Perfect scene
RIP Bernard Hill. He goes to his fathers, in whose mighty company he shall not feel ashamed.
In the book, Sam enters the Crack of Doom and sees that the Vial of Galadriel no longer has any light. That was the scariest part of the book for me. The knowledge that this was Sauron's home turf and absolutely nothing could help the heroes here, even from afar. The score captures that fear and the madness of the Ring perfectly.
I personally loved Howard Shores opening score to the show. It gave me chills first hearing it. Going in to watching the first season of Rings of Power, I didn't know that Shore was scoring the theme. When I first heard it, I had to look it up because it felt so much like his style. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out it was Shore!!
Man, what a shame you aren’t able to get the full video up here. Good on you for continuing to fight the good fight, thanks for your work getting this one up!
Doesn't matter how many times I've watched to it, this one always makes the hairs on the back of my neck go up. :D
Sad that you've been having issues with copyright. It's unfortunate because your videos are really well put together. I hope the future is kinder to you.
I had just found your channel last week and I gotta say as a fantasy lover and lover of music your channel has been a miracle
Thanks, you're welcome!
As usual, the featured sample notations are not necessarily identical to the relevant music in the tracks. They exist to give a visual cue for the themes, not to be taken literally for every iteration of the theme. It's regrettable that it has come to this, but you know what? Perhaps it's time to embrace change, and see what it brings. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for these collection of videos analysing the entire trilogy's score. Really appreciate the time and effort!
This is might be the best LOTR soundtrack piece behind Lighting of the Beacons. It contains the epic fulfillment of two of the most iconic themes from the soundtrack.
4:55 was the most epic sound I’d heard as a child ❤
The whole score is incredible and fits the movie perfectly but this was my favorite piece. Those sus 4/add 11 sounds over the basic 1-4-5 is really nice. But over the farewell scene it was so emotional. In the hero's journey when they return home they find they cannot go back to the same life because they have transformed. Or they complete the quest but are killed. This was an amazing combination of both and brilliant symbolism for Frodo's death without a tragic death scene. This mythology is so deep. It was too much to take in the first time but I bought the score and the second I heard this theme it stood out. Rewatching the movie later it hit much harder.
Wow such a great video! Thanks for sharing your musical knowledge with us
Elbereth! Elbereth!
hey! what happend to the dune 2 video? was about to study the material but was suddenly gone from your channel? was it taken down? <3
Yes T_T

Thank you for this terrific analysis. I have a greater awareness of the themes now. Though I was looking forward to an analysis of the Bene Gesserit chant in the Song the Sisters track, which was incorporated in the scene where Lady Fenring was seducing Feyd Rautha. I wonder if that relates to other themes as well.
As shown at 42:09, the theme that plays during the seduction is Feyd-Rautha's theme, in a specifically Bene Gesserit orchestration (harp, whispers, light percussion). Since the more pronounced chant heard on the Sketchbook album (sounds a bit like kee-ya-sa-dre) doesn't appear in the movie I didn't include it, but there's certainly a lot of interesting and experimental material on there that would've been cool to see used.
I wish we had more "emperor", that theme was awesome.
Well, I guess it's not impossible we'll get more of it in Dune: Messiah...
As a big fan of your LOTR OST analysis videos, I was so pleasantly surprised to see you tackling the Dune OST! It feels so satisfactory to see each of the leitmotifs I have identified from Zimmer's work explained in a professional way.
LISAN AL-GAIB!
02:14 did I feel some Gondor in Decline here?
Thank you so much for this analysis! I have been wondering about the use of these themes at certain points of the films, and this video really helped experience the film score on another level!
SO much of this passes right over my (non-musical) head, but it's astonishing to me how complex the scoring of a film can be and how many potentially hidden (and often ambiguous) interpretations can be found in the Dune score in particular. It's almost like the score matches the symbolic richness of Dunes visual themes (albeit often in ambiguous, contrapuntal ways)...
Thanks ! I had trouble discriminating the different themes and naming them. Now it's clear.
Fantastic analysis! Keep these videos going
Under exposed Hugh quality channel discovered, commencing distribution among friends.
Much obliged!
Superb analysis, glad you got it uploaded! I haven’t seen Dune, but watching your video makes me interested now to say the least
Wow, then I guess i spoiled almost all of it for you XD
@@monoverantus haha I’ve been slowly getting spoiled since the first one came out but I think I’d still enjoy it
@@melodyworkshop I was spoiled years ago by reading the books, but I still thoroughly enjoyed both movies 😁
Terrific analysis! I love your description as this score as "tactile". You can hear the grain of the wind-swept sand. Great work! I think the awe/wonder chords are my favorite elements in this music. Especially paired with the cool guitar solo on the sketch album in "Shortening of the way". Bravo!
Thank you, and the same to you! It's interesting, I tend to concern myself mostly with the music that actually ends up in the final product, but the Sketchbook has some real outstanding experimental pieces.
@@monoverantus Agreed. my custom edit of the score actually includes various moments from the sketchbook inserted into the film cues. I inserted that guitar solo into the "still suits" cue and it worked out pretty well! th-cam.com/video/1zN8EfWlYhI/w-d-xo.html
RIP Bernard Hill
Thank you for putting together this video - great work !
You can also here Duke Leto's leitmotif right before the crescendo in "Only I will remain" . And it is not tragic there, it is triumphant. Probably for the first time. As if to signify he has succeeded through his son.
I like how you play the full audio of the film, not just the music. Because thats where film music lives! So cool
Indeed! In many of these scenes, I felt the dialogue was necessary to understand the purpose of the music.
Fuck yeah!! Love this video. Great annotations to explain the importance of the themes. Thank you for validating my obsession with the soundtrack
did you use the PAL Version? That might be the Reason why the score is a halfstep up
You think the whole movie is sped up?
@@monoverantus yes. I noticed it with dvds in Germany. They are all played at an increased speed of 4%. I was like „okay why the f does this sound higher then in the soundtrack??“ I only noticed it because of my perfect pitch. Then I googled it and appearently, in pal regions, they speed up the movie to match the differing Framerate. I‘m not an expert in this sadly. Maybe google search „pal speed up“ I think it‘s best explained there
Thank you for making this! I loved being vindicated with all my head canons haha
Rest in peace, Bernard Hill, King of Rohan.
Rest in peace, Bernard Hill, King of Rohan.
In stillsuits, a voice plays the "fremen ostinato" while doing harmonics! Noticed this recently, really makes the score feel so much more organic.
That would be the Dune theme/Ostinato, but yes, it's a good example of throat singing (sygyt) unrelated to the Sardaukar.
@@monoverantus I think we got mixed up, I didn't mean a human voice I just mean an instrument (I don't know what it is lol) its sort of a xylophone sounding thing and it resonates with other notes which sounds amazing imo
@Paawandrums Hm, do you have timestamps? Because I'm listening over and over and I just don't hear it.
@@monoverantus Sorry, my bad. It’s actually in stillsuits at 1:55. Apologies
@@Paawandrums Well then, that solves it : )
Music is messages from the deep.
Power over music is power over all!
@@xen0bia love this 😂❤
