100% right buddy.

Yes rob winter depressing I just bort a battery leaf blower for2025
I've had a customer ask me to come out to do theirs. I did it once, several days went by, they tried to con me and say I'd smashed their neighbours back door window. I questioned where it had come from and why was it after almost a week that it was mentioned. They tried to say my strimmer had smashed it. According to them it had gone by my guard, my plastic strimmer cord, not to mention their hedge/stone wall that was 4 foot tall. It was impossible. They asked me to go again and I went by the same day. They already cut it but called me out after they already did to attempt to waste my fuel and time. Sadly my partner works in the same place as her and the woman hasn't got a good name anymore. People assume that they are everything, when the reality is they aren't. It's just another job that cured me of a terrible customer.
How much would you charge for those two gardens?
I wouldn’t disclose individual prices. Sorry.
another view. the customer gets a smart garden front and back for 14 days. That £35- 40 divided by the 14 is extremely good value for money. Let the moaning customers go and end up struggling to find replacement gardeners.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and family mate 👌👍
Same to you!
Where do you put grass clippings
Customers green bin.
Yea it's not the cancelling but treating you like an afterthought and wasting your time
Hey great video i watched a good few of these to get inspiration to do mine. This is my transit custom set up if anyone's interested th-cam.com/video/iQXMEDEgZAg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JgRIT5W5GkJEBPiT
Shows good strength of character to admit when you made a mistake. Fair play to you Rob.
(Window cleaning) "We'll have the first one, and if it's good we might go monthly". 🙄
Look at it like a taxi driver the metre is on from when you get in cab .its working time you cant work for nought .
I say i have to price jobs sepratly if they ask to trim hedge in with cut .most say thats ok .i price hedge same as grass cut that way its handy extra money .merry christmas to you
I find woman pensioners are the worst there over the moon when u start on a regular basis. But after time they start to realise how much its costing them .then it's a different story
Amazing how close grass cutting is to window cleaning. I had customers that wanted to lat me off over winter and tell me to come back in the spring. Also had people say "don't worry about it this week, they look alright". I always just said "yeah, no problem" and then not turn up again. It's even more satisfying when I would carry on cleaning their neighbours windows but jump in the van and miss theirs.
Rob, this video is out of sync with 2025. Next year (2025) is National Living Wage - £12.21 per hour £12.21 x 2080 (40 hours per week x 52 weeks of the year) equals £25,386 That works out to be £2115.57 a month That's without all the hassle of running a small business Really, it should be a minumim of £250 a day, trying to push £300. That's still not earning a fortune. For £200 a day, they would be better off working for someone else.
I’m going into my third year in April. I’m learning each year. Next year I’m hoping to pay myself a steady wage each month. Last year I didn’t save much for the winter, but this year I’ve had a saver for those quiet months. Totally agree with what you say, it’s beginning to feel like I’m getting a better understanding of what I’m doing.
They do a mulcher version now which is better for the green stuff. Tool steel blades make it far better it seems, not the chocolate ones fitted as standard. With the tool steel blades it self feeds far better.
Hi Rob, great content as always. Do you cut the second time at the same height? Nice one pal stay lucky
Yes
Hi rob how you doing. Love your channel. Going it alone with my own gardening business in 2025 and your channel has been so so hopeful, so thank you! Quick question, you mention in this video you don’t take on big customers, just wondering what your thinking is behind it? In my simple mind bigger customer bigger price (yes I’m very simple!) 😂 obviously I’m not targeting big customers to start of with, was just intrigued. Nice one fella.
I think youre wrong Rob. You should have taken his hourly rate and then asked him when he is setting up a pension scheme for you, and how much paid holiday he is willing to provide you every year. Oh, tell him your work boots need replacing too.😂
Great channel mate. Im not even a gardener any more, but still watch as all the problems you have are the same I have.
Cool, thanks
Can’t you buy a small trailer or dosnt that work in the UK
great advice as ever,no hourly rate is perfect, I'm retired now but the amount of times i was ripped off and challenged over my hourly rate,we live and learn Rob,👍
We certainly do.
Great Presentation, just one thing ain’t you afraid of having your van with your business ad sticker being a target for thieves
It’s always in the back of your mind.
