9th Tallest Statue In The World! Sendai, Japan 🇯🇵
มุมมอง 12721 วันที่ผ่านมา
Despite everyone at Tohoku University telling me it's stupid to go, I had to see this beautiful monstrosity of a statue in Sendai: The Sendai Daikannon (仙台大観音 or 仙台天道白衣大観音). This is currently the 9th tallest statue in the world and portrays a Buddhist goddess: the bodhisattva Byakue Kannon. Everyone I talked to thought it was scary or creepy. Honestly, I love this sort of stuff and this was my ...
Sendai, Japan: Home Of Wild Shopping! 🇯🇵

Next stop on my math tour of Japan is Sendai! This city of more than a million people is in Miyagi Prefecture and the Tohoku region of Japan. I had a math talk to give at Tohoku University and had some time to explore this interesting city. Tower giant statues, a rat market, and some very confusing stores made for a wonderful experience :). What else can Sendai offer? ;) #sendai #miyagi #japan
Harajuku The Capital Of Kawaii In Japan 🇯🇵
มุมมอง 93หลายเดือนก่อน
Welcome to the cute kawaii capital of Japan! I had some down time between my stays in Tsukuba and Sendai and hung out in Tokyo for a while. I remember some time ago hearing Gwen Stefani constantly talk about Harajuku everything in her songs, so I figured I absolutely had to go there! The word kawaii more or less means "cute" in Japanese. But, it's really a specific aesthetic that has spread thr...
Exploring the Quiet City of Tsukuba, Japan Ibaraki
มุมมอง 164หลายเดือนก่อน
I spent more than a week in the city of Tsukuba つくば市 Japan at the University of Tsukuba. This was my first time in Japan and the beginning of a six city mega tour across Japan (including Tokyo, Sendai, Kyoto, Nagoya, and Hiroshima). Tsukuba has only around 200,000 people as in Ibaraki prefecture 茨城県. I was in town to work on a couple math papers with some colleagues of mine at University of Tsu...

Living Abroad For 8 Years. Top 7 Things I Miss About The USA.
มุมมอง 1862 หลายเดือนก่อน
I moved to Poland 8 years ago after living in the US for 34 years. I don't regret at all moving and I'll probably stay there the rest of my life. But, there are a few things I miss back at home. I was visiting my brother and his family in Washington, DC and also giving some math talks. I figured this would be the perfect place to talk about what I miss. Some of them might surprise you! #washing...
Passing Through Gainesville, Florida!!
มุมมอง 902 หลายเดือนก่อน
The 4th stop of my tour of the US was University of Florida in Gainesville Florida. The math department was nice enough to host me here. This was my first time in Florida and I got to look around at a bunch of alligators and bats and things. And some other goofy stuff. Come and see what I found :) #gainesville #universityofflorida #florida
In Nagoya, Japan: Akira Toriyama's Home Town. Reflecting on Dragon Ball and His Legacy.
มุมมอง 9483 หลายเดือนก่อน
I was shocked and saddened to hear that famed Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama just passed away :(. By a strange coincidence I happened to arrive in his hometown of Nagoya, Japan the day that this news became public. Dragon Ball has been a big influence in my life and I wanted to reflect some on what it has meant to me. #dragonballz #akiratoriyama #dragonball #nagoya
I Pokémon Go! to Detroit!!
มุมมอง 1103 หลายเดือนก่อน
I was visiting my hometown of Royal Oak, Michigan (near Detroit) and met up with some old friends of mine from junior high that are avid Pokemon Go players. My Juggalo friend The Hatchet Man goes around bad parts of Detroit after 3am in search of Pokemon. I never got to see the city of Detroit much when I was a kid. We got to explore the city and see many dilapidated historical sites and the Po...

