    Hi John.
I have been watching your videos over the past few months and this has literally been like counselling for me! I would just like to say a big thank you for all your advice help towards running a business. I have been a skilled gardener for over 20 years now and self employed the whole time. For 8 years I have had my own business but always struggled with the money side of gardening. I have been young and stupid, made a few mistakes and even been made a mug of or ripped off at the worst of times which has had a big impact on my confidence. It is very good of you to take the time to share your tips. We charge what we charge because we are running a business/not a charity and shouldn’t be made to feel guilty! Now I won’t take s**t off any customer nor be dictated to. I had a user phone me again this year to cut her hedges (job I never wanted) doubled the price to what it was actually worth and she put the phone down on me, no loss of mine! Winner! 😂 Customers do not own us! Having said that it is nice to be in position to pick and choose and filter out the crap. I can now say 100% of my customers are wonderful.
Thanks again. I will stay tuned to your channel.
    All the best! Respect!

I remember doing a Kitchen for a customer which costed £20000 pounds. Her friend also wanted a Kitchen too. But She didn't wanted to pay £20000 for her Kitchen even tho she lived in the same street and had same size Kitchen. She wanted one for £10000. So the kitchen gets delivered and we turned up to do the kitchen and she said "why have i got a different work top too my friend " i said " your friend has a granite work top and that why it cost that much. I did tell this when you loaded the kitchen . Thats why you have a different work top" . She kicked off . We walked off the job before we even started to it
There lot of programmes on tv about bad tradesman. But not enough about bad costumers

Hi Rob, Thanks for all the videos you make. I'm new to gardening - since June 2023 - and your videos have been invaluable in helping me get started.
I did my PA1 & 6 this year, plus the spraying near water add-on. Cost me £500. All I've done is add a £5 extra to my hourly rate (i know - I should charge per job but am still doing hourly atm). Please can you consider doing a video discussing the PA course? Like why its important/essential to get our "tickets" or not? Plus how much to charge for these specialised courses?
Don't worry if not - I know its still busy :)

I’ve been to plenty of quotes where you have to go through the motions knowing you won’t get the job or don’t want it just to look professional. Some of the worst are people with plenty of money asking for you to to charge £27 instead of £30 for a lawn cut or the ones who say I can do the lawn myself or it’s only weeding or it’s only this fucking huge hedge I’ve never done myself it won’t take you that long!. In one ear out the other you choose the jobs no matter what if you’re not happy when you meet them then it’s a case of be polite and get through the now ten minutes of your time that would normally be an hour of walking around with someone you get along with and want as a client.

      Absolutely mad response.
Don't have our principles? Of course I suppose you've never had a bad experience with customers who were "not foreigners". Maybe the customer had had a bad day. Maybe they were struggling to make ends meet and their wife had arranged something he couldn't afford. Maybe like all of us life had kicked him in the balls one too many times and he just didn't know how best to deal with the situation. Maybe it wasn't anything personal to the guy who came to clear the weeds. Maybe people are just people and we all make mistakes, have arguments, get the wrong end of the stick or annoy others. But that's because we are people. Fallable people. All struggling. All trying our best. I'm sure that couple love their children, their parents, their friends. Don't want to be hungry or cold. Try their best, just like you.
Spend time with people who have different backgrounds to you and learn about their lives and you'll find we're all very similar.

Lawnmowers good to go, strimmers locked and loaded, leaf blower raring to go - and she comes to the door and says, ''i've had a think and it's too much for me to pay''. Bearing in mind this was a full mornings work. Not only did I not get paid for that mornings work, I also lost money in that I had to pay my pal. Then there was a fencing job we were scheduled to do. Bought all the materials et al, and the day before I am due to start I received a phonecall from the grandson, telling me he's going to do it instead. Honestly I could go on, but it's Friday and I am going to have a lie down :-)

@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices why should we starve? was she growing crops in this driveway? or was she lazily using chemical (as opposed to mechanical) means??
Also, you say you already mixed the weedkiller up, then left the job cos a man and woman were having a domestic?? i thought it was expensive stuff?? didn't it cost you money to dispose of properly etc....?
