@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices hi further to my comments and experience do you think that the way some people treat you is tanamount to bullying or they like to control people and what people want or expect for the money is sometimes impossible and they just don't have a clue many time I have turned up to a 'garden' only to find an over grown jungle festooned with cat shit, and some of these people are to lardy arse to do it but expect someone else to do it.

I agree with your response, as there are too many happy to expect far more than they would ever pay for. Out of interest, though, what did your customer want to do with his green bin? It serves one purpose and one purpose only: garden waste. Why on earth would you want to have a spotless green bin used for nothing at all? Bonkers!
Don’t blame you. I’m a builder and some customers think they can walk all over me…I’m getting better at standing my ground and your video will help me be more assertive to the rude customers!

Hi mate, just stumbled on your channel for the first time yesterday and I’ve subscribed. A lot of your videos seem very relatable to some of my own experience. This week I went to the second cut for a lady and she couldn’t grasp why weeding the boarders and trimming the hedges back wasn’t included in a £15 mow, blow and go lawn visit. I sometimes wonder if I need to manage expectations better, but then on the other hand I’d just like to think that when you agree a price for lawn mowing visit with somebody they realise that doesn’t mean a full garden renovation. Enjoying the channel anyway, keep it up!
Hey Rob, as usual I agree with you 100% on this issue mate. HI been watching you for a few weeks now I love your videos and you did the right thing with the bin customer I used to do grass cutting land scraping / maintaining gardens for 35 years no retired through health condition so I no what your going through thanks
I’ve found over many years that the more you give the more they expect for nothing then moan when they don’t get their way, but the previous trade that fixed something for them & was abrupt & to the point & expected payment on the day was a fantastic guy. Happens all the time
Hi Rob You did the right thing … what staggers me is that he was too tight to pay for the green bin subscription ( it’s £40/ year where I live). Better off without that type of client 👊.
I totally get this, Years ago as a builder I would give detailed estimates of quotes outlining the work and the process (probably giving too much information), most customers were great and stuck to the contract while others wanted more or, as another viewer has pointed out, the old "While your here can you just..." phrase was pulled out. In all cases I would whip out the estimating pad and start pricing up, 99.9% of those 'enquiries' ended there at just that. Some years later and I moved into Gardening and landscaping and my best 'liberty taker' was a customer who wanted to pay me in postage stamps, needless to say, I stepped away from that job leaving it open to someone else who might want to be paid under a feudal system.
Just watched you on TV Rob. - Don’t stress a second longer over it - We absolutely agree with what you did and it seems we’re in good company - once the mutual respect goes out of the window, there’s nothing to consider … Marie& David, IOM Grassbusters
Hi Rob, long time subscriber of the channel here, it is very easy for the tone to be off on a text and possibly they just wanted the bin emptying up the back again like before but they might not have known how to say. It is easy for lots to get lost in translation with a text so next time take a deep breath and call them if there is something iffy in a message just to check. It may not be the intention. But yes, you know the customer better than any of us and if they are still being disrespectful, get them tae f**k, hope they are easily replaced! all the best. ps do some videos on how to get a nice edge please
Hi Rob, Personally speaking you did the right thing, I did the same today, some customers can show disrespect.. Like you they ate gone, only to be replaced by hopefully better ones.. Good video😊
Hi Rob You did right there some customers always look for a bit extra . You have to draw a line somewhere. For years I pushed a mounted M3 cast iron no drive had to have a knee replacement 7 years ago... Good luck with the Honda cable. I always use you tube with any problem. Can save a lot on dealer labour costs. Yes everything is growing fast now... Chris.
Some of my customers were vile to me , there's no reason for it there just really nasty in some cases .Me and my friends in the trade have the same thing with our customers .It helps to hear your experiences ,it helps me to know its not just me who this happens to .I have bined customers in the past too .