Trying To Get Mugged In Helsinki's Most Dangerous HOOD: Kontula!
Really😂😂😂 Trying to decide would I laugh or feel second hand embarrassment🙄 That's an Abloy key. It works ALWAYS. It is not a key card. You actually have to TURN the key for lock to open. Maybe the university is not a place for you if you can't even open a door 😂
No comments about the Dalek that appeared on a corridor?😳
I think those snow monkeys are the same kind of monkeys that we have here at the Detroit Zoo. They go into their hot tub pool in the winter.
Hey Bill, your shot are good. what camera you used and what setting for night shot? Would be nice if you can share. Thanks.
Who said that finns are not nice, just polite? Some americans? Finns in general are quiet, not rude. In general i guess we are a bit more open and outgoing here in Norway. And we have to pay to pee some places here too, but most public toilets are free to use. Guess that goes for Finland as well :)
😂
Those bonbon candies have been around since 90's. I actually didn't even know they still existed. So yeah they are in the style of ren and stimpy or whatever 90's was about.
Our media agencies and some politicians want to portray Kontula as a really bad place but mostly its just another dormant part of the city. The same media agencies and politicians keep on telling how people get stabbed in the Central Railway Station of Helsinki and I haven't really felt threatened there either. Mostly those places are exactly as bad as they were decades ago. It might be that situation is getting worse and I don't see something that is bubbling underneath and most certainly we always need to work on keeping our society safe for everyone but so far I'm not really concerned about us sliding into that what I read from media about what is happening in certain parts of Stockholm. Be nice to other people. Treat other people like you would like to be treated. Work on achieving good enough safety nets in society and you are likely to have less problems and crime in society. Understand that these things most definitely don't mean communism. These mean healthy society that strives to improve itself and human condition.
Great video!
minute longer than LOVE-video.. I see you! 😉
Lmao
Cute Kawaii Bill comes back to haunt me
There were some really unusually marked cats in that cat cafe.
Awesome! :)
Those paid restroom will infuriate every Finn also. The calling and reading the QR never work properly. My gf once called the number on the ladies room door and it opened the men´s room door for her. So yeah, Finns also agree that those fucking paid restrooms suck ass. I will avoid them even if my life depended on it.
The nastily branded BonBon sweets are actually Danish. Very popular in all of the Nordics, because of the funny branding. And the sweets are actually good, so a win-win situation right there.
What's cuter, Cute Kawaii Bill, or the cute otters? Hmmmm....I think the otters win! LOL
Is it not allowed to visit inside Stalin's house? Also, which month did you travel? Wondering whether the summer season is pretty hot in Georgia.
trying to stuff a baby reindeer with leaves - you do know theyre mammals, and you do know what tits/teets are for? 🙂
Yes, that looks like bamboo.
I lived there for years, wonderful place
The man that was lying on the ground for a few seconds, is a common occurrence, which you probably have already noticed. Japan has a very strong (unhealthy) work culture. People putting in more hours than a fulltime basis. At the end of a workday, they go out to drink with colleagues.
I really loved this vid. The moment I saw Japan in the title, I just had to watch. Looking forward to further videos of Japan. Also, the reason why you don't see that many people in Tsukuba, is because of a declining population concern and that most of the people move to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka.
I respect you. You ordering that your mom can came to Finland. My fathers aunt and family lived in Cleveland, Ohio. There was a lot of finns too.
I grew up just a few blocks from 8 mile and worked at a party store there as well. Used to call it baseline.
The most uniquely Finnish thing when it comes to cuisine is probably wood tar as a seasoning. Yeah, I'm totally serious. A tiny amount can be added to sauces or lozenges for taste. It adds an interesting smoky flavor. I'm pretty sure no other people on Earth do this. (Of course, you can't be 100% sure). It's not very common, though. I've had ice cream with wood tar sauce at the Plevna brew pub in Tampere. At the fresh food market (Kauppahalli) at the South Harbor in Helsinki, one of the shops has served salmon with wood tar flavored sauce. "Terva Leijona" is a classic tar flavored licorice candy.
where's the link? I found the link to the broadcaster's main page but nothing to your video
For better or for worse, our brains control us...
you have to understand that in a university people need to examine animals. i understand you work in mathematics but you have to understand people go REALLY DEEP in for instance biology.
having a problem about dead animals seems quite shallow in the context of research.
i love helsinki because if you know where to go, there is something happening almost every day. helsinki is just the right size of town when you know where to go. zero danger. stuff happening. REALLY cheap when you know how.
there are almost no muggings in finland because nobody HAS to mug to be able to live. the only muggings are mostly teenagers who take influence of american gang culture ONLY because they think it´s cool. american culture.
would catholics have more restrictions of the materials you can have the ... was it nativity .. something ... .... ok this just sounds so weird. why not ice? is it that you can only have a specific wood you use? i don´t get it
i´m watching these finland videos in order and you seem more and more positive in every video! i love it!
dude i´m an expert of not using much money in finland and it is REALLY cheap when you know how to do it. gore-tex and down jackets for under 10 euros (uff) and free museum days and free booze at gallerium openings and ...... just a million more things. free sauna, kilju, ..... i´m doing very well with absolute minimum money.
going out or to cafes might be expensive ... and if you really wanna eat fancy food ... but those are the only things that cost. you get art and culture and music and ..... just so much for free or almost free. but i agree. you have to know the things.
Your finland videos are getting better and better!
ok NOW you got me on board 100% :D that´s so funny someone from mf DETROIT walking in kontula trying to find something dangerous XD XD XD XD so funny and kinda a boss move! but yea ... just plain muggings almost never happen so ... maybe go and try and pick a fight with some bikers or something XD
Ok you seem finally to be picking up some personal excitement :D
i find it a bit disturbing that you are comparing prices of places in the middle of nowhere of the cheapest countries in europe to the most expensive places of the most expensive countries in europe and seem somewhat disappointed and .... kind of in a way that it´s just a complete scam. or in the minimum just ... indifferent and bored. i mean i myself as a finn would never do those santa things being unemployed and luckily childless but even you must have seen lots of videos where people have been absolutely mesmerized. i´m a extremely hardcore low-cost traveller so i understand but you kinda have to accept where you choose to go.
to give you the benefit of doubt though i might just misinterpret your tired demeniour to feel fed up. i remember you saying in the earlier finland videos that you don´t enjoy making these travel videos anymore and that you are tired of it. so maybe it´s just that.
Wait. The new york city of lapland is an irish pub 😂😂😂😂 you know irish pubs are not from the usa? 😂😂😂😂
Actually nightwish didnt write the national anthem. This is a common misunderstanding. The nathional anthem was actually written by Darude and it's called Sandstorm
i started following you after watching your Dallas DART video. I was out of the US for 18+ years. Water fountains are yuck! How many times have I seen people clean them with floor mops, and/or kids put their herpes lips on them 🤣When I was overseas I always thought things were cleaner in the US, but now I do not think so! I tried living with other people TWICE but I couldn't stand it because they were nasty! I would rather live in a car!
What an amzing video. Holy cow, look at all those crazy locations. Was that japan?
Bill's Japan videos are coming next!
Finland has been the voted as the happiest country - for 7 years in a row ! A Swedish TH-cam team called YES THEORY - came to find out and made INVESTIGATING video... If interested just watch to find out their results... Have Fun & sit down & lean back... Näkemiin
Cool! Love those trees! Nice to see Gainesville Florida through your camera lens.
Nice Video ! The Burger King - is gone ! Their fumes were too much for the art on the walls... so the art stayed ! Thank God - but art was there before - King of Burgers !
I didn't realize how beautiful the memorials look lit up after dark
hi, 3:20 who is that man to try sing on georgian:)
