  • I was in Wroclaw, Poland to give a math talk at the university, but the Christmas Market drove the prices up, so I stayed in a bit less touristic area of the city: Popowice. Mostly just exploring and walking around this part of Wroclaw and talking to some local Ukrainian refugee residents. What must it be like living here?

The rusted thing in 6:25 is called "trzepak" - a carpet hanger. Not a lot of people use these anymore, but the idea is you can take your carpet outside, hang it on the thing and then you smack it repeatedly with something stiff (like a broom stick or a dedicated tool that is wider at the end) to get all the dust and debris out.

Street names are themed after wild animals. It's quite common in Wrocław that districts have themed street names. Not so far, there is Gądów with aviation oriented names.
Popowice are not that grey and sad. One of the better commie block hoods.

The rusty thing you talk about in ~6:15 is " trzepak " and "trzepać" (verb) means to beat/smack/hit. Carpets are hanged on it and smacked to get rid of dirt originally but kids used to use it for fun, like hanging with their heads down and other weird things. Both not so popular these days.

When the one brother smacked the other brother in the back of the head, it cracked me up and brought back memories of when I was growing up. Guys did that to each other all the time back when I was a kid.

I like areas like this. It looks similar to Przymorze or Zaspa in Gdańsk. Mate, why do you film in wide angle? Film in linear. Your videos would look much better. The wide angle just distorts everything