Hi Rob enjoyed video. I had a customer, that when the wheely bin was full , expected me to wheel it down the gravel drive to be collected. I did this no problem , but then it started , the dust bin , the recycling bin , collect them an put them back. The Gravel drive was over 50m long. This Customer was half my age! Now X customer. Our daughter in law started a dog walking service in her local area. After a while people asked her “if she could just…” as if she was a friend, not running as a business. Also payments got sporadic (“can’t pay this, both but I’ll pay double next month). Lost some customers when she started a new year with a contract between her and customers, including payment method and terms. Still really busy but only works for people who regard her as someone who should be paid and on time for what she does.
hi rob dk garden maintainence now retired i found that keeping customers too long was not healthy they dont respect you and they have a heart attack when you put the price up ive had the brown bin thing done on many occasions i put it in a bag and let them get rid of it worked for me you did the right thing he was taking the piss all the best
My old man always said to me some people are born smart others not so but we all have the ability to be polite and manners don't cost anything. Some people that pay for services think they own you as a person rather than a service. You did the right thing and your conscience is clear. Onwards!
I have a regular general repairman. It's all about give and take. Sometimes I give him a bit extra as I appreciate what he does and he never takes the mick out of me.
Avoid text comminication it sucks if you get a crappy text call them. 95% of the time it will be resolved amicably by a phone call. I've had customers spit fire by email but on the phone it's like a different person. Remember message communication is just pressing buttons on a machine. A voice call is direct with a human being.
Rob you have highlighted 2 services on the issue , I also do what you do , stihl mowers are mulching grass clippings to dust bud great solution to the bin issue , you are right on the point as the client had a bit of a mixup with information , shame to loose a long term but it is what it is mow… on
You were right Rob, I would have acted the same, haven't had a situation yet like that fortunately but have got rid of customers for other reasons like cancelling me because the grass hasn't grown much, I then return in another 2 weeks to find the grass is out of control.
Had a similar thing a few years ago with an elderly customer before online payments and used to collect on Friday evening. Im always freindly and happy to open a difficult jar or put her bins out. She had become a bit more difficult and i was beginning to tire with her. She complained it was raining when I cleaned her windows (moderately, they kniw the score). After she had her rant i simply took my money turned round and walked to my van not uttering a single word, she was still ranting as I drove off. I was laughing my head off. It's nice to dump unpleasant customers, and replace with nice freindly ones, they are out there.
Multiple texts to get paid is a red flag for me. They get replaced ASAP, .My counter argument when giving them notice is 'How long would you have continued with my business if you had to keep texting me to remind me to come and work? ' Usually followed by a silent response.
Hi rob mate . You done right there . Getting rid was right thing to do if people treat us as slaves they can think again better customers round the corner .Take care see you soon
I have many stories like that, I won't type any out here, but yeah, been there. All those people are in the past now. I learned after maybe 4 or 5 years at this game, customers have NO loyalty, no matter how nice and friendly they seem, and however long you've been doing a great job for them, it matters not.
Good for you , if he didn't pay for the bin service he should have made it clear to you, and it was his responsibility to make alternative arrangements, Prior to loosing my HGV licence following a heart attack i was barred from 2 places for telling them I was a delivery driver not a mobile labourer, then I went into Kitchen fitting and found that the more money people had the worse they treat you.Just because they are better off than you doesn't make them better than you .
Nice one Rob. I think I had a narrow escape this week. I’d been round to see a potential new customer to look at the garden. I left things saying I’d phone with a date I could start. So anyway she phoned me a few days later, accusing me of not turning up, said several things that we’re questioning my integrity and ethics and to top it off said “ well all you do is cut grass” !! Unfortunately she’d confused the date and time I’d originally gone to quote on the garden as the start date of the work. I’m glad I’m not working for her even though I sadly can see someone taking advantage. She wouldn’t listen to a word I tried to say and just let rip. Final comment, the garden needs a heck more doing to it than just a grass cut.
