people in scotland charge hedges seperetly 40 pound a hedge but if its all round premeter of garden say 2 0r 3 sides u would charge say 100 pound or what u think how many ours it took couold be 8 hours to do so it be maybe 8 times your hourly rate also some charge 20 pound a lawn average council house size u could charge more for larger lawns so 2 lawns back front 1 average sise hedge say 1 lenght 5 meters long would be 80 pound council house size

I don't like this youtuber for free business, we'll all be in trouble if we all start doing it, you wouldn't get any other serious professions doing it, I think its undermining the whole thing!! If you want to "give back to the community" do volunteering, start up ring and ride or something 😂

When younger, I had the whole "Commercial" thing - 15 "graft" employees, fleet of vans, nice big unit, girls in the office full time to answer phones, keep the books, every machine going, turning over serious money working for The Big Boys doing their maintenance - oh how I hated it, in hindsight - stress central & fridays were nightmares, was always chasing payments that were make or break as the sums involved were so large. We were usually working in more than one country as well, if our clients had foreign based operations, we'd be expected to be there too. I'd have to be up 20k every friday just to cover the basic costs - say it fast, sounds easy enough, but you'd to do it every week, rain or shine, disasters or wins. 20k clear a week means you're running flat out - not turnover, you'd to make 20k profit or else you're burning cash & going backwards - if you made only 20k, then your own pay was zero - on 20k profit.. 21k, you made a grand, on maybe 80k of turnover. Wake up every day knowing you have to bring in 15k today or you're working for nowt & that puts it into perspective. People love the idea of running "Busy" businesses - being The Boss - but it's often a mugs game. 500k Tax bill? Oh yeah.. mint... write the cheque - because at that (relatively piddly) scale - that's the reality. It becomes a form of insanity because you're so busy, you don't get the chance to think & so many people now "depend" on you for their income & "The Service". Only made 18k profit this week? You massive loser - no pay for you. If I had it to do over - hindsight is great, lol - I'd have given it all a hard pass & would have created a small, tight, simple local based business that earned a living for the least stress possible - which is what I have now. Stay in your lane is great advice, Rob - I used struggle with the concept & wanted to take over the world. Now I think "Sod that.." and try keep it as low-key as possible, with only one employee - me. It's hard enough to manage that one employee - I'd dread to have any more, these days.

When it comes to tall wet grass, airflow generated by the blade is all - you want loads of airflow. My toro, a timemaster, is rubbish at mowing wet grass - the 2 small blades create sod all airflow, which is why Timemasters are so poor at collecting. However on short dry grass, it flies, usually fast as or faster than a ride-on. Utterly crap at mowing tall wet grass tho. It clogs almost straight away - so I need a second machine for when its wet - which is usually whatever boggo reasonably highly powered single blade machine with a Briggs I/C engine that is knocking about the shed. For those who swear by Etesia for wet grass, I've had 2 and didn't find them anything special at all - wouldn't rate them considering the cost, there was loads I disliked about them & I don't get the hype. I put them up for sale when both were clapped out and there was a queue of buyers - Baffles me. They proved no more durable than some mowers I've had that were half the price. But each to their own. I only have the Timemaster because my local dealer had one in that was 3 months old, had blown its head gasket & wouldn't drive - they'd refunded the customer & it was just sitting there. I gave them 400 quid for it, fixed it & have run it since. Only bought it because my everlasting fave Honda had finally crapped the bed after years of dogs abuse. I preferred the Honda by far, lol.

I don't understand why people get upset with other channels that do "free" work for the views. It's just a different way to get paid. Plus it's a lot more of a risk.... But the rewards can be high.

Your giving back with these videos already, painting industry has got these people recommending tools and paint, it causes issues when they getting paid and the stuff they 'reviewing' is useless, one company did this big time with guys and the product is rubbish but sells well due to the recommendations and reviews

Those "free gardening videos" are so transparent. The biggest one (I won't name him) always slags off us honest gardeners who are making a living doing a hard day's work because they dared to quote the horrible jobs he earns 10 times more than the quote would have. He is an asolute fl*g.

I’m a self employed house maintenance guy, work hard all week for my pay. It’s not easy. Nothing is. These people won’t work for free without a camera running. Don’t be deceived. Great channel. Continue the great work! 👊🏼

Great post Rob. I don’t watch free work YT posts unless they’re up front at the start and say that YT money is paying for it. There are some good Aussie channels that do this. No one does anything for free, there's always a self motive. Winds me up with the fake of it.

I lolled at the "My old xxxxxxx retired.." Usually they only retired from this customer - when they say that, run. That one rings so true, I hear that all the time.. They are always a disaster zone.

Rob lawn care can be a nightmare, I go to some gardens where well know companies have been they put a nitrogen based feed on it and when I turn up the grass is 9 inch long, lovely and green , but when I cut to 30 cm it is discoloured and brown, I don’t know how they get away with it I have looked after a bowling green at my local pub for the last 20 years, I have every machine known to man to to do all the things that need to be done and it’s still very difficult to keep it looking great 100 % of the time Keep going man and good luck

Its tough enough making a business out of garden maintainence, with rain days off & drought conditions, also 3months of resticted light and need (winter)...working within reasonable ground conditions...

As a Window Cleaner you often get new start up businesses cleaning dirty local road signs for a bit of cheap publicity to get a bit of extra work or hoping it goes viral and you never see them again. Me ....I'm always busy and no time for all that nonsense 😅

Absolutely agree Rob, there was a lad in my area that started doing it last summer. To be honest I think he was doing it to raise his profile in the area. Not seen him since, the problem is some of these people just want freebies and won’t gave you back to do a paid job!