Hi Rob Down here in South Wales I'm still mowing! (Using my Grin mulching mower) Also had a lot of garden clearance due to the latest storm. Can't count how many fallen trees I've cut up, still the wood burners gonna be happy next winter. Get yourself a Grin mulching mower. Fantastic bits of kit and happily cuts wet grass without making a mess. Cheers
Thanks for sharing
Good advice Rob. I paid myself a pittance from my business account to help build up my capital, but it was ok because I had plenty of cash jobs as well.
My favourite time of the year for gardening is winter. Great work on the hedge. My last grass cut was on December 5th.
50 pounds an hours it’s hard physical work that’s why no one wants to do it ,you call up a plumber or other trades how much do they charge and they pay it you can’t work for cheap or your business will fail
Wise words , thank you.
I’m new to this grass cutting thing can you advice on what to buy I have a garden 55ft x 40ft and I want one that you don’t have to push any ideas thanks
Honda izzy 16 inch self propelled. propelled.
I'm thinking once i get closer to [early] retirement age of doing this, maybe to look to earn 6000 a year. maybe work 3 days a week i won't need pay any ni or tax i guess. cheers for your videos, great business advice there and cheers for sharing very kind of you
Best of luck!🤞
Never help neighbours. Unless they are stuck outside and left the key inside. Only let them use your phone, don't let them in your home
Spot on .
Hi Rob, How do you dispose of your garden /Green waste? do you have a licence etc and which recycling centres accept it/ how much does it cost per visit to take it there? it seems very complicated! thanks
I have a waste license to carry commercial green waste. Free from the gov website. I dispose grass clippings in the customers bins. Bigger jobs i use a private recycling company who charge per van load.
@ thanks so much for the reply and the info. Love your videos 👍very helpful
I would of charged for that visit and sure would get rid
Thanks for watching and your comment.👍🏻
After watching this i built my own and it works a treat. Well done Rob and thanks for sharing.
Thank you , that’s brilliant.
I have just started a landscape business with my nephew. He does all the hardscaping and I am in the process of building a lawn care (soft landscaping) side of the business. This will the business have a bit of financial consistency. Where as, the hardscaping can be more inconsistent by the nature of the job. Having 60 or 70 lawn care clients will generate work for the hardscaping side of the business! Fingers crossed, anyway! Fortunately, my background is door to door sales so I will be doing exactly what you are talking about in this video. If you are ever in Birmingham, let me know and you can come an knock doors with me! I will show you how to gain customers through cold calling at peoples homes! Let me know if you have any questions about door to door sales, mate. I would be more than happy to help you. Cold calling is not as hard as it sounds, mate. Thanks for the honesty, mate.
Thank you , appreciate your support.
What advice would you give to someone who plans to start in 2025, solo, but wants to keep some hours in their current job incase things bomb? Thanks. Also, to keep initial expenses down I’m unsure whether I should get a trailer or a van? A trailer would be a pain in the arse, but a van is an extra expense, especially if things don’t work out. :(
Keep it simple.
Turnover is Vanity. Profit is Sanity ❤
1. Depends on area. 2. Type of clients and travelling. 3. Experience. 4. How hard you work or effective/efficient. 5. Overhead costs. 6. Variable costs. 7. Tax liabilities. 8. Living costs ie your own demographic house price /mortgage costs. 9. Hours worked per day ie 6 or 10. Many earn alot but many waste money too. 11. Quoting time, onsite and emailing quotations, pricing time unearned for materials. Deliveries etc. Lots too it. Plus administration /organising.
Thanks for sharing!
That's no mate rob😂 well done for walking
Thanks.
Interesting video as usual. I'm currently in the market for a backpack leaf blower. I'm a big Husqvarna fan but my budget doesn't stretch enough for a Husqvarna 570BTS. Hence, I'm considering the Stihl BR600. Any issues with the 4-mix engine since you've had it ?
I sold it, my work didn’t warrant it. I use hand held blowers . Can fault the power and efficiency.
Just finishing up my second year, my brainwave about a month ago was to buy bulbs wholesale and sell them to clients for a decent mark up I made about £300 extra just on this alone and turned a potential skint winter into a comfortable one. I'm planning on tripling down on this next year with summer flowering and spring flowering bulbs Maybe I'll actually hit my targets next year from this, I'll let you know
Brilliant idea, good luck. Let me know how you get on.👍🏻
Brilliant as always Rob
Thank you Wayne. Always appreciate your support. 👍🏻
You are most welcome Rob my good man