You are 100% right. I used to do the grounds for a luxury retirement complex managed by a residents committee. A nice site to work and lots of nice cups of coffe slices of cake and prompt payment. I would occasionally get asked to do the odd favour for some in thier small private gardens eg could you put a new washing line spike in or pull out the odd dead shrub. Usually i would do these for free provided it was never a regular ask and they offered to pay , asked nicely and the job took no more than 15 mins. Out the blue i received a text to say that they had all decided that the beds could do with a feed and multch and had ordered 20 bags of composted manuare . These were apparently paid for and could i collect them from the garden centre ( 10 mins drive from were i live) and bring them for my next visit. Now whilst i used to drive a short wheel base mercedes sprinter this van was always full with tools and mowers so no room whatsoever for 20 bags of compost. Further whilst i live close to the garden centre actually getting to it in time for the restrictive opening hours would have meant ree organising my schedule and loading the trailer. What anoyed me the most was that for orders over £100 the garden centre offered a subsidsed delivery service for an extra £15 ! Neeless to say i declined to collect the compost and pointed out that i felt they were taking my goodwill for granted.
Well done mate ,this is happening throughout our country as a nation we are compared to others quite forgiving and generous that’s why our generosity is being taken for granted by people who wouldn’t give you the time of day ,sorry to be a bit political but knowing when the wee wee is being taken it’s time to toughen up ,all the best rob don’t let the p takers get you
I would of done exactly the same Rob. There was no need for him to send a text like that. The older I get, the less tolerant I am😅. Then i have to check myself to think "is it me?🤔" but same as you. People keep telling me we have a good name and alot of people seem to appreciate what we do. So when you get a customer like that it's 'bye 👋. Move on. Cheers Rob. Love your videos👍🏻
Don't blame you on that customer totally agree with you don't have to much trouble doing the cable on your Honda keep the videos rolling also had enough of this rain flooded down south kind regards
I think you're spot on, don't accept getting talked down to. In a perfect world you'd have had that conversation with them explaining that the tone was disrespectful, if they saw the error of their ways then all good. People do need to be told to check themselves sometimes. We all do.
Well done, I have had to do this in my garage business a few times over the last 20 years, never let anyone take advantage or take the pi$$, not worth getting upset over it. As you said there are better customers out there. Our gardener Simon is a wonderful guy, hard work and does what needs doing without question, he meekly said last month I am sorry but I am going to have to increase my charges by £5.00, i said quite right too, as you do a great job. Just treat folks like you want to be treated like, simple.
Funny, I do a bit of maintenance in Norfolk and am definitely undercharging as they can’t get people here. The more I put myself out for regular customers the more they give me little jobs that you feel like you can’t charge for. As soon as you price a job properly they get right put out……. and they’re rich along the coast here. Nothing tighter than a well off customer!
@@maxngm8590 I’m sure that the wealthy customers even though they can afford to pay more want to pay as little as possible just to keep you in your place.

All the best from Wales Idwal
Hi Rob
You did the right thing … what staggers me is that he was too tight to pay for the green bin subscription ( it’s £40/ year where I live).
Thank you for sharing your experience.
If it was Penny blacks might have worth your while 😂
Just watched you on TV Rob. - Don’t stress a second longer over it - We absolutely agree with what you did and it seems we’re in good company - once the mutual respect goes out of the window, there’s nothing to consider …

💯 with you Rob. Sometimes you have to stand by your principles even if it means losing the odd customer. His loss!
Hi Rob,
Personally speaking you did the right thing,
I did the same today, some customers can show disrespect..
Like you they ate gone, only to be replaced by hopefully better ones..
Good video😊
As a self employed decorator I've lost count the amount of tossers I've had to deal with. I'm almost at the point of chucking it in tbh!
Sorry to hear that. People can be so bad. All the best.
Hi Rob
You did right there some customers always look for a bit extra . You have to draw a line somewhere.
For years
I pushed a mounted M3 cast iron no drive had to have a knee replacement 7 years ago...
Garry Solihull 2CG
Thank you Gary, appreciate your support. All the best.
That’s what happens when you work in Solihull hey
Not at all, most customers are respectful. But they only get one chance!
Hi Rob.
Yep, agreed mate. Let these people take an inch and they take a mile.
Thank you .
