Great video Rob. I’ve been going successfully for 18 years. Never advertised. Always 99.5% fully booked. But I saw your post a few months ago re new / better customers and that started my grey matter going. Your tip re photos before you quote…! Great advice. I took that on board. We managed to replace old poor profitable business with good business on your advice. We condensed our area we work in ie we don’t go to Lancaster anymore due to traffic…. On your advice. Making us more successful in a diminished area of work. So we’re defo going to give this Facebook tip a try….! Why wouldn’t we. Cheers Rob. I’ll let you know how we get on. Thanks dave
Great advice for budding gardener’s starting out on their own........i dont do Facebook and when i stated out it didnt exist so i had adds in local news agents , local papers and the yellow pages also the Thompson local , its a different world now with online and social media advertising, i haven advertised since starting out all those years ago , mines all recommendation and word of mouth, but that doesn't always work out because what's ok for one customer isn't always ok for a new one ie you get one season wonders not because of the quality of work but mainly the money side there's always some one cheaper anyway ill stop rambling on all the best , Dave in Surrey
One thing that I would add, if you get messages on FB, always ask the potential customer for a photo of the garden (fence in my case), it put's the ball in their court. 9 times out of 10, if they go to the trouble of sending you a photo, you know they are serious about getting quotes. The people that won't bother to send a photo ARE the time wasters, you can be sure of that. FB is usually the place where BUSY FOOLS hang out low balling the requests that homeowners put on "any recommendations" type posts. I never respond to any of these types of requests on FB.
Spot on, was looking for a gardener only the other week so I put an ad on FB for gardeners to contact me if interested, not looking for recommendations. The local fuckwits soon replied with guess what recommendations!!!!
I have just started my gardening business this year and considering the weather being all over the shop. It's gone really well. You sent me your posts of Facebook to Taylor and the amount of work that come in was crazy. Appreciate it Massively. Plus Facebook is we're all my work has come from
Hiya Rob, I’m only taking on jobs within 5 minutes drive of my home address in Blackburn. I find Facebook brilliant for this on local groups. In my area I find that when someone asks for a gardener there’s very little response, maybe only 2 or 3 recommendations. I’ll attend and quote and sell myself without dropping my price and 9 times out of 10 I get the work. On the other hand my hometown Bellingham in Cleveland I’ll see a post and about 25 responses will go on even if the person has said that they are on a budget and want cheap. Absolute cut throat there. I have a business Facebook page but stopped adding to it a few months ago now. Keep up the good advice on videos mate, always nice to watch on a Saturday morning with a brew. Richie
Similar story here. One post in a small town near me had 50 responses in less than 48hrs. Multiple saying that they'd 'beat any quote' some saying they'd do it for £15 p/h. Wild!
I must be on 30+ local groups Rob. But so is every other gardener etc. I place adverts most weeks. I've had one paying bite in about a year. So what works in your area may not work in other areas. But Facebook advertising is free. So no harm / cost in giving it a go. But personally I don't rate it at all. As for the weather...... Aaarrgh!
Great advice......IF all the local groups allow ads, my local groups all seem to have a zero tolerance policy on any ads. I think you're very lucky tbh. Or maybe it's just things are very different down south.
Great vids rob. They couldn’t be more true for being a uk gardener, keep em coming. How’s the stihl lawnmower coping with al the wet grass? Thinking of getting one to add to the fleet. Cheers
Do you join groups that aren't necessarily business related groups? I've found that the regular 'hub' groups seem to have rules against advertising now. I'm about to branch out and widen my net a bit, so hopefully that should open myself up to a lot more potential customers
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices it’s going well been on it for just over a week and have had 4 new customers. “One off jobs” 2 big jobs as well I’ve taken some ideas from your page. Look forward to more videos thanks again and keep up the great work 👍

All the best Spike. This weather is horrible.

Oh no. You troll people too. And wish happy birthday to people you don't know. Its great!!
That's for rate my plate
Yeah Rob works for me every time I post in local site 2 to 3 jobs. 👍

How’s the stihl lawnmower coping with al the wet grass? Thinking of getting one to add to the fleet. Cheers
The stihl is great at collecting in the wet grass however the quality of cut on tall wet grass isn’t great.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices thanks for the reply Rob. Brilliant vids
Another good video rob all my work comes from Facebook
Pleased to hear that.👍🏻

I join lots of groups. Groups that allow advertising, it’s usually restricted to once a week. Good luck.
The local groups round our way get so narky when people put company adds up
Sorry to hear that.
Your a star 🌟
Thank you . 🙏
Been gardening for 14years and have only just got onto social media 🤦♂️
You know what they say better late than never 👍
Welcome aboard, I hope it’s working well for you .
@@lpatterson5005 It sure is! still trying to find better ways to advertise. Is anyone on Checkatrade? And is it worth it?

your obviously using it correctly rob 👍😊
Thanks Geordie, hope you’re doing okay. This weather is so frustrating. 👍🏻
are you doing saltex this year
No, I did enjoy last year. It’s an expensive couple of days once you factor in lost work days.
Certain groups remove you as soon as you place an add 😢
Coz they're gay
Most areas have a normal community area page and then a separate one for advertising business or selling etc
Certain groups don’t allow business promotion. Find ones that do. It’s usually restricted to one post every seven days.
All the best.
Demographics is the key
Isn't that just for paid ads please?
I find that you need to select the right groups or your wasting your time. 🕰️ 👍🏻