Well done mate, we don’t need ignorant people customers or not, all the best 🍻👍👍👍
hi rob dk garden maintainence now retired i found that keeping customers too long was not healthy they dont respect you and they have a heart attack when you put the price up ive had the brown bin thing done on many occasions i put it in a bag and let them get rid of it worked for me you did the right thing he was taking the piss all the best
My old man always said to me some people are born smart others not so but we all have the ability to be polite and manners don't cost anything. Some people that pay for services think they own you as a person rather than a service. You did the right thing and your conscience is clear. Onwards!
Good for you. Some people are disrespectful and ungrateful by nature. You don’t deserve such treatment. Their loss.
Thank you . 🙏
I have a regular general repairman. It's all about give and take. Sometimes I give him a bit extra as I appreciate what he does and he never takes the mick out of me.
Nope. You where 💯 right. Took me a long time to get a bit tougher with customers.
We need to
👍👍Stick with your principals young man👍👍
Thank you 🙏
Yep, you did right. The nicer you are the more people will put on you. Kind people need to learn to say no and not feel bad about it.
Thank you 🙏
You're supplying a service so respect both ways is needed and as soon as it's gone it's best to move on
Avoid text comminication it sucks if you get a crappy text call them. 95% of the time it will be resolved amicably by a phone call. I've had customers spit fire by email but on the phone it's like a different person. Remember message communication is just pressing buttons on a machine. A voice call is direct with a human being.
Love it, Rob. I’ve just got rid of 2 today for the same reason taking the piss.
Usually followed by a silent response.
Wise words.👍🏻
Hi rob mate . You done right there . Getting rid was right thing to do if people treat us as slaves they can think again better customers round the corner .Take care see you soon
I have many stories like that, I won't type any out here, but yeah, been there. All those people are in the past now. I learned after maybe 4 or 5 years at this game, customers have NO loyalty, no matter how nice and friendly they seem, and however long you've been doing a great job for them, it matters not.
Good for you , if he didn't pay for the bin service he should have made it clear to you, and it was his responsibility to make alternative arrangements,
Prior to loosing my HGV licence following a heart attack i was barred from 2 places for telling them I was a delivery driver not a mobile labourer, then I went into Kitchen fitting and found that the more money people had the worse they treat you.Just because they are better off than you doesn't make them better than you .
Well done mate ,this is happening throughout our country as a nation we are compared to others quite forgiving and generous that’s why our generosity is being taken for granted by people who wouldn’t give you the time of day ,sorry to be a bit political but knowing when the wee wee is being taken it’s time to toughen up ,all the best rob don’t let the p takers get you
I agree with you. Thank you 🙏
I would of done exactly the same Rob.
Brilliant, thank you Dave.👍🏻
Don't blame you on that customer totally agree with you don't have to much trouble doing the cable on your Honda keep the videos rolling also had enough of this rain flooded down south kind regards
I think you're spot on, don't accept getting talked down to. In a perfect world you'd have had that conversation with them explaining that the tone was disrespectful, if they saw the error of their ways then all good. People do need to be told to check themselves sometimes. We all do.
What a right fuss! It's like a telling off! don't blame you at all, get out of there!
Well done👏😀
I fully agree with you 💯. Don't ever let anyone take the piss out of you. I used to be too soft with people
Thank you 🙏
Well done, I have had to do this in my garage business a few times over the last 20 years, never let anyone take advantage or take the pi$$, not worth getting upset over it.
Brilliant, thank you for sharing your thoughts.👍🏻
I'm a gardener in Norfolk totally agree with you respect is everything
Funny, I do a bit of maintenance in Norfolk and am definitely undercharging as they can’t get people here. The more I put myself out for regular customers the more they give me little jobs that you feel like you can’t charge for. As soon as you price a job properly they get right put out……. and they’re rich along the coast here. Nothing tighter than a well off customer!
I cover norfolk too
@@maxngm8590 I’m sure that the wealthy customers even though they can afford to pay more want to pay as little as possible just to keep you in your place.
You did what I would do in that situation, sounds like he's penny pinching not getting the green waste bin.
